Look Book: Glittery Demi-Cut Crease Cat Eyes, Levels of Glitter, and More MAC Snow Ball

Look Book is a new MBB series, but I think of it as “a makeup playground.” It’s a place to try new looks, talk about techniques and products, and hopefully — hopefully — get inspired to try new things. 🙂

I have plans, my friend — makeup plans for the future — and they involve me continuing to wear glitter on my lids through my 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond. 🙂

Why?

Because I don’t believe that glittery makeup has to be relegated to just one or two decades along your makeup journey. I 100% believe that there are always ways to work a little sparkle into your step.

I think it helps to think of glitter as, not just something you completely splash all over your lids, but as an accent that you can incorporate into your look in levels, which is what I did in this glittery demi-cut crease with glittery cat eye liner and a glittery dot accent in the inner corner.

By the way, before we get into it, I just want let you know that I used some limited edition makeup kits (the Pigment and Glitter Kit in Pink, Lip Gloss Kit in Rose, and the Mascara Kit) from the MAC Snow Ball collection, which is out now.

I also used all three of the Snow Ball brush kits (Basic, Advanced and Mini).

In addition to those, I also sprinkled in some MAC permanent products, of course, and everything is listed at the bottom of the post. If you have any questions about anything — the kits, the permanent things, why I did something a certain way, whatever — holler at me in the comments, and I’ll drop my two cents.

OK, back to the glittery levels… Now, what do I mean by that? Well, I’m referring to looking at your use of glitter as if you’re slowly ramping up your makeup outfit/makeup look in stages by incorporating your choice of glittery accessories.

Level 1: The glittery cat eye liner

I started this look with shimmering coppery pink beige lids and basic black cat eye liner, which was kind of like my starting point, and then added my “level 1” glitter to the black liner.

I dipped a wet angled liner brush into pink glitter, then packed that on top of the black cat eye liner along my upper lash line. Next, after it dried, I cleaned off the brush, loaded it with black gel liner (the same liner I used to draw my cat eyes), and layered black liner on top of the pink glitter to temper it down.

I ? the end result. You get the glitter sort of peeking through the matte liner. 🙂 It’s very subtle but definitely there.

All of the glitter, girlfriend.

Level 2: The glittery demi-cut crease

OK, if you want to kick it up a notch, take it to level two — the glittery demi-cut crease (the line just above your crease). I call it a demi-cut crease because the cut crease only goes from the inner part of my eye to the halfway point of my lids, so it doesn’t go all the way across like a full cut crease. It’s a subtle flash of pink glitter that gets thinner as it moves inwards.

I think it’s a good way to add unexpected pizzazz to a look, and oh — if you have hooded eyes, cut creases are great because you’re basically drawing a crease and creating the illusion of a deeper-set eye.

Level 3: Glittery inner corner highlight

“Level 3” of this look is this kind of — I’ll admit it’s a little silly — gold glittery dot in the inner corner. It’s an unconventional way to handle traditional inner corner highlight, and I used a couple of glittery gold dot stickers from the MAC Snowball collection.

It’s costume-y, but it’s fun. Something to try if there’s a party, or if you’re just in the mood to try something new (which is why I did it).

The makeup I’m wearing…

That looks surprisingly wearable, as wearable as glitter eyes get at least. I think I will do something like this for NYE, at least the glitter on top of liner thing.

      Hey Ruchita (and kittehs!),

I 100% agree. I think Mingy would especially appreciate a glitter cut crease (don’t ask me how I know this).

Happy Friday! What are you guys up to this weekend? We’ll be prepping the house for Thanksgiving next week because we’ll be hosting.

I like it! I have worn full on glitter on my eyelids, but never as a cut crease. I really like that pink glitter shade and have been trying to avoid that kit since it first released. LOL! But I think I really want that particular shade of pink!

      Hi Christina,

The pink glitter from the kit is surprisingly wearable. The trick is to ground it with some other earthy or neutral color. A copper, brown, whatever strikes your fancy!

Hope you try this look sometime soon.

Happy Friday to ya! What are you up to this weekend?

      Hi Maritza,

Heck yeah! Wear whatever inspires you and makes you smile. That’s the only rule in my house. 🙂

      Happy Friday!

I love the coppery pink lid and would totally wear that. Your winged liner is perfection!! Love the bits of sparkle that shine through it.

I adore the look except for I would have removed the glitter from the eye lids to make more wearable and simply had worn it every day! I love it so much. Especially the red lips.
