MAC Me Over Because There’s Something Here for Everyone

August 10th, 2011 by Karen 57 Comments

mac me over

For my losing entry in the contest that eventually led to the upcoming MAC Me Over collection, I leaped into the sea from atop a giant rock in Oahu’s Waimea Bay while screaming, “MAC me over because I’m ready for a new adventure!” into a small waterproof video camera.

Actually…I was standing on an outcropping only about a foot off the water when I jumped. Oh, and I also flubbed my line. 🙂

I like to think of MAC’s fall release as the People’s Collection (raises fist!), but not because it was part of any underground revolutions. The collection’s imagery showcases dreamy before and after pics from the six men and women picked after last fall’s contest for the collection. In the contest, MAC fans submitted pictures and videos of themselves completing the phrase, “MAC me over because…”

From the submissions, MAC Creative Director James Gager picked the lucky winners. Pretty cool, yah?

The 51-piece collection is, in a word, MASSIVE! It launches August 25 here in North America and internationally this September with a bevy of brushes and limited edition and repromoted makeup for eyes, lips, face, cheeks and nails.

MAC divided the release into three sub-collections — Icelandic Cool (comprised of cool-toned shades), New Black (dark and bold colors) and MAC Basics (pink and nude shades hand-picked by MAC artists) — making it all fairly easy to navigate.

I swatched a few of what I thought were eye-catching items from each of the three sub-collections this morning. Holla at me if anything that gets you in the gut. 🙂

A flash from green to gray caught my eye right away. It was from the Hazy Day Eyeshadow. I also immediately noticed Take Root Cream Color Base, a reddish bronze with a hint of green. I still don’t have any idea what I’d do with it, but I bet it would look really pretty in a bronzy green smokey eye.

Thumbs up for cheesy vegetable pasta!

For the love of cats, that cheesy vegetable pasta recipe from Women’s Health turned out even better than I’d hoped! From start to finish, it took less than half an hour to make, and even El Hub thought it was delish (I did add a little bit of chicken to his…).

Other alterations I made to the recipe: I added two cloves of minced garlic after sauteing them in olive oil, sprinkled fresh chopped basil on top, and layered everything (pasta, ricotta cheese, veggies and then the basil), to turn it into an improv lasagna. 🙂

It’s a pretty flexible recipe, which is another one of the things I like about it. If you’re not into dairy, just omit the ricotta. If you have a big meat eater in the family, add some grilled chicken breast.

NOM!

Your hungry neighborhood pasta addict,

Karen

Somehow Moleskin and Outre eyeshadows remind me of Naked and Buck from the Urban Decay Naked Palette. However Moleskin is just a little bit too cool-toned to be an exact dupe for Naked.

I think I need that Social Light Lipglass, just because its pretty and hypnotizing me to spend more of my money on more lipgloss that I most certainly don’t need!

Kinda random, but did you know it also can double as a lip liner brush? I used it the other day to sharpen up the edges of Price Noir.

I kind of want Dark Diversion. I missed out on it last time. Buyer’s remorse? Most likely.

That pasta dish looks awesome! I’m a vegetarian, but I could easily omit the chicken and possibly add in some tuna. Of course, Rocky and Jazz would start a riot over who gets to lick the can.

omg — youre right. soft ochre + outre + ricepaper = awesome. and i like how it can work for fall/winter as well as spring/summer — depending on what you pair with it.

outre is the first thing that popped from this collection for me. i saw it and i drooled — its a really unique color!

furkiddos are doing great — LOL had a bit of a cold but is all better. thankfully Anja and Linus didnt pick me up.

the cutest thing has been going on lately though — Mojo (our 4 year old puppy) and LOL have been sleeping beside each other in a huge pet bed. its so adorable!

I think I will try the Avenue liner…it will be my very first fluid liner from MAC. Excited! I already have a basic black liner (from CARGO) and a brown liner (from HIP Loreal)…I am hoping I will like Avenue and that it is sort of a combo of black and brown, with a little gold thrown in…

As for Avenue, it’s FANTASTIC. I wore it yesterday and really like it a lot. It has a nice balance of brown/black, with the tiniest little flecks of gold. It’s pretty unique as far as Fluidlines go. I think you’ll really love it! If you don’t have it already, you might want to pick up the Sonia Kashuk Bent Liner Brush. It’s my favorite for Fluidline application. Here’s a link to a review:

      Hi Mia,

I wore it yesterday, and while I loved the texture (it’s super soft and almost feels like a cream), I think that if you have a similar sort of beigey frost highlighter you may not need it. On my skin I can see a hint of pink, which is kinda different, but I don’t know if it’s so unique that I’d buy five pans of it and stockpile the color, you know?

Let me know if you have any other questions!
