The MAC Girls Risk Taker Palette

Should you take a chance?

Hocus-pocus ?‍♀️ Powersurge! Presto change-o ?? Honeylust! Alakazam Satin Taupe and Woodwinked, too!

By the Power of Grayskull, I HAVE THE POWER. ?

If you know this incantation (and I do!), you’re probably a MAC gal or guy, and if you are, then it’s OK to freak out a little (go ahead, I’ll wait), because MAC just dropped three new MAC Girls Palettes into the permanent line. They also brought back the six they launched last year.

So yeah, now you can get them whenever you want. They’re $39.50 each and available online and at “select” MAC stores, which is MAC code for “better call your local counter to check first.”

This one is Risk Taker, and it riffs on some MAC permanent colors I’ve loved for years. Like, Bossing It looks a little like Woodwinked, Outfitted looks kinda like Honeylust, and Risky Business is like the more sparkly version of Satin Taupe. The whole thing spoke to my soul when I opened it for the first time, so of course I automatically assumed I’d have a good time with it.

And I did… Mostly.

AHHH!

Yup, still a MAC NC42.

I wore it for the first time yesterday, and I’ll start by saying that the shadows swatch beautifully. That’s for sure. They’re ridiculously, shockingly soft, and I can’t believe how easily they scoot across my skin, but handle the pans carefully, because an errant poke with a fingernail or brush is sure to cause a dent.

About the softness, though…it might be why I ran into some trouble with this palette.

Well, maybe not trouble. More like hurdles? — as in a whole bunch of tiny powder particles all over the place, a.k.a. fallout. ? As I swept my eyeshadow brushes across the pans, this happened…

Kinda messy, right? That’ll end up all over your face if you forget to tap off your brush.

The shimmers are also REALLY shiny. They push the boundaries of what I’m comfortable wearing on my lids. You probably couldn’t tell from across a room, but I feel like my lids look heavier and older when I wear them (although I recognize that I’m currently feeling a little touchy about my fine lines).

I’m wearing Free Ride (a matte rosy mauve) in my crease, Bossing it (a warm bronze) and Dangerously Elegant (a olive brown) on my lids, Totally Obsessed (a matte beige) on my brow bone, and Totally Fierce (a shimmery coral) in the inner corner.

For real, though, who’s gonna be THIS CLOSE to your eyeballs unless you’re making out with them? And in that case, they’ll probably have their eyes closed.

Anyway, my point is that the shimmers are borderline frosty, which could be an issue…depending on how you look at it.

So, I thought I’d fall instantly in love with this palette because of the color combo, and I do like how soft the shadows are, but I think this one will take a couple more looks to make a final call. I definitely like the colors enough to do that.

Pretty good wear time too. When I checked after I’d had it on for almost eight hours, it still looked fresh, so that’s a good thing. I just used it with the regular MAC Prep + Prime 24-Hour Extend Eye Base.

Those colors are super pretty but man, that’s a lot of fallout! I recently purchased one of the Flower Beauty eyeshadow palettes and I’m running into the same problem. I love the colors and the shadows are super pigmented and easy to blend, but there’s a ton of kickup.

I love the shades in this palette but it just looks like to much work with all that powder. I just can’t deal with it.

Do these irritate your eyes like some of those other Mac palettes? The color that looks like power surge liner looks perfect. I’d buy it just for that one color. But the mess. Hmmm.

Thankfully no irritation with this one!

Woooow!! Yeah I didn’t see that coming!! I actually had this product in my ‘cart’ but hadn’t pulled the trigger yet, and now I’m glad I haven’t! As beautiful as the colors are, I have all of the colors you say these remind you of, so this just gave me some good inspiration for how to organize my permanent shades! Thank you!
