What Would You Do if You Had Free Rein and Could Do Whatever You Want in Your Own Dream MAC Collaboration?

November 22nd, 2016 by Karen 21 Comments

My Dream MAC Collaboration

If I had free rein? — oh, my gosh, I don’t even know where I’d start.

I had a little taste of it once upon a time, a long time ago. I made my own Lipglass called Evolution Revolution, but if I could go back to that lab again, I’d go buck-freakin’-wild.

Oh, my gosh! Yeah, like, first of all, MAC has so many great things already, so I wouldn’t want to reinvent the wheel, but I’d take existing colors that I love and use all the time, and I’d try to utilize them in different ways.

For example, I would turn Soft Brown, Brun, Saddle, Cork and Club Eye Shadow into Paint Pots.

Ah! Cork as a Paint Pot!? Can you imagine!? I would die. Club as a Paint Pot?? I would f*cking die. Soft Brown as a Paint Pot!? OK, calm down, Karen…

OK, so I would do that for sure.

I would also turn Powersurge into a multiuse liquid. Now, I have no idea how MAC would do this, but I would love a liquid version of Powersurge that I could use as a liner or put on my brows or use on my lips.

Powersurge lips? — how cool would that be? I think that would be awesome.

My Dream MAC Collaboration

I’d also find a way to take the Extra Dimension formula — the powders, the bronzers, blushes and eyeshadows — and make some crazy-@ss neutrals with them. I would make a palette of neutral Extra Dimension Eye Shadows with all of the browns I’ve ever imagined — cool tones, warm tones, dark tones, light.

*drools*

Yeah, who gets excited about browns? This girl. 🙂

And that’s just to start! I’d also have some lip products, of course. Like, I would love to do my own ultimate pink MAC lipstick collection with nude pinks and bright pinks and everything in between, because you know I love pink lipstick.

I mean, would MAC let me do all of this in one fell swoop? Probably not, but in my dreams they would. It would be a huge, MASSIVE collection.

Tell me, my love — my MAC love — what would you do if you had free rein and could do whatever you want in your dream MAC collaboration?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I actually have this saved in a document, of exactly what I’d do…
Glaze lipsticks in a tan brown, shimmery champagne, and brighter coral/pink than Hot Tahiti, paintpots in more browns, and omg Club you’re right. Also a very taupe fluidline with no shimmer. Maybe some new sheertone blushes, those are my favorites.

Seriously, Club… I WOULD DIE. Been a minute since I’ve worn a Sheertone, which ones are your go-tos?

Blushbaby and breath of plum! They are so finely milled and smooth, I love them.

1 more Thing I would do if I were in charge at Mac the stickers on the bottoms of all the products would be colored like they are at urban decay. Think how much time you’d save if instead of opening or reading the text you could easily tell if you grabbed a coral or plum lipstick!

Oh man. I love the cat packaging. Mina’s definitely a makeup girl, I know she stole my Nars Pro Prime eyeshadow base!

I love the idea of more Paint Pots! And all the neutral shadows. ALL OF THEM! I’m partial to the bronzes, browns, champagnes…

Mina had great taste. 🙂 Tabs hasn’t stolen my NARS Pro Prime (yet). Now that it’s in print of course it’ll disappear, haha.

How are you feeling? Are you doing better? I hope so.

P.S. Picture this: a bronzy brown paint pot with subtle champagne pearl.

I found the Nars! It wasn’t Mina, I put it somewhere weird and shouldn’t have blamed her.

I’m feeling a lot better! Thanks for asking!

I would do a collection focused on actual, real, cool colors! Paint Pots in cool taupes and greys from light to dark; an Extra Dimension eyeshadow palette in white, greys, and black, cool taupes, cool beiges and browns, cool bright silvers, and blue-violets in both shimmery and matte finishes; blushes in lavender, cool plum, cool pink, and cool red, all with slightly satiny finishes; and lipsticks in purples from light to dark, blues, silvers, greys, and cool taupes. Eyeliners in cool browns, taupes, and greys; lipliners in cool beiges, taupes, and pinks, plus blue, navy, grey, and black. And skinfinishes in cool-leaning beiges and taupes — pale, medium, and deep. And make sure they’re all really high quality, because a lot of time deep blue eyeshadows and lipsticks don’t measure up to the usual quality in a formula. I am so, so, so tired of ‘cool’ collections that consist of a bunch of browns that are less warm than usual, combined with some pinks and warm purples!

I love you black-and-white kitty-cat print. I’d like a print based on stars in the night sky, in midnight blue + silver.

I’ve noticed that too about blue shadow, Fran! They can be hit or miss. I wore one today (the dark blue shade from the Chanel Architectonic palette) and I liked it a lot. Great intensity and the satin finish is perfection! I think you’d like that palette. It’s cray $$$ but it has beautiful grays and that oh-so-gorgeous denim blue.

I hope you and your son have a very happy Thanksgiving! 🙂

I think I’ll have to try this one, Karen! It is really pretty. My local Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus don’t have it for me to swatch, but I could order it online.

I’d either have to do something for pale people or some kind of modern gothic collection!

I can totally picture your collection, Karen. Your signature black liners, brown shadows, and pink lips. It makes me think of a slogan like “black is beautiful, brown is heaven, pink is sublime” (that’s probably co-opting one or two traditional self esteem slogans, but for those of us who think makeup is a form of self esteem, that’s a plus!!). Such a great look. I’d love it. I picture a glittery unicorn on at least one package. 🙂

It’s free “reign”, Karen. :p I’m nitpicky, anal retentive and a perfectionist, I would have a long post. But I’d be meticulous about quality, and have quite a few neutrals and mauves. They’d also be earthy tones.

I just made my own grammar mistake, lol. The colon after “perfectionist” should be a semi colon. I knew that but no one cares about semi colons anymore :p

Oooooooooo I would have glitter nail polishes in Neutral colours(because any nail polish chips so fast on me and glitter ones are better to camouflage that) and the eye palette would also be glittery I would basically have copied Mariah Carey’s collection and put other stuff in. Makeup brushes with glitter…I love glitter..

I love the paint pot idea! And as a fellow crazy cat lady I would love that lipstick. I think that you and MAC need to team up!

I love the idea of “club” paint pot!!
I guess if you wanted to get something kinda-sorta similar you could mix a paintpot, paint, or different cream shadow or mixing medium with “Blue-Brown” pigment. If you used a brown cream shadow it could tone the pigment down a little to look more like “club” shadow…
A paint pot would be easier though and so pretty!

SO. MANY. MULTICHROMES. Nail, eye and lip multichromes. BUTTLOADS.

Matte duochrome lipcolors. Rich multichrome nails and glossy multichrome eyeshadows. Liquid liners.

Matte multichrome packaging – all the colorshift with fewer fingerprint issues.

    I’m drooling.
