Four Steps to Fabulous Fall Matte Lips

Gah! I’m so excited about 1) sweater weather (anyone else totally over the heat?), and I can’t wait for all of the full-on pigmented matte lip colors for fall! I’m already building my army of berries, reds and roses…

If you’re all about rich, autumnal lips like I am, here are four application tips to help you get fabulous matte fall lips that look great all day long.

1. Step one: Get prepped

Prep your lips by applying your favorite moisturizing balm to remove any dryness. (I’m a fan of CeraVe Healing Ointment, myself.)

2. Step two: Soften those edges

With a finger, press a thin amount of your favorite liquid concealer all along the edges of your lips until your lip line kinda disappears into your skin. Then, wait a minute for the concealer to dry. Right now I’m loving Hourglass Veil Retouching Concealer (it’s what I’m wearing in these pics), but any good pigmented liquid concealer should do.

3. Step three: Set it and forget it

Load a tapered eye brush with a translucent setting powder, and lightly dust a layer on top of the concealer to set it.

4. Step four: Just add color

Apply your rich fall lip color either directly from the tube, or using a brush. Then, step back and admire your beautiful lips! 😊

I wish this had posted before I did my bold matte lip today because my edges are pretty harsh! I’ll definitely try these tricks next time.

      Hi Stephanie!

That happens all the time to me too. I’ll apply my bold matte lip color and the edges will look fine at the moment, but then hours later I’ll take a close look and big sections will look totally wonky, LOL! Oh well. At least we tried, right?

Anywho, I think these tips will help you; I’ve found the concealer/powder helps not only to blur your natural lip lines, but it also prevents the lipstick from migrating!

P.S. What color are you wearing today?

I wish I could attach a photo! I’m wearing Avenue from the Colour Pop Romance Moi Lip Vault. I hate that it tends to migrate at the corners because then it looks like I can’t apply straight. Looking forward to trying the tip because with wearing masks again having a good matte lip is key!

I love how Connor is always all in with the (literal) face painting! 🙂 It’s so adorable! Femme is stunning on you. I can’t complain about the heat since it’s so rare that we get hot weather, but 90+ and 99% humidity has been tough all week.

It’s a really pretty shade, Suzanne! I’m hoping to work up to wearing it with smokey eyes soon. 🙂

Thank you for these tips – I have a small upper lip and bold or bright lip colours migrate on me – I am going to try this tonight before I head out to do errands!!

Connor Claire is adorable – I love that you let her explore and create that is so nice for her to be able to do. Too often I think we curb creativity in children for our own reasons and creativity should be acknowledged and encouraged – in my humble opinion only of course.

      Hi Vita!

I hope these tips help you. The concealer really is a lifesaver for me on my bottom lip (the lipstick there LOVES to move around).

Thanks for saying those nice things about Connor. I tell her all the time that makeup washes off so she can just go crazy! It’s really interesting to me how kids are so bold with color and placement naturally. It’s good stuff!

Hope you’re having a great week so far.

Femme is a gorgeous cold r, it looks so good on you. I am SO looking forward to fall, it’s been such a weird summer here in Michigan. Super hot, tons of rain.

    I love Connor’s look.

I am surely not looking forward to sweater weather, but oh how I love these rich fall makeup colors.
Connor really is rocking that turquoise.
