How to Get a Natural Lash Curl

May 2nd, 2009 by Karen 49 Comments

Good morning, ladies! I hope your weekend got off to a good start. I’m not sure what I’ve got going on today, which is good in that it probably means there’s nothing I absolutely HAVE to get done.

For this post I’ve done a quick video (click here for the video) showing how I curl my eyelashes. I apologize for not putting up any videos lately, but I’ll get back into the habit again.

Enjoy your weekend! Let me know what you’re up to.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

On my eyes I’m wearing the Urban Decay Get Baked palette along with Clinique’s High Impact Curling Mascara. On my cheeks — NARS The Multiple Orgasm.

Love your new hair, girlfriend! I need to get the Shu curler but my eyes are really tiny. I don’t know if the whole curler would fit into the curve of my eyes or not 🙁

      Hi Dao,

I bet the mini version of the Shu Curler would work for you! It’s $17 at Sephora.

My lashes are normally naturally curly just every once in a while they like to go Asian and become stick straight and the curler is busted out of hiding. My mom always remarks my eyelash curler looks like a weapon. I have a Revlon one at the moment as I don’t use my curler that often to justify the Shu Uemura one.

    Good tips!

I use the Shu-U curlers too!
They really are the best.. and i heard that they come in a mini form?? I have to find out!
A fellow blogger suggests using a hairdryer to heat the wand slightly before curling to mae the curl last longer..works so well!!

I got the elf ones to review for my blog and they were really dreadful! Torture devices more than curlers.

    Looking great Karen!

      Hi Tali,

I’ve done that in the past but I try to avoid using heat on because it can damage hair… plus I’m clumsy so I’m bound to burn myself!

It does make it easier to curl, though…

      Hi Mansie,

I don’t replace it — I’ve read that you’re supposed to change the pads every so often but I rarely even do that.

    Karen, you look amazing!

Thanks for the tips. =) Sadly, my eyes are too flat/small for the Shu to fit comfortably (I pinch myself and don’t even get halfway up my lashes… Shiseido, Tarte and many others are like this too). If any other ladies are having the same trouble, I finally, finally, finally found a curler that works for me! It’s Koji’s “wide” curler (it has a 22mm diameter instead of the regular 18mm one). I got it at Marukai Living for $7, but you should be able to find it online or at other Japanese markets. Hope that helps someone!

My eyes are on the “flatter” side too. The Shu didn’t work for me (I tried for a long time), but the Shisheido is my HG.
