Tired of Your Lip Look? Try a Two-Toned Matte Lip Twist on Brights

Two-toned lips?I saw this really cool two-toned lip look on Pinterest the other day with a bright, glossy red on the upper lip and a fuchsia on the bottom.

So, so cool! (But totally impractical.)

Well…I guess if I walked around all day long with my mouth half open, LOL!

Imagine forgetting that you’re wearing it and accidentally smacking your lips together…

Oops! Hello, hot mess! 🙂

I wanted to try something similar, but more practical and wearable, yesterday, so I rutted around in my makeup drawer for ideas…

I thought that a creamy lipstick would migrate and move too much, but what about a bright long-wearing lippie like the Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipsticks? They’re super saturated liquid lipsticks with a matte finish, and they absolutely refuse to budge.

Ding-ding-ding! Winner, winner, chicken dinner! An idea started to form…

I applied the bright red shade, Raven, to my top lip with a lip brush, following it up (after Raven dried), and using a different lip brush (a clean one), with hot pink Ballet applied to my bottom lip.

What do ya think?

I know it’s not for everyone…but I think it’s pretty neat, especially if you’re feeling adventurous.

You could try a subtler version, keeping the red on your upper lip, but swapping the hot pink for a reddish coral like Hourglass Opaque Rouge Lipstick in Muse on the bottom…

The effect’s not quite as obvious, but if you look closely, you can see the two different shades.

Eh, it’s worth a try, right?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Happy hump day, fellow beauty lover!

Oh, have you heard about this? Becca is coming to Sephora stores (they’ve been available online at sephora.com, but now they’ll also be in stores).

Cat lady says SWEET! I hope the one by my house gets on board soon… I want to spend some quality time with the new Ultimate Eye Color Quads ($40 each).

Nice! I’d try it, but nothing can stop me from rubbing my lips together 🙁

I love two toned lips and would totally wear this out. It kinda freaks my husband out though. Men – they are so weird LOL!

They’re so funny! If only they knew all of the effort it took to get a no-makeup look!

That is so cute! I always liked the two-toned look when I saw it in magazines, but it actually works in real life too 🙂

Thanks! The trick, I think, is to remember not to rub your lips together too much.

I don’t think I’d wear my two tones full-on color blocked, but I think I would rock it if I smacked my lips together and sort of blended, like in this tutorial: http://thebeautydepartment.com/2012/06/trending-3/

I think that’d be really pretty!

I have wanted to try the two-tone lip look for such a long time! I love the look with brights like hot pink and orange, and I love it with other shades like fuchsia and purple.

Possibly one of my all time favourite beauty looks! I just need to be brave enough to try it!

    Looks great on you Karen!

Oh, I saw that lip look on Pinterest too and looooved it! Wish I was brave enough to try it out in public! Ha ha 🙂 I think it would be really pretty too with some of the darker fall lip shades – maybe I’ll experiment…

My friend and I were in the Santa Monica Third Street Promenade Sephora store and saw Becca there…very exciting!!

The two-toned lip looks great on you, Karen! I gave my first colour-blocked lip look a try this past summer, but I have to say — I’m really liking the different spin matte finishes give to the lip.

The formulas I had picked had a fairly creamy finish (http://thenotice.net/2012/05/lb-summer-brights/), so I might just have to give the look another go with mattes 😉

Definitely try the mattes! They’re so fun. 🙂
