The 5 Out of 5 Hearts Club: Mallywood Smoky Mama! Mascara

A hidden gem

The “5 Out of 5 Hearts Club” ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ is a new series where you’ll find out about limited edition beauty products that are all that and a bag of baked Cheetos! — a.k.a. perfection in every single way.

No shame moment: I’m one of those creepers who walks around unabashedly staring at strangers’ lashes without any qualms whatsoever. At times, it’s been so intense that people have stopped me to ask, “Do I know you?” and I’m like, “Nah, I’m just admiring your lashes like a weirdo. Don’t mind me!”

If I saw someone wearing this mascara, I’d pull them aside (after popping my eyes back into their sockets) and inquire about the magic happening on their fringe, because it’s good — like, “Gee, where did this dark horse come from, and why isn’t it a cult favorite yet?” good.

“Apply on the top lashline as usual (you can define every lash with this wand!). Then it gets fun! As you apply to your bottom lashes, gently press the wand softly from side to side and barely touch the skin beneath them! Voila! No walk of shame necessary!”

My lashes refuse to hold a lash curl (they’re rebellious that way, I guess), and they’re short, and I have a big ol’ gap in my right eye from an incident involving the overzealous removal of a pair of falsies, but with two coats of this mascara, I look like I’m wearing lash extensions.

And that’s after just one coat!

My lashes are dramatically longer, defined, separated, lifted and curled — with nary a clump — and at the end of the day, there are absolutely no smudges or flakes in sight.

You might like Mallywood Smoky Mama if…

  • You love the look of L’Oreal Lash Paradise (the two look VERY similar), but have trubs with it flaking or smudging.
  • You’re a fan of the separation of MAC Extended Play Gigablack.
  • You like extreme lift and lash curl hold similar to MAC In Extra Dimension Waterproof mascara.

Oh…did I mention the adorable hot pink tube? AND THE GOLDEN GLITTER CAP?! It’s all about the little things, really. If you’re looking for a lengthening, lifting and curling mascara with a good amount of volume (but not so much that your lashes look like spider legs), this is it.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 5 out of 5 hearts.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Ugh, I have stick straight Asian lashes. I have to heat a curler with a shot from my blow dryer for them to have a chance at keeping a curl. I’ve used every damn mascara out there, and the only ones that don’t make my lashes go straight again are the Maybelline waterproof mascaras.

Karen, does this happen to you too? Do you pinky swear that this mascara won’t turn my poor Asian lashes into a floppy mess?

Is the formula as dry as lash paradise?

No, not at all. It’s a wet formula, and it stays that way.

Have you tried the Maybelline cat eyes mascara? The wand is super curved so it curls your lashes while giving them volume. I just picked it up last week and I’m really liking it so far!

Ooh, I’m glad you found a keeper!! It sounds a bit too wet and not spider-leggy enough for me (HAHA!) but I still have Lash Paradise on my list. I don’t need the length or curl at this point so I prefer the thicker, drier formula. 🙂

Hey stick straight, sad Asian lash club! Believe it or not, I’ve had tremendous success from the popular HG’s like Better Than Sex and DiorShow. I find that the wetter formulas with the big fluffy wire twisted brushes do the trick for me. I can’t manage drier formulas, they just don’t even GET on my lashes to begin with. Might give this one a try too if it has that fluffy brush I love so much. Thanks Karen!

      Hi Olivia,

The brush is a thin brush with short bristles similar to MAC Extended Play Gigablack. If you like Too Faced Better Thank Sex you might want to try L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise. Very similar look (and brush)!

Your lashes look great! I used the Glossier Lash Slick mascara today (only comes in black) and was pretty impressed.

Ooh, what’s the finish like? Matte or shiny?

Oh, lovely. Ya know, I keep meaning to do a Glossier haul but I get so distracted by everything else out there!

The skin tint is very sheer but gives a nice dewy finish. Concealer doesn’t have the most coverage but I like it for under eyes. The cream blush is pretty nice but I don’t love the packaging. Boy Brow is great, the mascara is pretty good too. I haven’t tried the lippies since they were reformulated. A lot of the skincare has too much of a floral scent for me.
