MAC Nailed It with MAC Nail Trend F/W ’09 By Jin Soon Choi

August 21st, 2009 by Karen 30 Comments

mac nail trend fw 09 swatches

I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that MAC’s Nail Trend Fall/Winter ’09 Jin Soon Choi collection nail polishes break my MAC nail lacquer curse.

I haven’t always had the greatest luck with MAC’s nail polishes. Most have chipped like Cheetoes, but I’m hoping the Jin Soon Choi collection breaks the cycle.

A fixture in the fashion biz for more than 20 years, nail artist Jin Soon worked with MAC on this release. They aimed for trendy and chip-resistant, with rich lacquers and full coverage.

Colors in the collection include…

  • Cool Reserve: a dirty, grayish lavender cream
  • For Fun: a creamy purple
  • Dance All Night: a creamy brick red
  • Rich, Dark, Delicious: a creamy blackened brown
  • Dry Martini: a creamy khaki olive green
  • Beyond Jealous: a creamy blackened bluish green
  • Underlacquer: a base coat
  • Overlacquer: a top coat

The shades arrive on counters this Thursday. I took a quick look at two of them today.

I can’t attest to their durability yet since I’ve only been wearing them a short time today, but I think the formula feels thicker than MAC’s lacquers of yore, laying down smooth color sans brush marks or bubbles.

I like both of these shades and will keep you posted on their durability over the next few days.

Look out weekend — here we come!

Hallelujar! The weekend’s ON.

Do you have any plans tonight? I’ve just been chilling at home. Exciting, I know, but I’m wasted. I think I need to veg.

Maybe I’ll chat online with Vampire Edward (as in Twilight’s Edward Cullen). The fanged one (or an impostor) started following me on Twitter!

Dude, I hope Bella doesn’t mind. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Oh, one more MAC thing to look forward to: Flirt With Fall on Aug. 27! It’s a collection of six false lashes, and they’re really supposed to bring the drama.

Love that purple…Doesn’t it seem like a good purple polish is really had to come by? I did pick up “purple with a purpose” by OPI last week and LOVE it. Highly recommend. Also picked up Calypso Breeze, a pretty Teal blue by Orly. Wore it on nails last week. It’s an awesome color, but seemed to chip rather fast. This is my first experience with Orly. Does it always chip fast or is it just this color?

      Hi Amy,

Are you wearing a good base coat? That can make all the difference.

This collection is a tough one for me,because I want them all…but what for? 😀
I think I like very much Dry Martini (the green one – but how is it going to fit my work?),the purple For FUn is simply fantastic.I’ve got one from OPI called Siberian Nights, but it’s a dark and gloomy one,For Fun appears much lighter, and “jucier” for me.More wearable 🙂
And the red one.The classic, unforgetable, never out of style, almost suitable for every occasion. For me – of course! must have 🙂

I’ve really been into polish lately, and I’ve really been anticipating this collection! I’m going to go in early and reserve my bottles of Dirty Martini and Beyond Jealous! *Droool!*

P.S. Caved on another Armani shadow yesterday. It’s a sickness!

I meant “Dry Martini”! For some reason that shade has permanently become “Dirty Martini” in my head… and I like it better that way! 😉

Beyond Jealous and Cool Reserve are definitely my faves of the collection with Dry Martini a close third. I wish the MAC formula applied better but it’s definitely workable. I’ve been waiting for almost a year for these colors to finally surface. I’m so happy for Jin, she’s a hard worker and an amazing editorial manicurist.

As obsessed as I am with MAC, I’ve never owned a MAC polish (I’m an OPI girl). Those colors are fierce though! Thankfully, I have very similar shades from previous OPI collections. The purple one that I have that looks just like that is called CAN YOU DIG IT?, and the dark red one? I must have like seven colors that look like that one. They will all be in rotation this fall/winter season.

Now the color I’m really feeling this season is dark green! I don’t know if I should get HERE TODAY…ARAGON TOMORROW from OPI’s España collection, or DARK ROOM from Sephora by OPI. Decisions, decisions…

I love both of these, the colors really stand out and that is what I need now. I have been going through a lot lately and in deep depression. I need something to keep me going. Beautiful color.

I have to make one thing totally clear- I am a huge MAC fan girl. But their nail polish? Not feeling them. The colours are usually gorgeous, apply massively easy and the finished product always gets me compliments. The issue though for me, is even with a top coat, bottom coat and touch ups, it never lasts. Not even a week! And I work in an office environment mind you! I noticed it basically starts to chip, wear and “shrink” into my nail by Wednesday (I apply on Sunday). By Friday it’s looking shabby, by Saturday, pitiful. Which is a shame because I love how fresh and pretty their colours are. Funny thing, Chanel’s colours tend to have a similar result too (usually chipping by Thursday or so).

OPI still works best overall for me.
