The Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Colors from the left in Night Fright, Pumpkin Queen, OMGhost and Scaredy Matte ($5 each)

world-series-mani-2014In line at Target last Sunday afternoon…

GIANTS SUPER FAN LADY WEARING HEAD-TO-TOE ORANGE AND BLACK GIANTS GEAR: “I like your Giants nails!”

ME: “Oh! Thanks!”

ME (INSIDE VOICE): I probably shouldn’t tell her that I know nothing about baseball…or that this is actually a Halloween-inspired mani.

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color Halloween Shades

GIANTS SUPER FAN: “That offense in game four…”

ME: “…nothing short of amazing.”

ME (INSIDE VOICE): What the hell am I doing?

GIANTS SUPER FAN: “How about that Sandoval?”

ME: “Right!? Amazing!”

ME (INSIDE VOICE): Change the subject, change the subject, change the subject…

GIANTS SUPER FAN: “I hope he gets over that stomach bug soon.”

ME: “Me too. Tummy troubles are the worst!”

Awkward pause…

ME: “You should totally do a Giants mani to match your Giants gear.”

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color in Pumpkin Queen
Clockwise from my thumb: Night Fright (glossy black), Pumpkin Queen (glossy orange) and Scaredy Matte (matte black)

GIANTS SUPER FAN: “I’d love that! But geez, I don’t have time to paint my nails.”

ME: “These Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Nail Colors would be perfect for you then. They only take five minutes to dry.”

GIANTS SUPER FAN: “Wow, that’s great!”

ME: “They really are. You just apply a single layer, wait five minutes and you’re done. And they’re only $5 a bottle.”

GIANTS SUPER FAN: “How’s the chipping?”

ME: “Well, if you want them to last until the end of the series, you should probably do a base coat, at the very least, especially if you have ridges on your nails, because the ridges will show through the polish.”

GIANTS SUPER FAN: “Uh huh.”

ME: “And maybe also a top coat if you can spare the time. I’ve had this mani for about four days now, and I just used a base coat, and it’s held up really well. Just a few tiny chips around the edges, see?”

GIANTS SUPER FAN: “Oh yeah, right there… What a good idea! Are those all new colors?”

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Color in OMGhost
On my nails, from the top to the bottom: Scaredy Matte (mate black), Night Fright (glossy black) and OMGhost (glossy white)

ME: “They’re limited edition. Sally Hansen made them special for Halloween, actually. The glossy black is called Night Fright, the matte black is Scaredy Matte, the glossy orange is Pumpkin Queen and the glossy white is OMGhost. They have them right here in Target, and I think they’re also at Ulta, CVS and Walgreens.”

GIANTS SUPER FAN: “I almost never paint my nails, but you’ve talked me into it! I can’t wait. Thanks for the idea!”

ME: “You’re welcome.”

GIANTS SUPER FAN: “Go Giants!”

ME: “Yeah! Go Giants!” 🙂

PRICE: $5 each
AVAILABILITY: Limited edition, available now at Target, CVS, Walgreens and Ulta stores (they’re hard to track down online, unfortunately)
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (Don’t skip your base coat, unless you want those ridges to show.)

Speaking of All Hallows’ Eve, what do you think of this costume on Tabs?

Giddy up!
Giddy up!

Tabs isn’t really feeling it, but I totally am!

Love the Insta Dry formula .. I can never sit still long enough to have my nail polish cure and always (always) scuff or nick it. Insta dry just dries fast and I have pretty nails.

      Hi Monica,

Yes, that’s what I love about them too! No fuss, and they dry so fast.

What are your favorite Insta-Dri shades?

I’ll have to look those up. I have a shimmery teal shade that’s my go-to and need to stock up on more fall colors. Thank you for the recs!

Tabs looks like he´auditioning for Toy Story 3. Maybe you can sell him this costume that way…

Never tried the Sally Hansen nail polishes, I am an Essie girl all the way! But they seem to hold up well.

Or maybe if I add some Swarovski crystals to the saddle? He is easily swayed by bling, as you know.

I love me some Essie. They’ve been doing a lot of bolder collections over the last few years, which is fun! I especially love their blues and greens. Turquoise & Caicos is a favorite.

Yes it is. It reminds me of tropical beaches. Wish I was at one right now, sigh. It’s cold here in Northern California! 🙂

These look fun! I just a compliment on my Halloween nails in a store today too 🙂 That black matte color looks great. I need to look for these.

      Hi Agata,

The black matte shade is fun. If you get it, don’t skip the base coat, because it’s the shade that shows the ridges of the nails the most.

What store did you go to? Hope you had a nice weekend!

San Francisco is my birth city and where I grew up around, so while I’m in total favor of Giants memorabilia, really? Not recognizing Halloween gear for what it is? Halloween trumps everything else. Yaaay these nails!

      Hi Stephanie,

      Woo hoo, Halloween! 🙂

Are you still in the Bay Area? I wasn’t born here, but I moved here when I was a baby and have lived here practically all my life.

I’m not, I moved away for college and realized it’s too expensive there to move back, so I’m trying to figure out something else – but the Bay Area will always be home. (Let me know if you have good sushi anytime soon – it’s so hard to get fresh fish here in the Midwest and mmm sushi…)

My weekend was pretty chill. Just stayed in and enjoyed some me-time.

KAREN. OMG. KAREN. This is only semi related to the Halloween polish post (Tabs is adorbs as always), but DID YOU SEE THE PREVIEWS FOR THE NEXT THE WALKING DEAD.

    BETH.

    *dies of angst*

I cannot WAIT. BTW, did you have any trouble eating after the Strangers episode?? I swear I was gagging for days afterwards.

      Hi Estefania,

Was Strangers the second episode of this season? Yeah, that was quite disturbing at the end.

So, Beth. I’ve been thinking about the previews too. I think she might be part of some sort of experiment for a cure.

Who do you think was behind Daryl in the woods?

Last Sunday’s episode unsettled me. The scene in the church made me feel really uncomfortable. 🙁

One last thing, did you happen to notice the neat lighting in the episode? They did a lot of cool things with shadows.

Yes, Strangers was the second one. I swear, I don’t know why I bother eating during that show!
That actually makes a lot of sense for Beth. That makes me worry that maybe the Abraham and Eugene crew are working with some not so nice people…
I really hope it was Carol behind Daryl. I don’t think I can let go of her just yet! But then again, remember who we saw at the end of the very first episode of this season? Might be them.
I know, that scene was very hard. I realized I was making the same face as Maggie and Glenn. (I also suspect they’ll end up separating from Rick and the others, but we’ll see).
I did, actually. I think that’s the main reason I was so on edge when the church scene started. It was very eerie…

Ugh, me too! I waited until dinner last night to watch the new episode and was not hungry AT ALL after the opening scene. You’d think I’d know better than to eat during the show, but apparently not!

I’ve got half a dozen crazy scenarios running in my head about Beth. I just hope that they open up that story line more soon. It’s been too long since her disappearance!

As for Daryl, I think it might be Morgan behind him. They have to have him intersect with the group soon!

I’m seriously worried for Glenn. It seems like the moment someone becomes the moral compass of the group, BAM, they’re off the show. But the writers can’t kill Glenn. They can’t. Right?! Oh, this show is cruel that way!

They can’t kill off Glenn. They just can’t! He’s like my baby! Then I remember Lizzie and Mika and I realize nothing is off limits :/
I’m really excited about where the hospital scenario might go. I used to worry about this show getting really old eventually (you can only fight walkers for so long, right??), but the story just gets better and better!

I love fast drying polishes, my personal favorite right now is the Gel Laques from L’Oreal! I haven’t tried any Sally goodies in a long time, I’ll have to check them out.
