What Are You Wearing On Your Nails?

October 7th, 2014 by Karen 37 Comments

Dolce & Gabbana Nail Lacquer in Fiamma
Dolce & Gabbana Nail Lacquer in Fiamma ($25)

I’m wearing deep, creamy red Dolce & Gabbana Nail Lacquer in Fiamma. It’s an LE lacquer in D&G’s new fall collection.

These pics are circa two days ago, with two layers of Fiamma sandwiched between Guerlain base and top coats. I see a little bit of slight, barely noticeable chipping and fletching at the tips now, but it’s held up well so far!

Deep reds like this usually show every bit of wear and tear, but Faimma has already held up to probably 10 solid hours of typing and half a dozen dish washing sessions (not to mention the opening of at least 10 cans of gravy). 🙂

It’s $25 and available now with the rest of the fall collection from Dolce & Gabbana.

Oh, and public service announcement based on personal experience: if you buy one of those cute pie pumpkins from Trader Joe’s with the intention of baking an actual pie with it, you might not want to name it.

Dolce & Gabbana Nail Lacquer in Fiamma

Because I did. I named it Hal, and then when I got ready to make the pie, I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

I looked at the knife…then at Hal…then at the knife…then at Hal.

Couldn’t do it. So no pie for me.

Especially not with Marguerite watching. She’s Hal’s small, spunky friend. 🙂

You are too funny Karen with naming your pumpkins 🙂

I am currently wearing Zoya nail polish in Yuna, it’s an absolute stunner! I love how the shade looks different depending on the light.

That’s a really pretty color you’re wearing! I’m rocking a mani with Sally Hansen’s Gel Polish in Redgy. It’s supposed to last 2 weeks without chipping & so far, so good, even with all the dirty dishes my family produces! 😉

Really gorgeous shade! I don’t have anything on my nails at the moment and it’s making me really sad 🙁 Next chance I get I’m painting it a wine color to go with the season!

Those are awesome photos! Lately I’ve been wearing either “Mrs. Mia Wallace” from Urban Decay’s Pulp Fiction collection (“deepened, ruby red with very fine, subtle ruby shimmer”), or Sally Hansen’s “Commander In Chic” (glossy “slightly purplish-grey-taupe”).

Do you know if this is called “Deep Red” on Sephora’s website? I don’t see the name “Fiamma” on any of the D&G nail colors.

      Hi Bekah,

I think Deep Red is another shade. They probably don’t have the LE colors up on the site yet. 🙂

Sad to say the only thing on my nails is some leftover sparkle polish I tried at Sephora and also a bit of red I tried. (I’m too embarassed to say how many days ago this was.)

Please give me nephew a squeeze for me.

p.s. Senor Paco Rabanne has been sleeping with me at night, he’s such a cuddly fur baby 🙂

      Hi Jennifer,

He’s taking a nap in the corner of my office. Let me go grab him… *SQUEEZE*. Ahh, so satisfying! I also got in an extra belly squish for you there for good measure.

How sweet that Paco Rabbane has been gracing you with his presence at night! Isn’t that the best? Does he sleep with you the whole night through?

urban outfitters had (don’t know if still avail) great nail polish on sale, two for $8 with free ship. nice deal, nice bottles (not that that matters at all)— i bought 4–navy blue (wearing now), a metallic bronzy color, and 2 more. i get about one week out of a mani with these, and a little chipping. the polish comes off in layers when ready.

Omg karen!! My baby brother and i went through the same stage too! We’d buy the pumpkin with the intention of cutting it open and roasting the seeds but almost always chickened out towards the end! They are just too cute and lovable.

      Hi Y.

AHHH! Glad to know I’m not the only one who gets attached to pumpkins, LOL! I’m going to get a few more this week. 😀

How many years are you and your brother apart? I’m six years older than my younger brother.

I am wearing one of the new “Barry M’ classic colors for fall: dusty nude pink called Ballerina, that was originally intended for my mother but of the 3 I bought ( 3 x 2 offer) is my favourite. Got Chai ( grey from Gelly collection), Violet “something” and this pink.

Stunning nail color! Try this. Look directly at Hal and say “Open the pod bay doors, please, Hal”. If he replies “I’m sorry I can’t do that (Dave)”, use your knife immediately and do NOT be distracted if the pumpkin starts singing “Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do…”. 😉

Beautiful nails! I’m wearing Essie Bahama mama, but I have to change it tomorrow.. I think I’ll go for red as well!
btw, it looks gorgeous against the orange pumpkin! That color on a lipstick paired with an orange toned eyeshadow…? Might work, I’ll try!

I am wearing Mrs. Mia Wallace from Urban Decay. It got really bad reviews and is now on sale for $5. My manicurist must be a genius because I get a full week from my manicures and I have natural nails.
For me, Mrs. Mia Wallace still looks good and it was a week old yesterday. (seriously? I have a teeny bit of wear along the very edge.)

I’m wearing the most beautiful vintage half moon manicure.. dark green shellac with pink additives so it’s a duochrome blue / turquoise. It’s STUNNING. My cousin runs a vintage nail salon and she is just so uber talented.

I’m about to paint my toes and nails with the two Urban Decay polishes I got in the mail today, Vice (shimmer purple) and Addiction (chrome) for only $5 each from Hautelook. Sooooo excited to wear these colors, I’ve been oogling swatches for so long!

I love the color you have on with your special pumpkin. I am wearing Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polish in Greyfitti. I had a coupon and decided to try it out. LOVE IT! I wore two coats plus did some dotting nail art and then the Miracle Gel Top Coat for over 8 days. Dishes, chasing/playing with grandkids, etc. Not one chip or fade.

Loving that color! I’ve got on Zoya’s America, such a pretty classic tomato red. It’s a one-coater if you’re in a hurry, which I was on Saturday. I did do Seche Vite base coat and Orly’s quick-dry topcoat. I have a love-hate relationship with the formula though – it evens out and lasts well, but I have to thin it every time I use it, sometimes between coats if I’m doing two.

I had a lovely mix of Deborah Lippman’s Naked, a basic black, and tenoverten’s Worth. I felt pretty classy… and then it faded and had to be removed. Sigh.

Question: have you tried out the new Geltox system from Ciate? I wonder how long it lasts for, since half the reviews on Sephora were from before the system shipped. Not many clear statements on longevity yet.
