What Are You Wearing on Your Nails?

November 20th, 2014 by Karen 29 Comments

Smith & Cult Tenderoni
Smith & Cult Nail Lacquer in Tenderoni ($18)

I’m almost ashamed to admit this (but apparently not ashamed enough to keep it to myself): when I was 15, I was obsessed with Bobby Brown.

Not the makeup maven (Bobbi), but the R&B one (Bobby), as in the former member of New Edition/ex-husband of Whitney (RIP, Whit).

I knew all the choreography in the Every Little Step video, had a picture of him on the front of my geometry folder (he was wearing a shiny gold and purple suit, wha?!) and, on more than one occasion, slow danced to Roni, Bobby’s ode to cute girls looking for love in all the wrong places.

I also may or may not have thought of myself as a Tenderoni.

Um, barf!

I do have a point with all this, and here it is: when I saw that this creamy taupe nail lacquer by Smith & Cult was called Tenderoni, something in me clicked. I had to get it on my paws!

Smith & Cult is a new nail line by Dineh Mohajer, the founder of Hard Candy, and they get my vote for “Most Clever Nail Polish Names, Ever” (like Dirty Baby, Cut the Mullet, Bitter Buddhist, and Feed the Rich). Each of the 30 shades in the line is inspired by different key life moments…and apparently this one relates to when I was 15 and had designs on marrying Bobby Brown, LOL! Ew…

Well, at least I can look back at that clueless but lovable Karen and laugh my @ss off now. Yup, nothing but mad love for that girl. 🙂

Smith & Cult Check the Rhyme
Check the Rhyme ($18)

So, of course, with this mani I had to do an accent nail. The creamy purple is Check the Rhyme, also by Smith & Cult.

With both shades, I’m wearing two layers and a base coat.

Smith & Cult Nail Lacquers are $18 each, and if you’re curious (and how could you not be? That packaging is killer!), you can check out the full collection online now.

Let those fingers do the typing, and let me know what you’re currently wearing on your nails. Bonus points if you also happen to have an embarrassing story from your teenage years. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

OMG…when I saw the name tenderoni I automatically go the song in my head. I love the name colors (I just checked out the website)! Hope you are having a good day! It’s quite gloomy outside

HI! I still know the words to Roni, haha! *shaking my head* I have a few other colors to swatch… Not gonna lie, I picked most of them because of the names.

Is it raining in your neck of the woods? It’s drizzling in Novato, bah!

OMG I remember that folder. My nails are natural right now in prep for a 7 free organic gel polish I’m about to test!

Wow, the design is awesome and so are the names! Their website looks cool too. Check the Rhyme is right up my alley, what a pretty shade!

Right now I am wearing China Glaze Well Trained, which I wore to the wedding and it was a perfect peacock shade (that’s the second color of the wedding, next to plum). But I need a new color since two of my nails are chipped. Ugh.

Love the shades and especially the packaging! How cool that the founder of Hard Candy is back at it since selling her brand. Also love the theme behind the names. Clever and memorable. I just took off my polish a few minutes ago, but did my version of an ombre with every nail a different shade from Zoya Naturels 1 & 2. Not sure what’s going to be next

I have a blue sparkly gel polish on, not sure of the name. Trying to figure out the next polish for Thanksgiving, I was thinking purple, and I love your manicure, I may do that! My embarrassing story? Just one? I used to pretend that the Color Me Bad boys were singing right to me, I got a bit emotional a few times thinking about that. Good times!

LOL, I briefly dated a boy in college who LOVED Color Me Badd. They were “his band.” He had all their CDs (I think they had two of them?) and knew all the songs. Oy vey!

On my nails today (and for the last weeks, tbh) is Essie “Sole Mate”, which is in no way related to my teenage years.
But I used to be madly in love with NKOTB, posters and everything, and daydreamed of marrying Jordan Knight.

    LOLOLOL!

When someone told me years ago about BB Makeup, I said,

“What? He has a makeup line out too?”

Cut the Mullet — Love it!

Today, in honor of the gray fog that is now all the way to the ground, I will put on Chanel Particulere (a favorite).

Bonus point for embarrassing story from teen age years? Well, there was the guy who really did not want to go out on a date with me that cold wintry Saturday night and so he had a friend call to say that he (the Welch) had been in a car accident!

But Welch was in science class on Monday!

I looove Tenderoni! It seems like the kind of shade that is “boring” but I’ll reach for often! For the moment I have Burberry Gold on my nails. It’s part of their holiday collection. I’d say it’s a beige with a good dose of very fine shimmer. I normally don’t do beige because it tends to look bleh on my skin tone, but with the generous dose of shimmer and sheen, Gold is a wonderful break from all the reds and real golds I’ve been seeing 🙂

These polishes look awesome! I love the look of Kings and Thieves, I’ve wanted a royal blue like that for ages!

I’ve currently got on Face of Australia Dark Side (Ltd Ed) in “Jafar” (a really dark ox blood), with “Maleficent” (a very, very dark purple) from the same line on my accent nail. They both look like the same at a glance, but in direct light you can see the slight difference in colour.

I’m ashamed to say I’m still wearing a very damaged version of the mani I had last week! Haha, between work and NYC, I’ve had zero time to do my nails.

I am planning on slappin’ on a coat of Marc Jacobs Le Charm when I get home! (I loves me some rose gold)

Oh! So much love for the nail color named after a Bobby Brown song! I love wearing Deborah Lippmann My Prerogative, for the same reason. You need that one, too, Karen! These are gorgeous. Tenderoni is just my speed. I love those milky chocolatey taupes, a la Chanel Particuliere. :::swooon:::

    I like that purple.

I have acrylic nails (keeps me from biting them), and recently had a new complete set done. I went with the clear gel acrylic with sparkly red tips underneath. I have Zoya Teigen on my toes.

i love painting my nails! I jumped on the julep bandwagon over a year ago and I am obsessed with all things Julep. Today I am wearing Julep Coco a deep oxblood creme. Since I was a little girl I always loved painting my nails, especially in Catholic school when it was a big no-no!
The girls at work are using Jamberrys, these nail stickers in fun designs. But I feel like changing my nail color twice a week is like therapy. I have it down to a 30 minute process– base coat, 2 coats color and quick dry top-coat or drops and I can go about my day 🙂

Don’t feel too bad – Whitney fell for him, too, and you were much younger and had less life experience. 🙂

These polishes look super creamy and very upscale. We can all thank Suzie at OPI for the clever polish name game but I’m a fan of Butter London’s. Something about the British slang amuses me. Btw, did we ever talk about the Walmart polish names (one of them was Jail Bait – I almost had a heart attack!)?

I wore MC Hammer pants. It does NOT get more embarrassing than that. HAHA!

LOL I love that song! I think we’ve all considered ourselves a tenderoni at least once in life lol. I really like those colors though! Surprisingly, I like Tenderoni more than the purple. Now I want it!
