His face! Those paws!
We call this “the sexy time pose.” Tabs usually whips it out when he’s hungry for food and/or lurvies.
I see it and go “awwwwwww!”

Works every time…

The new China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze collection is so good…
(How good is it?)
It’s so good that you just might lose yourself while painting your paws and forget to remove your hot rollers.

LOL!
Please forgive the above picture. It started as a two-minute makeup look (brows, concealer, gloss), but I didn’t make it through the rest of the process before being distracted by all the one-coaters (ONE COAT!) in the second half of this new 12-piece holiday collection (if you missed it, here’s part one).
It’s the chrome finishes, man!
Glitters and textured polishes usually steal the spotlight, and yes, there’s gobs of glitter and show-stopping textures among the six shades here, but if you’re the kind of gal/guy who loves mad pigment from a single layer, you have lots to look forward to in this limited edition release, which lands on shelves next month.
For pics of the first half of this collection, check out May Your Days Be Merry and Bright With the China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze Collection, Part 1

Elfin’ Around, a bright red polish with a hint of copper, only needs a single layer. It should look lovely on paws/claws attached to lacquer lovers with warm skin.

I really dig the fine flecks of glitter in Just Be-Claws, another one-coater from the collection. It’s subtle in the way that Chanel is. Save it for toes and your most festive strappy sandals.

Wicked, the musical inspired by The Wizard of Oz, holds a special place in my heart, and not just because of the cool beats (“Popular! You’re gonna be pop-u-lar!”) or the killer stage makeup (hello, green skin) or ’cause I was lucky enough to see it 10 years ago at SF’s Curran Theater before it headed east to Broadway.
Nope, Wicked will forever be engraved in my mind as the show I was watching when I accidentally fell down the stairs in the theater, exposing my naughty bits to a whole mess of strangers.
It all started with my decision to wear 4-inch heels…
One flowing skirt and a misguided step later, and before I knew it, I was tumbling down a flight of bizarrely steep stairs, my skirt raising and lifting in unfortunate directions.
Yeah…let me put it this way: that night the mezzanine got a special kind of show. 🙂 Thankfully, I was wearing non-ratty underwear.
If you also have fun, fond memories of the show, are just a fan of all things Oz, or love pink and green polishes and/or witches, you might find Deborah Lippmann’s new three-piece Wicked Collection ($29) bewitching.
Deborah, herself a fan of the show, made the set of three minis in honor of Wicked’s 10th anniversary this month, and like a perfect three-part harmony, the colors play off one another beautifully.

Shimmery pink Popular was inspired by Glinda, one of the star witches in the show. Its color matches the dress Glinda wears while she sings the song of the same name.
I love Popular’s brightness and late ’80s vibe (I think I wore something just like it to the eighth grade dance, haha!), but I wish I didn’t need three coats for full opacity.
More pigment, please.

Elphaba’s green epidermis sparked Defying Gravity, which I find super pretty. Plus, I only need two coats!
With creamy greens, you often run the risk of nails that end up looking like baby poo, but not in this case. Something about it reminds me of jade jewelry…

Bells will be ringing and fingernails will be blinging when the new China Glaze Happy HoliGlaze Collection arrives next month.
Glitters and shiny chromes twinkle, twinkle like little stars in the limited edition 12-piece release, so if it’s the sparkly stuff that stokes your fire, BLING!
Here’s a sneak peek at the first half of the collection. Stay tuned for the second six very soon (tomorrow).

Teal and purple flecks fill Your Present Required, a multicolored glitter-fest with a clear base.
I’m wearing three coats in the pic above…

Glitter comes in all shapes and sizes, from little bits to longer bars, when the Bells Will Be Blinging. They almost create a speckled egg effect, don’t you think?
In that pic above, I’m wearing two coats.

Purplish blue All Wrapped Up looks downright Zoya-esque with its fine gritty finish. If you like tactile treats and textured nails, give this one a whirl. I’m wearing two coats here.

MUST. ROCK. OUT.
Yeah, I couldn’t resist wearing Deborah Lippmann’s newest nail polish without blasting this song at least once…
I try to sing along, but I don’t know the lyrics, so it sounds like I’m saying, “99 lah-lah-balloons, la-la-la-la-la-laaaah, la!” 🙂

A bright and dramatic fuchsia jelly with pieces of hexagonal green, silver, orange, red and blue glitter interspersed with smaller square pieces in the same colors, it practically sings! — on nails.
It’s also an excellent conversation starter.
99 Luftballons is available now (on iTunes) at Sephora stores and sephora.com for $19.

Future revolutionaries, take note. Next time you start a rebellion, keep a bottle of Rogue Red Glosstini from the Covergirl Hunger Games collection close…because it just seems right to wear a glittery reddish gold polish on your claws/paws while you’re usurping authority.
That, and it’s only $3.79!
That’s a small price to pay for defiance. 🙂
I really like this one, even if it isn’t entirely unique (reminds me of Riveting from the China Glaze Capitol Colours collection).
It’s glittery, pigmented and smooth. Great, great and great.
I’m using two layers here, but I think I could have gotten away with just one.
Check your local drugstore for availability (this one seems a little hard to track down online).

Could you please wait a Minuit? I forgot my toasty cat lady socks and boots. I’ll be right back…
There! Got ’em. Now we can proceed. 🙂
But that reminds me, I would seriously consider freezing my toes off in strappy sandals just to be able to show off Dior’s new $26 Minuit Vernis nail polish.

One of four Vernis polishes in the new Dior Golden Winter collection, it arrives with the rest of the release on counters next month.
Methinks Minuit will reel in the gals who loved last summer’s Chanel Taboo (like me). The two look quite alike at first glance, thanks to the dark purplish burgundy base, but Minuit is also swimming in golden micro glitter.

And yet the glitter doesn’t dominate. Yeah, there’s a lot of it in there…but you can still see see the base, which I like, and the formula remains smooth and easy to apply.
Depending on the light, Minuit can also look completely different, like when I’m “working” in my office (also known as “the bathroom,” haha!), Minuit looks like a warmish burgundy/reddish purple, but when I take Tabs for a walk outside on a sunny day, it looks more like a cool, plummy blackened purple.
Neat.

I’m sure you have a few of ’em in your hair-styling bag. 🙂
I’ve always struggled with my mop, but I’ve learned a few time-saving tricks and shortcuts over the years (mostly the hard way) to lessen the pain.
Like, when I used to have blunt bangs across my forehead, I’d squeeze one extra day out of my blowouts by putting the back and sides of my hair up in a towel but leaving my bangs uncovered. Then I’d just wash the bangs…which took a lot less time than washing a whole head of hair.

Lately I’ve been rocking mid-length side-swept bangs, and to reduce heat styling damage (and shave a few minutes off my getting-ready time), I’ll usually just blow my bangs straight but leave the rest of my hair to air dry.
Oh, and if I have to look responsible for something (ptooey!) but don’t have enough time to do my hair the way I’d like, I’ll run a dollop of styling product, like a soft hold gel, through the top layers and the ends, and gather everything up in a low ponytail on the back of my neck.
Then, I’ll spray some hairspray all over, and use a boar’s hair brush to smooth and control the strays.
Sometimes I’ll also wash my hair at night and go to sleep with it slightly damp (as long as it isn’t cold in the house) because something magical happens overnight…
Lying flat like that for hours really boosts my volume and waves, and I wake up looking a little like the Bride of Frankenstein, LOL! But I take advantage of it by playing up the volume and curls. Using a large barrel curling iron or hot rollers, I’ll curl the top layers and ends.
The result smacks of big pageant hair at first, but when it mellows out it looks less cray.

And of course, when all else fails, there are always hats. 🙂
How about you? Do you have any hair-styling shortcuts or time-saving tricks? I’d love to hair about them.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
