35 Ways to Shine: The New Make Up For Ever Lab Shine Lip Glosses

January 6th, 2011 by Karen 37 Comments

Make Up For Ever hopes to woo a lotta lips this spring with their glitzy new line of glosses, but these luminescent lippies might be a little too much like young love (meaning they fade all too soon).

For their shiniest lip gloss yet, Make Up For Ever loaded each tube of Lab Shine with highly reflective pearl pigments. The entire line encompasses three different finishes (Diamond, Star and Metal) spanning a whopping 35 colors.

The Diamond CollectionThe Diamond Collection’s 12 shimmery shades are formulated with Make Up For Ever Diamond Powder for transparent, natural looking color and glittery shine.

The Star CollectionThe Star Collection boasts 14 shades blended with Make Up For Ever Star Powder to give lips glamorous shine with an iridescent mother-of-pearl finish.

The Metal CollectionThe Metal Collection features nine shades made with Make Up For Ever Metal Powder, giving lips an intense mirror-like finish.

My lips love how these glosses feel, smell and taste — or rather how they don’t taste like much at all. I like the faint fragrance, which reminds me of hibiscus.

Smooth and hydrating, containing camelina oil (which is rich in vitamin E) and beeswax, they have a medium-weight texture that’s not sticky, so they scoot onto my lips with ease.

As for shine, it’s off the chain! — but I think some gals might have issues with the pigments. Both the Star and Diamond collection glosses go on significantly sheerer than they look in the tubes or the arm swatch. The Star glosses have a subtle pearly finish, while the Diamond collection glosses boast chunks of big-@ss glitter). And the Metal glosses — they have a chrome finish with what I feel are the best pigments of the bunch, but I think even they could safely use more. And all of them have a pretty standard brush tip wand.

As for wear time, they simply don’t stick around as long as I’d like them to considering the price. I get about two and half hours out of them, which isn’t dreadfully bad, but for $18, I’d like to spend a little more time with my gloss, ya know?

The line sparkles onto shelves in February, but they’re already up for grabs at Sephora online. If you end up making out with these, prepare yourself to reapply. 🙂

PRICE: $18

Faster Than a Speeding Bullet!

I can’t believe tomorrow’s Friday. Pretty soon it’ll be July, LOL!

I have GOT to get a little better planning so I’m not left scrambling to find something to do on the weekends. I think I might try to visit Napa on Saturday to try a new restaurant if weather permits. Thanks to Top Chef, I’ve been thinking about eating almost as much as I think about makeup.

Do you have any plans for the weekend? How was your first week of 2011?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. I am so unbelievably tired right now. I wanted to finish this post before bedtime, but now I’m out on my feet. Sleep well, young lady. Zzzzz…

Doesn’t it always work that way, though?

I find that as I get older time seems to be moving faster!

Have fun in Napa. Hit a winery while you are at it.

These look nice but I think I have too many glosses. Whoa did I really just say that?

Wow, those are….sheer. If those don’t show up very well on your lips, they aren’t going to show up at all on my super pigmented pucker.

I’ve got no plans really except taking down the Christmas stuff. We were supposed to take it down today, but we got lazy. 🙂

Zena was being a bit of a drama queen too today since she turned seven yesterday (i.e. she’s officially “old.” She’s 47 in human years).

Oh, she’s always a puppy in my eyes too. All of my dogs have always been puppies in my eyes, even if I didn’t have them as puppies.

My mom was panicking around the house saying, “Oh gosh, she’s going to need senior food. Does her $16 for six pounds special diet dog food [Yes, we’re paranoid about dog food for her. She gets very expensive dog food] come in a senior formula?” I looked it up in my dog behavior book and said, “Mom, she doesn’t need senior food for another two years. Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalm doooooooooooooooown. ”

Oh yes, she got very spoiled. She got a very special dinner, consisting of dog food, white rice and cooked chicken. I just cooked a chicken breast tenderloin in butter on the stove for her and cut up half of it for her; there’s no need to make her fat. She loves rice and chicken, especially when mixed in her dog food because it smells horrific.

Weather should be good for a Napa trip this weekend. So happy to have the first weekend with no rain in the forecast in I don’t know how long! What restaurant are you wanting to try?

      Hi Heidi,

I’m not sure yet! I am going to do some research today on yelp to see if I can find anything.

Got any good recs for me? I love all types of food. 🙂

I would definitely head over to Oxbow Market, their fairly new area by the river that has an ongoing farmer’s market and all kinds of restaurants (just google Oxbow Market)! If you’re up for trying something different there’s a great Venezuelan restaurant called Pica Pica Maize Kitchen (I think), and it’s soooo good! There are plenty of other choices there if that doesn’t float your boat.

That’s too bad about the short wear time because they’re lovely! I liked the S24 in the swatches but the S16 looks great on you. The Ms definitely have the most blingy look, which is awesome (look away)!

Napa sounds great. It’s definitely on my list of things to do the next time I’m in CA (right after driving the entire PCH in a convertible). My fave food show right now is Man v. Food. There’s lots of delicious food with a strong incentive not to overeat! 🙂

      Hi Kim,

I say we package/brand our “Look Away” theory and brand it as a lifestyle, a la “The Secret.” 😀

I love that guy from Man V. Food. He’s such a hoot! The man is most dedicated to his craft of excessive meat gluttony, LOL!

Oh, I’m totally on board with that branding idea! 🙂

I love him too. My mom is absolutely horrified by the show (she is German and grew up after the war when there wasn’t much food to be had). Anyway, she’s a bit over the top with her “how can he eat like that?!” so one of the boys said “Grandma, we love this show and he doesn’t eat like that all the time (um, does he Mommy?)”. I should hope not. 🙂

HAPPY FRIDAY! 🙂 I like that spray too. It’s been a while since I’ve pulled it out — thanks for reminding me.

I remember being kinda overwhelmed by the brand too! Did you feel intimidated at first because of the staggering amount of colors?

Anywho, I hope you’re feeling better today.

yup, college bowl season is almost over! the championship is on the 10th!

we are going to some mexican place for lunch. I’m not supposed to eat that kind of cheese (the queso blanco stuff) but I will probably cheat because what can I possibly get at a mexican restaurant that doesn’t have cheese?! the cheese is the best part!

happy Friday! hope you’re having a good one!

I think I would like them a bit better if they weren’t so sheer, but I’m really liking that M14. The shimmer is also.

And, if I may say so, you look very fresh-faced in that picture. Nice!
