BOOM! These Neon Nails Hit Me Like a Ton of Bricks, or a Bright Orange Bazooka: The Essie Poppy Razzi Nail Polish Collection for Summer 2012

May 18th, 2012 by Karen 40 Comments

Lights, Camera, Action…Bazooka?

LOL! Which one of these things is doin’ its own thing? Maybe someday I’ll figure out what Bazooka, one of four bright shades in Essie’s Poppy Razzi release for summer 2012, is doing in this collection, but until then I’ll just try to enjoy the neon-ness of it all.

Why a bazooka?

Lights (an electric pink), Camera (a brilliant coral), Action (a vibrant orange) and Bazooka (a bright orange) — again, Bazooka? What am I missing?? — are darn near picture-perfect summer shades. All four apply smoothly from my cuticles to nail tips, despite having a formula on the thicker side, which is pretty typical, from my experience, of Essie polishes.

All I need is one coat of Camera (my fave!) or two of Bazooka and Lights. Action, however, likes being babied. It goes on a little streaky, so I usually apply a third coat.

With a good base and top coat, I can get a solid seven days (at least) from these before any signs of chipping.

If you’re thinking about trying the neon nail art mani I mentioned yesterday (highly recommended), colors like these would be perfect.

And if you took a pic and uploaded it to Flickr, you could even use it to enter the Buxom Photo Contest.

I’m just saying. 🙂 That prize has to go to someone.

PRICE: $8 per bottle
AVAILABILITY: Available now at beauty supply stores and salons
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+ (the shade, Action, is a little streaky)

Maybe I should go to bed immediately

zazzle bay to breakers

This Sunday is the big Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco. So exciting! I’ll be walking it with my friend Marisol, but I realized/remembered last night that it starts at 7 in the morning.

Uh…that’s early, especially since I live 30 miles away, and parking for the race is basically non-existent. The plan is for Marisol and I to drive part of the way there and then catch a 5:30 shuttle across the bridge into the city.

Easy enough, as long I can get my shizz together early. Like 4 o’clock in the morning early.

Yeegh, I can’t remember the last time I was behind the wheel at 4 in the morning. It’ll be quite the adventure! 🙂 Wish us luck.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

        Hi Agata,

I don’t know how you do it! I will need two alarm clocks and a big vat of coffee, that’s for sure. 🙂

Are you going out tonight? Or do you have work early tomorrow? El Hub and I are staying in.

I always set up two alarm clocks, just in case and I drink tons of coffee 🙂

I stayed in last night, I started work at 5am today but hopefully tonight I will go out to dinner with my husband and my friends.

Bazooka is for me. I remember paying 5 cents for the gum in 1992. The good ole days. 🙂

I have serious issues with nail polish staying on my nails, it always seems to chip off as soon as I do anything to do with water, like dishes, or showering. Do you have any recommendations for base and top coats that will help with that? or even what I could do to stop this from happening? Thanks!

      Hi Tricia,

I’ve had really good luck with Zoya Color Lock system and use it often:

For top coats, Seche Vite is awesome. AWESOME!

Gals, I’d love to hear what your fave base/top coats are. Please feel free to add to this thread…

I’ve had good luck with Anchor and Armor, too–I’d say on the whole it’s added an average of 1-2 days to my manicures. Which is good, because I’m averaging like 5 or maybe 6 days instead of the 4 (if I was lucky)!

I do have to top the Armor with a fast dry top coat because I’m the world’s clumsiest girl. I’ve been using Poshe just because putting Seche Vite on top of Armor would be a bit bulky. Poshe is thinner, but dries nice and fast!

Oh, so that does mean I find the Hurry Up! drying drops pretty useless. But now that I’m running out of Anchor and Armor, I can just buy those two instead of another color lock kit!

I like the Anchor and Armor, also. For a top coat lately, I’ve been using Barielle Pro. It makes my nail shine like patent leather. I also tend to use it on the third or fourth day of a mani to extend its life. ^^~~~

Of all the shades, Camera is my favorite. I think I have similar colors that match the other three.

I think I’m going to go to bed like NOW with my costume & all.

I need Camera, it’s so pretty! Can’t wait till they hit the stores here, they are very slow with the Essie releases here! Action is really a special shade to me, the finish seems less glossy too, or is it just me? I kinda like it though! 🙂

      Hi Nina,

Yeah, me too! There’s been so many great nail launches for summer so far. Don’t you love staring down at your toes and seeing bright colors? I love that.

Anywho, what summer shades have you been loving lately? I can’t seem to get enough of Sonia Kashuk’s Making Waves:
