Saluting Summer With Six Splashy New Stick Shimmer Shadows: The Refreshingly Cool Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows

April 30th, 2013 by Karen 44 Comments

Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows in Moon River, Cool Gold, Pink Lagoon, Jade Shore, Blue Bay and Black Stream
The six new $34 limited edition Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows in Moon River, Cool Gold, Pink Lagoon, Jade Shore, Blue Bay and Black Stream

When an effortless, ethereal cream shadow collided with a twist-up stick to form Chanel’s first Stylo Eyeshadow, I wager it was like when Karl Lagerfeld met Choupette the cat — a match made in crazy cat lady (and dude!) heaven.

Then, when some intrepid soul at Chanel added shimmer and glitter, it was like waltzing into the ritziest, fanciest Petco ever and finding an entire aisle dedicated to diamond-encrusted cat collars.

Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows in Jade Shore, Cool Gold, Moon River, Black Stream and Pink Lagoon

In other words, pretty freakin’ neat.

Add to that a bad-@ss cooling effect, and things get even better — like a battalion of drag queens with purple feather boas parachuting down into that same Petco carrying bedazzled cans of Gravy Lovers Fancy Feast while Haddaway’s What Is Love (Baby Don’t Hurt Me) blares over the store’s speakers.

Like I said — pretty freakin’ neat!

These pigmented stick shadows, which you can apply directly to lids or indirectly with a brush, have a high-shine finish jam-packed with fine flecks of glitter.

Buff them out for a mellow look with sheer color and lots of sparkle, or build them up in layers to go big with more pigment and shine, like I did for these pics.

And don’t tell me that you can’t pull off something bold like this with lots of blending. You can, girl. YOU GOT THIS! These Stylos blend like warm butter and take about 10 minutes to dry, which gives plenty of time to buff, sweep and merge the colors till you get a look you like.

Wearing Jade Shore (crease and inner corner), Cool Gold (lids), Moon River and Black Stream (mixed together and applied to inner part of lids), Blue Bay (outer corner and lower lash lines) and Pink Lagoon (center of lower lash lines)

And dang, I sure do like how cool these feel on my lids…

Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow in hand

I mean cool, like refreshing. They all have a cooling effect, and it’s not tingly or painful or anything like a lip plumping gloss. It feels more like an eye serum with one of those metal rollerballs, or like the thin, chilled cucumber slices they place on your lids at a spa.

Feels so good and fancy.

Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow caps

Just be sure to prep your lids first with a primer. I’ve noticed that if I wear these on bare skin, they just slip and slide into my creases for as long as they last (about 6-8 hours). I use and love NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, but something like a MAC Paint Pot, or whatever else you have around, should also work.

PRICE: $34 per 0.05-ounce twist-up stick
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Chanel counters and also online

Okay, I’m intrigued by the cooling effect now! I just got Moon River so I’m gonna test that baby out asap! Can I just say that your look looks absolutely amazing? You used so much colours at once and you look like a pretty nymph ^^. I love the interesting shimmer in them, especially in Jade Shore, stunning!

I bought Moon River, thinking it might be a safe bet (thought a safe bet, when it comes to color, is not in my character), but on my lids it doesn’t look taupe as in your swatch… It’s a lot lighter and more like a blonde brown (weird description, I know…), hard to describe. I’ll have to try it over a darker, taupe base maybe and see what happens. I did like the cooling effect A LOT :). Very refreshing ;). I really want Jade Shore and Blue Bay, they look so fresh and pretty!

      Hi Aida,

Hmm, maybe try it on maybe a white base (like a creamy pencil)? That might help to lighten up the color.

That’s a vivid Petco scene you’ve painted! HAHA! I was totally laughing after “What is love?”. And, I think your eye look is pastel, peacock-er-ific! That said, these guys are a little too glittery for me (I know! What’s happening?!) and there’s only room in my heart for one Chanel product right now. 🙂

Oh, no! I was thinking of Le Volume. I guess I have room for TWO (you’re such an enabler!). HAHA!

It’s beautiful this week. 76 and sunny today and supposed to be in the mid-high 70s all week. We actually opened the pool yesterday so spring is officially sprung. Yay!

What did you think of your RyGos movie? Inquiring minds want to know. 🙂

I’ve been wearing the Prune version of Le Volume lately and it’s slowly but surely turning into my number 1 crush. If you get the chance…seriously! It’s awesome.

Tabs and I just got back from our afternoon deck break. Your nephew quite enjoyed basking in the sunshine. Yay for warm weather! You should celebrate with some Chanel.

So, the RyGos movie. It was OK. He was great in it, but I felt like the movie was about 45 minutes too long. Wait for the DVD.

Have you watched anything good lately?

They look even more amazing than I expected…I wanted to just get the green and the pink but now I think I need them all. 🙂 Great look Karen…I don’t know if I can do it myself…but I will try…I have the Nars eye primer, that I just bought recently, but I’m still learning how to work it…how long after you apply it do you start putting on your eyeshadows? How long does the primer need to dry or set before we can apply the eye color? Thank you. xo, Elsa

Bauble Bar is based in NY and I am in NJ, formerly NY. I bought a bunch of necklaces from them last year, and while they look good out of the box so to speak, the “gold” and “silver” parts of the chains that go around your neck, lose their metal color and turn black–they are $10 Forever 21 quality necklaces that they charge $30 PLUS dollars for.
I say PASS on Bauble Bar. Their customer service is terrible also.
they don’t have a phone number and you can’t talk live to anyone. You have to email them and wait for a response.
they are backed by a bunch of rich socialites from NY who plan on making money by charging $30 for a $5 necklace.
    PASS!!

Moon River (and 2 of the polishes) should arrive from Nordies.com tomorrow! If that Moon River works well on my oily lids (over primer of course), I’ll want Blue Bay and Pink Lagoon as well. Thanks for swatching! You look fab, as usual!

I love the way they look against your skintone in the swatches, but I’m not too crazy about them on the eyes. Actually, being a former colorful/glittery pen hoarder back in my school days, I would REALLY just want to use these to write with… But that would be a truly expensive writing utensil!!

I think Cool Gold or Moon River. They’re both so spectacular, it’s hard to choose between them, lol. Probably Moon River–cuz I think I prefer the color of TF’s Escapade over Cool Gold.
