Dior Montaigne Spring 2011: You’ll Be a Pearl of a Girl in the City of Lights with the Soft Pink Design Quint

January 3rd, 2011 by Karen 64 Comments

Dior Montaigne Soft Pink Design

Expect a downpour at Dior this spring when the new Montaigne Collection comes to town, but you won’t need your umbrella for this storm. That’s because it’ll be pouring pearls when the 13-piece release for eyes, lips, cheeks and drips on Dior counters, in Dior stores and at Sephora in the next few weeks.

Named after the Paris address where the first Dior boutique opened back in 1946, the palette of pearly grays and baby pinks suggests spring soirees in the City of Lights, and to these soirees you’re wearing pearls. It’s a soft, sophisticated, natural look, and passersby won’t be able to miss your subtly shimmering glow.

To my eye, the Soft Pink Design Quint ($58), one of two for eyes in the release, characterizes the collection’s vibe with its nuanced pinks and grays. It comes with (almost) everything a girl would need to live the eye portion of the look — an eyeshadow base, a liner, two shimmer shadows and one glitter shadow. The only thing missing: mascara.

Below are pics and swatches showing the colors on NC35 and NW20 skin. Take a look, and let me know what ya think. 🙂

The entire Dior Montaigne collection includes

  • Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Gris-Gris #034; $58
  • Dior 5-Colour Designer Eyeshadow in Soft Pink Design #018; $58 (not at Sephora)
  • Dior Crayon Eyeliner Smoky Grey #077; $28
  • Rouge Dior Lipcolour in Spring Pink #540; $30 (not at Sephora)
  • Rouge Dior Lipcolour in Chic Pink #658; $30 (not at Sephora)
  • Dior Serum de Rouge in Pink Coral Serum #240; $32 (not at Sephora)
  • Dior Serum de Rouge in Pinky Mauve Serum #460; $32 (not at Sephora)
  • Dior Addict Ultra Gloss in Pink Veil #654; $26.50
  • Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss in Trianon Silver #707; $26.50 (Sephora Exclusive)
  • Dior Vernis in Gris Montaigne #707; $21
  • Dior Vernis in Pink Boa #349; $21 (not at Sephora)

It’s funny how there’s a season for everything, and I guess this one’s (spring) all about pearls. Luckily, I like pearls. 🙂

From what you’ve seen so far, which pearly spring release is exciting you more, Montaigne or Les Perles de Chanel?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I have a sister named Pearl! Haha, she would love this quint since she’s a fan of sheer pink eyeshadows with dark liner. The colors look so pretty in the pan!

I lovee the soft, dreamy colors in this palette. I’m actually most curious about the silver gloss in this release, I definitely love my unusual lipgloss colors xD Between this and Chanel though…I think Chanel probably wins. I just love that collection, especially the Black Pearl polish.

Silver gloss is interesting. Givenchy did one for holiday 2009 that looked like a sheer sparkle on the lips.

Hmmm… I’m going with Chanel. These shades look cute in the pan, but they seem so sheer when swatched! And okay, so sheerness can be a good thing, but I like my palettes to have at least a few more pigmented shades 😉

I have a deal with my Nordstrom Chanel S.A. – she knows of my vow of no-makeup buying this month so when she’s down to the last palette she’s going to hold it for me. Luckily she’s well stocked and feels that I should be safe till the last week of this month. Finger’s crossed, of course!

I think the focus of this one was more shimmer/sparkle. It’ll be pretty for quick washes of glitter on the lid!

Ah! Even so, I wish the liner was more opaque and that the shimmer/sparkle was more pronounced. I want as much sparkle for my dollar as possible, damn it!

I’m a sucker for that kind of colours, although I must say they look extremely better on your skin than NW20! Still tempting though, but I might try and stick to my resolution of using the makeup I already have (there are two or three gorgeous palettes I’ve never even used!) before buying more.

    At least for January. 🙂

      Hi Advah,

Sure, just let me know! She’s located North of SF (just over the Golden Gate Bridge), so maybe you can see her if you’re going to be exploring popular tourist spots in the area (Tiburon, Mill Valley) or if you’re on your way up to the Napa Wine Country. She books up pretty fast so the second you know you’re coming you’ll want to make an appointment.

I was thinking the same thing about pearls (or that maybe Chanel and Dior are doing some make-up espionage). 🙂

It’s really a pretty palette, esp since I’m a fan of pink and subtle/everyday. I think I’d give it a go if it included a tube of Dior Show. I’ve yet to try it and a small tube in this palette would have been my best incentive to buy. 🙂

        Oooh, snazzy double helix brush!

My only Faux Cils complaint is that the brush won’t stay “fluffy”. It gets matted down like a wet cat and I cringe every time I have to waste product fluffing it on a tissue. Sorry, that sounded a little whiny! Can’t wait for your 360 review!! 🙂

The shades are very pretty in the pan but that is waaay too sheer ! Not very impressed by the liner either. But they don’t usually include actual creamy liners do they ?
And I agree with what’s been said, it does look better on you than on a NW20 skin ! Which is why it’s very interesting to see both swatches =)
I think I might buy the Prisme Quatuor from Givenchy, in # Blue Collection, though it’s not exactly cheap…

      Hi Milena,

Dior’s been doing all-in-one quints with base, liner and shadows in the last couple of collections. The liners are actually pretty nice — they’re smooth and pigmented!

Givenchy shadows are so nice, plus you can’t beat their elegant packaging. 🙂
