Don’t Khol Me Crazy About This New Eye Pencil from Guerlain

July 10th, 2011 by Karen 12 Comments

I love a good taupe liner. They’re a subtle, yet still different enough, alternative to basic black and brown, and that’s why I thought I’d fall for Guerlain’s new Eye Pencil in Khol Me Jungle ($30), one of three new shades for fall (there’s also one in navy and one in ebony). Not just because it’s a delicious taupe — a dark grayish brown — but also because of its totally awesome name.

Khol Me Jungle? Seriously, isn’t that great? 🙂

Unfortunately for my taupe-lovin’ self, during application, it tugs at my skin a little, and the tip feels uncomfortably hard. It also doesn’t like to hang out long on my water line and fades away after about two hours. It manages to last about four on my lash line, but even there, it doesn’t last quite as long as I’d like.

Yes, I think the color’s versatile and gorgeous, but $30 is a lot. Considering Guerlain’s new kick-ass lipsticks, I expected a little more.

PRICE: $30
AVAILABILITY: Coming this August to Guerlain counters
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B-

I wish these high-end companies would understand that if they want us to pay a small fortune for their products, they’ve got to get the quality under control! They name is awesome, though! : )

I’m with you on this! It’s silly how they jack up the price, but not the quality. $30 for an eye pencil is quite a lot, and customers would expect the pencil to be amazing.

There are so many cheaper alternatives that still work great, so it doesn’t make sense to justify a $30 splurge for a below-average pencil.

That’s a lovely, delicate color. Too bad the quality doesn’t live up to the fairly expensive price tag!

Awe boo I hoped this would be more pigmented. Maybe it’s just this color?

Anyways I LOVE that you’re covering Guerlain now. It’s my favorite brand.

Yikes! That’s way, way too expensive for subpar performance.

Oh, that’s too bad! Definite fail on hardness and tugging. Bummer!

Too bad that pencil doesn’t last. That is the exact color I’m always looking for. Clinique has a smokey brown and a brownish black that at least stay put. They are a bit hard though. If anyone has a suggestion for a smokey brownish pencil that works please let me know.
