Estee Lauder Spring 2009 Fuchsia Now Sings with Soft Color

January 21st, 2009 by Karen 25 Comments

Like Monet’s brush strokes, Estee Lauder’s Spring 2009 Fuschia Now collection sings with soft shades of color.

Estee Lauder organized the products in this release into two camps: the Cool Pinks (purples and pinks) and the Warm Nudes (browns and beige).

For my first day of class, I wanted something light and breezy and picked four of the items from Cool Pinks to help me out.

Silky Eyeshadow Duo in Indigo, $25

I don’t wear purple eyeshadow often ’cause when I do I tend to go overboard and end up looking like Barney in high heels, gah!

But the embossed floral pattern on the Silky Eyeshadow Duo won me over. I couldn’t resist!

First thing I noticed when I started playing with the shades were the touches of frosty pearl and glitter in both the shell pink and gray purple.

Typical of Estee Lauder’s textures, the creamy consistency makes both shadows easy to apply and blend. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Mayfair Mauve Signature Lipstick, $19.50

Mayfair Mauve’s creamy pink has just a touch of purple, and like all Estee Lauder Signature Lipsticks it feels slick and moist on the lips. The light floral scent (which dissipates quickly) reminds me of booths of flowers at a farmer’s market.

I like it a lot because it’s close to my natural lip color, doesn’t have an overwhelming taste or fragrance (it’s unflavored, as a matter of fact) and gives me a pink kiss that doesn’t dominate my entire look. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Pure Color Gloss in Fresh Berry, $18

Shimmery and sheer Fresh Berry hydrates with a light fruit punch scent and doesn’t feel sticky on my lips.

When I paired it with Mayfair Mauve in the picture above, I got exactly what I wanted for school: a pretty, pink pout. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Fuchsia Nail Polish

Estee Lauder nail polishes have never graced my fingertips before, and that’s too bad because the Cool Pinks bright magenta is the hotness. It has loads of pigmentation and shine and doesn’t streak when applied.

However, it’s thick and takes forever to dry. That, and it chipped more easily than I thought an $18 nail polish would. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

Swatches from left to right: Fresh Berry Gloss, shimmery pink eyeshadow from the Indigo duo, shimmery purple eyeshadow from the Indigo duo, Mayfair Mauve Lipstick

School Daze

Well, I managed to survive the first day of class. Turns out I was *not* the oldest person there, LOL! A few of the students had some years on me.

In journalism class we were told to spontaneously write for 15 minutes about anything at all, and I ended up writing about Tabs. Surprise, surprise! Yup, I need to get out more. 🙂

How was your day? Friday sure can’t get here soon enough!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I usually pass Estee by but this is making me do a double take – the colours look amazing on you! Even I might be swayed by that purple. I’ll be keeping an eye out for it here.

So beautiful! It looks really great on you! Like the last poster, I would say I usually don’t pay much attention to Lauder releases, but this looks nice!!

You look wonderful here. I really like the consistency of the Estée Lauder lipsticks, but their smell (and the fragrance of most of their products) generally keeps me from making a purchase. I really do like how those eyeshadows look, though.

How was the first of class?

Hi Karen. I love Mayfair Mauve on you. It is gorgeous. Your FOTD truly gives a Spring feeling. I click on the Estee Lauder website and is interested in the Fleur de Lys shimmer powder. Do you have it? It looks very pretty.

Hi Karen. I think you look gorgeous here (as usual). I really like these colours. I went back to school recently, and also found out that I wasn’t the oldest one in the room, or the only one with kids. That made me feel better!

I *never* looked as pulled together as you when I was a student, and even now as a teacher I can’t say I always make the effort. I hope looking fabulous gave you the boost of confidence you needed for a great first day!

    Karen,

You look fab, as always. I have a question: did you only use the two EL eye colors on your lids? I’m curious if you achieved that gorgeous color in the crease by just blending the two.

Congrats on your first day… you are inspiring!

This is a very pretty release, and probably one of my faves from the spring collections so far. Happy Thursday!

    Hi Elena,

Thank you! 🙂 Oh, if you’re interested in the shadow — it doesn’t have a scent! It about killed me to ruin the floral pattern, though. AH, beauty is fleeting…

The first day of class was good! There were about 20 people and a good mix of students. The instructor has lots newspaper experience, and we’re going to have plenty of hands on projects. I’m stoked!

    Hi Miss QQ,

It is pretty, isn’t it? I don’t have it, though. I figure the MAC BBR MSF (gosh, it’s like another language!) is enough shimmer for me for at least a little while.

Hope you’re having a great week so far! Any exciting plans for the weekend yet?

    Hi Vanessa H.,

    Good morning! 🙂

Are you a fan of Estee Lauder? I think they do such a great job of making eye color elegant and non-intimidating.

I hope your Thursday is off to a good start.

    Hi Neen,

Yup, that’s the purple and pink blended together in the crease. I am wearing some black liner (MAC Smolder) on the upper and lower lash lines, too, with the purple smudged over it. 🙂

    Hi,
Congratulations on making it through your first day of class. You are a winner. I like that Estee Lauder spring collection. It is not over the top in style or price. The colors are very flattering on you. Have you seen the Lancome sprink collection yet? They are also featuring a lot of pink, especially in the eyeshadow department. I scored bigtime yesterday at BBW. They had $23 Vincent Longo lipsticks on sale for 90% off. Yes, you read right. I paid $2.30 for each lipstick. I was reasonable and only bought three. Today I had to take Petey the Cairn Terrier for his yearly check-up. The vet told us that he was in excellent shape. It’s no wonder considering that he lives the life of luxury!! Well, you keep on keeping on. Do that writing because you have skills. We all look forward to reading what you write everyday. Louise

    Hey Karen!!

Glad you had a great first day back! 🙂

The colors are so pretty on you. Do any of the colors in this collection resemble what was in the Holiday collection (the big black box)?

I am searching high and low for a review of the fleur de lys shimmer powder. If someone has bought it, kindly review it here too. Thank you.

I think the pink can be duped from the blockbuster pink ice and the indigo maybe from ameythst?
