The New Joy to the Girls Palette by Too Faced Cosmetics Sings Songs of Girly Glam for the Holidays

October 8th, 2013 by Karen 18 Comments

Too Faced Joy to the Girls
Wearing the Joy to the Girls palette on my eyes, new from Too Faced Cosmetics ($46)

Hark! The herald beauty angels sing…

Joy to the girls, it’s time to play!
Let eyes receive shadow! 🙂

I do believe that Too Faced Cosmetics is on to something with the name of their new holiday palette, Joy to the Girls.

Makeup-themed Christmas carols.

BOOM!

Too Faced Joy to the Girls Box
So cute, right? The packaging was designed by celebrity decorator Mary McDonald.

Picture it — you, Tabs and I standing on the neighbor’s doorstep in matching chunky knit sweaters with matching caps (because Team Tabs is all about accessories), while we sing about our love of cat eyeliner and blending brushes.

(I’m an alto, BTW, so you and Tabs will have to cover the high parts.)

On our eyes, Joy to the Girls.

A peek inside the palette…

Three step-by-step eye makeup tutorials for weekday, weekend and party looks…

Recently released for the holidays, it comes equipped for yuletide fun with 15 pans of powder eyeshadow in matte, shimmer and glitter finishes. There’s also a full-sized LashGASM Mascara, and three sets of step-by-step instructions for different looks.

A closer look at the eyeshadows…

Everything about this palette feels like classic Too Faced Cosmetics to me — girly and very glam. Nothing too hard-edged or harsh.

The gal I see going really gaga for Joy to the Girls always has her hair coiffed, her nails did, and she perfectly coordinates her outfits with luxurious shiny baubles.

Where the A Few of My Favorite Things palette has spunky pops of bright color, Joy to the Girls plays it safer with a heavy reliance on neutrals, a light dusting of smokey purples and grays, and a drizzle of pastels.

It seems so delicate and feminine to me.

If your style decisions are inspired by afternoon tea and cucumber sandwiches, this might be right up your alley, but if you lean more toward the mosh pit, you’ll probably want to pass.

Like I do with the shadows in A Few of My Favorite Things, I notice a wee bit of fallout from these high-shine shimmers and glitters (but not really from the mattes). You might want to do your eyes first, clean up whatever lands on your cheeks and beneath your eyes, and finish up with the rest of your makeup.

I do like the collection of colors and finishes, so I can deal with the fallout in this case — it’s not a deal-breaker for me — and tapping my brushes before applying definitely helps.

Just something to keep in mind.

Yes! You don’t even have to wrap it… just put a bow on it. 🙂

Wow Karen! I could have never put this look together, I love it. I always intend to get more creative with my shadows though when I apply them I seem to just stuck. Also, love that lip shade on you! xo

      Hi Taylor,

You can do it! I basically just followed the directions for the Party Time look. 🙂

Hope you’re doing well. Are you having a nice fall so far?

    Hi Karen,

This is such a cute palette, and the shadows look beautiful on you! Did you notice fall out with Prancer? It looks very glittery in the swatch.

I was shocked at the size of the palette – it’s like a giant hymn book! You’ve done a beautiful eye look with it, btw. I really like the gold! 🙂

That palette is huge! I’m glad you had your hand in there for comparison, because I did not expect it to be so big.

This is really pretty and definitely classic Too Faced but it doesn’t really knock my socks enough for me to want to purchase. It looks great for classic looks with maybe a little extra oomph though.

If it wasn’t for the look you created I wouldn’t have even looked at the swatches lol. It’s seriously pretty!! The palette looks boring and like it wouldn’t suit me but those swatches might have changed my mind. I’ll have to check this out in Sephora next time I go!
