Guys and Gals Get Clean with Dirty, Lush’s Latest Launch

May 25th, 2011 by Karen 42 Comments

lush dirty all closed

Never have I been so excited to get dirty! 🙂

Wait — did that sound pervy? I’m actually talking about a new line of unisex hair and body products from Lush.

Available now at Lush stores and also online, the four-piece Dirty collection features stuff to cleanse, smooth and style both you and your boo.

The collection includes…

  • Dirty Springwash Shower Gel
  • Dirty Shaving Cream
  • Dirty Hair Styling Cream
  • Dirty Body Spray

lush dirty all open

Lush had fun with these fragrances, creating for each product a unique scent that not only stands on its own, but also complements the others in the release. Since all four of the products are designed for guys AND gals, I roped El Hub into trying two of them (you’re such a good sport, sweetie!).

Dirty Springwash Shower Gel

El Hub and I both like this salty spearmint-scented gel so much that we’re fighting over who gets the rest! El Hub says it’s one of the best shower gels he’s used in years because it removes oils from his skin and hair but doesn’t strip them bare. It also builds into a nice lather yet remains easy to rinse. I like how it doesn’t leave a film behind, and I adore the fresh, crisp scent. If you’re planning frequent sleepovers at your honey’s house, this might be nice to have in the shower. $9.95 for a 3.3-oz. bottle, $17.95 for 8.4 oz., $26.95 for 16.9 oz.. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

Dirty Shaving Cream

El Hub tried it on his face; I tried it on my ‘pits. Neither of us like it much, despite the soothing oat, lavender and sandalwood scent. The fact that it doesn’t build into a lather or foam means you have to use a lot. El says his shaves with it kinda hurt, which he thought could be due to the absence of aloe or menthol, which many other shave creams contain. Both of us also dislike the thick, greasy residue it leaves behind, but we do like the scent. $12.95 for a 3.5-oz tub. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B-

Dirty Body Spray

Literally a spray for dirty bodies, LOL! Lush says you can use it to simulate a real “shower” when you’re running behind. I don’t know about that, but I sure like the minty thyme and tarragon scent. It’s invigorating, and the fragrance lasts all day long. As for the spray bottle? To die! It covers a wide area with a very fine mist and gets my entire bod in a single spritz. El Hub, who describes most of the scents I wear as “old lady,” “stinky,” or “I like it because it smells like oranges” actually approves. With it on, I think I smell like a girlish boy…or a boyish girl. $12.95 for a 3.5-oz. bottle. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

Dirty Hair Styling Cream

El Hub’s idea of hair styling involves wetting down the cowlick in his hair, so he didn’t try this firm hold cream. I used it to style my bangs, where it works well while smoothing and adding shine without crunch. But it’s very hard to remove, taking at least two washes with shampoo. Despite containing coconut oil, it has a vaguely herbal scent. $19.95 for 5.9oz. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B

By far the weirdest 31 seconds of my day

Speaking of girlish boys, pop star Justin Bieber’s releasing a new limited edition fragrance called Someday, and the commercial’s weird as hell!

I don’t even know where to start — that leather hoodie, the magical purple flying high tops, Beebs’ pained smile as he piggybacks a Quinn Fabray look-a-like through the sky. Watching it I feel like I just ate a plate of the “special brownies” my brother’s stoner ex-band mates used to make.

Anywho, that pretty much sums up my day, LOL! 🙂 How was your Wednesday? Anything new to report?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

My Wednesday felt LONG. That could be because I haven’t slept since Monday night, though.

That fragrance commercial is a little disturbing to me! I felt all weirded out watching it.

My Wednesday was ok – my husband took the ASVAB test this evening & is getting evaluated tomorrow to see if he can join the Navy reserves (he’s almost 37 and this is a life long dream of his). I’m on pins & needles til I hear from him tomorrow! The Navy put him up at a hotel overnight since the process starts super early in the morning.

      Hey Steph,

The commercial cracks me up! It’s like a bad 31-second trip.

Anywho, did you get any news from your hubby yet? What does “ASVAB” stand for?

BTW — my dad was in the Navy!

ASVAB stands for Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery. It’s a standardized test that measures your educational strengths & weaknesses to help guide you to pick a career that would be a good fit. I actually took it when I was in 8th grade!

No word from yet…he’s currently in career counseling to see what jobs are available that he’d be interested in and then he’ll have one last background interview. I’m nervous!!

My dad was in the Navy too! What did your dad do? Mine was an engineer of some sort & was assigned to a particular pilot & plane, which he had his name painted on!

Unlike the Jbeibs fragrance, I’m interested in the Dirty Body Spray. It seems right up my ally girl, i’m a fan of boyfriend scents.

My Wednesday’s gone pretty well. I did a new client’s makeup today for the first time, and I have to say I’m pretty proud of the way it turned out. AND my dad said he liked my eyebrows, which in Dad language is pretty much “DAAAAME GIRL, YOU LOOK GOOD.” lols

LOL, my fiancé says “icky” and “stinky” almost everytime I try a new scent! I guess it’s only typical 😀 As for the ad, there’s a reason why I hate that Bieber boy and it explains that reason really well. Anyway, my wednesday was ok I guess. It involved not much action (because I’m going thru an allergy test) but home-made meatballs and a green salad, yum!

Guys are so funny! I think if they don’t wear cologne or perfume they don’t really have the vocab to describe scents, so they end up saying stuff like, “This smells grandma-ish,” rather than, “I find the rose notes cloying,” LOL! Gotta love ’em.

Oooh… what’s your home-made meatball recipe? I tried to make turkey meatballs a couple months ago and it was a disaster. They ended up more like meat nuggets.

Luckily, he will be, but he’s leaving at the end of August/early September for another two months. I’m tempted to go down to the State Dept. and yell at them until they stop stealing him away so frequently. I’m sure they’d do as I asked and not, you know, arrest me, lol.

We still make it work. He works insane hours (last time it was 8am-12am M-F and 12pm-12am Sat and Sun with breaks for food and exercise), but he’ll wake up early or stay up to video chat at least once a week. I still wish he could stay, though!

Hey, the Biebs got a haircut – you can tell how up on pop culture I am. 🙂 Yeah, the commercial is a little Neverland but, you know, kids these days. 😉 On a more mature note, the Lush body wash sounds interesting. It’s hella pricey, though. Maybe for a fun splurge.

Oh, we’ve had some “teachable” moments over the Biebs. They make fun of him and say they hate his music. I have to remind them that tearing others down is very wrong, esp when it’s just repeating what older kids at school say. We’ve talked about how jealousy can make people say mean things. Also, you may not care for someone’s music, but you should respect how hard they work and that they have challenges in their lives, too. It’s like a darn after-school special! HAHA! They’ve been better but it makes me sad to hear them say negative things about someone they don’t even know. They have good hearts, though. They just need some gentle reminders sometimes. 🙂
