I’m Matte About Make Up For Ever La Bohème Aqua Eyes in Gypsy

February 7th, 2012 by Karen 28 Comments

Why, yes. The silky smooth texture and all-day wear time (both on my lash and water lines) of Make Up For Ever’s new $18 Aqua Eyes in Gypsy are rocking my hot pink argyle socks off, but that’s not what I love most about this limited edition liner.

The fresh brewed coffee color of this rich matte brown makes it neutral enough to work with the cool and warm colors in my shadow stash, and I think that’s pretty sweet. Greens, blues, golds, bronzes, beiges and even purples — Gypsy digs ’em all — and it even works well as a base for smokey eye looks with black and/or gray.

While it may not win the award for Flashiest Color on the Block, I love Gypsy’s flexibility. It’s a real workhorse shade that I can see myself working into my everyday makeup routine.

PRICE: $18

Now where’d I put my rain boots?

Oh, winter! Just when I thought you took an early hiatus, you send over these gray rain clouds to torment me?

How rude. 🙂

This is kind of random, but did you happen to catch The Voice last night? I didn’t really watch it much last season, but I’m getting into it now. Those blind auditions put an interesting twist on the whole process, don’t you think? They really spotlight the people with a lot of training and experience.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oh, I love a brown eye liner that doesn’t have too warm a tone to it. It’s a much softer look with all shadow colors instead of black.

I watched The Voice last night, too, and really love it. It’s nice to have people picked based on singing ability, since it’s, you know, a SINGING competition.

And, bless Christina Aguilerra’s heart, she’s an amazing talent, but girlfriend needs to tone it WAY down — between the hair, the makeup, the cleavage, the attitude, girlfriend – PLEASE!

LOL… yeah, Christina’s definitely got her own unique sense of style. I gotta hand it to her for rocking bold lips, though. She carries those brights quite well!

Did you watch the entire episode? I caught mostly the second half. I quite enjoyed that one contestant’s version of Chaka’s Tell Me Something Good. It takes a big voice to pull that off.

I watched a few minutes of it and thought it was just okay. There was some great singing, but I felt like they were pushing the story too quickly and not taking time to build characters (my pet peeve). Anywho, I know so many people who love House! I still haven’t seen it yet. One of these days…

ive been a fan of House since day one. 🙂 there are shows that can sit in the DVR for a while and wait til i have time to watch it, but i always watch House the night it airs.

im going to give Smash a few episodes, then decide. im doing the same thing for Alcatraz – its ok but not compelling enough for me to keep watching it. 🙂

It seems like House fans are really, REALLY devoted to the show. I’ll have to put it on my ever-growing list of shows!

Kim (from the comments!) told me about Alcatraz a while back. I keep meaning to watch it but keep forgetting. Will have to make a note to put that on the list to DVR that, too.

You know what show I just started watching and really enjoy? Scrubs! It’s a little cheesy, but it’s very enjoyable.

There’s always room for another dark brown eyeliner in my collection! I also love the look of the eyeshadow palette. It’s really cute. 🙂

      Yes, there’s always plenty of room… especially when it’s a long-wearing one!

That liner is really pigmented – nice!

Nope, I didn’t catch The Voice. Last season, I saw a few episodes, so I’ll probably watch a little this time around. It’s refreshing to see people being judged on their voice instead of the way they look first. 🙂

Yup, so pigmented. The Aqua liners in general are all that way, which is nice!

I like Gypsy! It’s weird how when you already own a couple of brown eyeliners, you still see one (or more) that you want because it’s totally different! I can only use pencil liners for my lower lash line though (I have monolids so on my upper lash line they will definitely smudge), so it takes me forever to finish one!

So true! Do you have Urban Decay in your neck of the woods? They make a really great brown called Bourbon that you might like.

Thanks for the review Karen! Is it similar to Urban Decay’s Demolition liner?

      Hi Alma,

Here’s a comparison. That’s Demolition on the top and Gypsy on the bottom.

      HTH!

If anyone was/is thinking about buying any of thr Dolce and Gabbana charm lip and eye pencils; you should know you can save a few ( or in my case ALOT), of cash by ordering from the San Francisco Saks counter. They are $29.00 each! Not $33.00 like the website. The number is 415-986-4300.

It’s gorgeous, especially if you like the look of shiny, glowy eyeshadow.

Are you a MUFE fan, Jana?

I love eyeliners that you can’t really put a name of a color to. Gypsy looks brown, maroon, red all at once. Love it!
