Is Cargo Triple Action Mascara an Eyelash Triple Threat?

October 5th, 2010 by Karen 30 Comments

cargo triple action mascara review

Cargo doesn’t get enough love… That’s what I’ve always thought. They’re like an actress who you KNOW deserves top billing in big blockbusters but keeps getting saddled with bit parts in movies that go straight to DVD.

And I swear to Tabs they have my house bugged! It’s like they’re watching me rush in the mornings because so many of their products are designed to save time, like their new Triple Action Mascara ($20, available in a single shade called Black).

New for fall, it’s supposed to do it all, a regular triple threat, able to thicken, lengthen AND curl. Yes, actually curl, or so they claim, like a lash curler.

Is that even possible??

Cargo says it is, thanks to “advanced pigment and styling polymer technology!” — and a special brush.

I’m the type of gal who’ll use multiple mascaras to get a great lash look, but I’m not married to the idea. If a single mascara really could do it all, I’d definitely prefer that (hallelujah!).

I graced my thin, stick-straight, average-length lashes with Triple Action a lot last weekend, and wouldn’t ya know it? My beloved Cargo just didn’t come through (this time).

I like the shade (it’s black; what’s not to like?) and the smooth, lump-free formula, but honestly, that’s about it.

Because Cargo claims it curls, I tried it sans lash curler and only saw the slightest, almost imperceptible change in curl. As for thickness and length, there wasn’t much of those either.

By the end of the days I’d worn Triple Action, my lower lashline was a smudgy mess. I’m talking “please don’t feed the raccoon!” Boo! 🙁

Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: I had high hopes for Cargo Triple Action based on past great luck with the brand, but this time I think they’re only average (and comparable to a decent drugstore mascara). Available at Ulta and ulta.com. Grade: C

For kitty Christmas lists…

Thank you, Applepark, for sending me this and for MAKING MY DAY!

I wonder if Tabs will fit into one of these… He’s a little on the girthy side, so it’s hard to say.

Prices vary by playhouse ($19.99-24.99), ha! Yup, I guess tanks do cost a little more than firetrucks. Available at ThinkGeek.com.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oh, Linus! He might not be petite and dainty, but there’s a lot of him to love.

I’m cuddling Tabs right now! He’s been acting like such a weirdo — one minute he loves me, the next he loathes me. He can’t seem to make up his mind, LOL!

Love the kitty toys! Too cute! Too bad about the Cargo mascara. I love mascaras and am always on the lookout for fabulous mascaras. Sounds like this one is not going to make my wishlist! Thanks for sharing!

You know, I find the best curling mascaras to be the ones that dont say anything about curling! I immediately stay away from mascaras that make that claim

I picked it up at a random store in Milan last week. 🙂 I’m not usually a cuff kinda girl, but this one really moved me.

How was your day? Mine went by fast!

Awww I love the play houses for Tabs!
    Sad about the mascara.

I’m not sure if you ever try mascara primers? I’ve been getting great results with Hard Candy 1000 Lashes + Flirt! It Curls mascara. Though I have started loving mascara in general since I started using primers.

tUnfortch the ones I’ve tried seem to loosen the curl and make my lashes feel crispy. Does the Hard Candy primer hold the curl well?

Aww that’s a shame the mascara was average. I really like the sample I have of CARGO’s Lash Activator though – have you tried that? And I agree they are under-rated. Their blushes and lipgloss are some of my faves.

    And that cuff is AWESOME.

I haven’t tired the Lash Activator! Hopefully I can give it a run soon.

Do you like the Cargo quads? I think they’re amazing!

Oh, that’s disappointing about the mascara. However, excellent work making us feel loads better with those sweet kitty playhouses. Totally cute! Though, knowing my gals, they’d never get near them and would choose to play in the box they arrived in!! 🙂

I’ve been tempted to buy the little kitty tank for a good two years for Aisha and Tigger, but I don’t know if they’d like it. I can barely even get Aisha to use the scratching post! Tigger is more of an explorer, so he might like it, but Aisha would probably just sniff it and then walk away, lol!

I too hoped to gain alot from the mascara but also ended up looking like a racoon. Only think that stopped this was Clarins Lash fix 🙁 Great review!
