Is Laura Mercier on the Right Track with These Shimmery Gel Lip and Baked Eye Colours?

March 29th, 2011 by Karen 31 Comments

My fellow travelers on the Laura Mercier Silk Road (isn’t that collection smokin’ hot?), care to pull over to the side for a sec? I can’t resist the sparkle from LM’s newest lines much longer!

Fresh out of the oven, the two new lines arrive just in time to add some shimmer to lips and eyes this spring. Eyes will glisten wearing the sparkling shades in Laura’s new line of Baked Eye Colours, while lips will shine showcasing the new Gel Lip Colours ($22 each).

Baked Eye Colours ($22 each)

Are these tardy to the baked eyeshadow party or just fashionably late? Department store lines have been doing the baked thing for years, but I think there’s still some good stuff here. I’ve been wearing Lagoon, a bright teal, both wet and dry. It exhibits a minor amount of fallout, but it’s not bad at all when worn with a sticky base like MAC Cream Colour Base in Pearl.

Added pluses: they’re easy to blend and feel lightweight on my lids. The $22 kinda hurts, but if you like baked shadows in wearable colors, consider one of these six work-friendly shades.

Gel Lip Colours (also $22 each)

Smooove describes this new limited edition line of six lippies. Their slick, high-shine gel formula is packed with pigment. The color I tried, a brick red called sweet cherry, has a strong vanilla scent and taste that hits me right away. It reminds me of animal crackers (weird, I know). Unfortunately, it doesn’t last long at all — only about an hour — but, MAN! It’s crazy moisturizing.

The Baked Eye Colours are available now at Laura Mercier counters and also online, but the Gel Lip Colours start sparkling on counters next month (they are available online, though).

Laura fans, see anything you like?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oh, I know. Laura’s stuff tends to be $$… I try to get my staples on sale when the Sephora Friends & Family sale hits.

What do you like most from Laura Mercier’s line? I love the tinted moisturizer but I don’t know what other products work really well. I tried the eye primer and that creased like crazy on me.

It’s not too bad if you use a firm eyeshadow brush and a sticky base. 🙂

Too expensive. I need to use these 88 palettes before I buy anymore shadow. This addiction is horrible.

I have enough eyeshadow to last me 10 lifetimes so I’m holding off on that for a bit. I looove the way the lippie looks though. I don’t really care about how long lasting lip products are because I’m a chronic re-applier anyway. I’m addicted to putting on lip products ( I just like the way they feel gliding across my lips, weird, I know. It goes back to when I was a little girl applying lip balm) so the limited wear time could be a plus for me. Haha!

I like how lippies feel gliding across my lips, too. I’m constantly rubbing my lips together… bad habit, I know. 🙂

Such a pretty eye colour! I’m so glad I’ve learned to use my shadows wet more often to get more of a punch of colour.

      Hi Sarah,

It’s a great trick, isn’t it? What do you like to wet your brushes with? I use MAC Fix+.

Alright, so the first photo of Tabs absolutely made. my. day. He is *such* a cutie!

I’d be loving the look of that baked shadow if it wasn’t so pricy, but… I don’t know, LM. When d/s companies like Maybelline are doing just as good of a job with baked shadows at under $10, it’s hard to justify $22!

Oh my goodness that pic of Tabs is so cute. Look at his little paws! My cat just would not cut it as a kitty model, she’s a biter and does not take direction well, there is much she can learn from the Tabster!

The eye and lip colour look gorgeous on you Karen. I am tempted by the eyeshadow…

Hello. I’ve been reading for a few weeks now, but had to leave my first comment today… I am loving these baked shadows! My fav is the Black Karot, very pretty and unique color… and ballet pink. I love how they can be worn sheer or with more pigment. On a side note, I love this blog, thank you so much! : )

On an seperate note, not a huge fan of baked eyeshadows in general – but if you reccomend these I would give them a try!
