Is the New MAC Antique Diamond Pro Longwear Paint Pot a Dupe for Benefit Skinny Jeans?

February 13th, 2013 by Karen 8 Comments

Wearing the new MAC Antique Diamond Pro Longwear Paint Pot ($18.50), a frosted silvery olive green, on my lids

My first thought when I saw MAC’s new Antique Diamond Pro Longwear Paint Pot?

Skinny Jeans. Benefit Skinny Jeans, because like my beloved Skinny Jeans cream shadow, Antique Diamond also has that grayish khaki thang going on.

But yeah…that’s just about where the similarities end. As soon as I got Antique Diamond on my lids, I could see that it wasn’t a lot like Skinny Jeans. I think both shadows are fab, but they are very, very different.

Olive green Antique Diamond looks lighter, cooler toned and shinier to me (hello, frosty finish!). Like, in trying to think of the inspiration behind it, I’m thinkin’…frozen lichen on the side of a tree on a sunny winter’s day?

Whatev, I like it. 🙂

Doesn’t it seem more delicate than Skinny Jeans? Could have something to do with Antique Diamond’s fine flecks of silver glitter.

Don’t get me wrong — I love Skinny Jeans. I just think Antique Diamond is a little daintier, like if Skinny Jeans were motorcycle boots, Antique Diamond would be a pair of kitten heels.

I’ll usually pat a layer on my lids with a finger, and then, to offload a little of the color, buff it down by gently running a MAC 217 all over the lid, leaving behind an almost transparent tint of cool olive green (so pretty!) loaded with silver shimmer.

And it lasts from that first bite of French toast at breakfast till that last piece of pizza at night…

(Yes, someone’s hungry for junk food right now.)

If there’s one thing Antique Diamond does it’s sparkle, and it should on just about everyone, but I bet it would really sparkle on cool-toned cuties with brown eyes.

MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A

Um…Valentine’s Day is three hours away, and I have yet to get a card for El Hub.

I also wanted to get him a little present, but I have NO IDEAS! Maybe if I wander around Best Buy aimlessly tomorrow morning, someone there will take pity on me and recommend the right gizmo that says, “I love you.”

Or, I could get him a tortie kitty. 🙂

What do you think? Would a tortie kitty make a good Valentine’s Day gift for El Hub and Tabs (please say yes)?

Okay, time for this gal to get to bed, but before I hit the haaay, I have time for one more episode of my latest TV obsession, Portlandia.

Gawd that show’s hilarious. But so, so weird!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I would want a tortie kitty for Valentine’s Day!

I don’t think my fiance and I are exchanging gifts – just going out for dinner.

They would look great layered together-Antique diamond all over and Skinny Jeans on the outer corner! I also love wearing Skinny Jeans as a liner (actually I use it more as a liner than a shadow!!)

A big YES to a tortie kitty :).

I like how this one looks, though if I HAD to choose I’d probably go with Skinny Jeans. Now come to think of it I should take it out and give it some love 😉

Oh, totally on the tortie kitty gift. Whenever there is an occasion or my boys do something noteworthy, my friend says “Tell the boys Aunt Kelly is so proud of them. I’m going to give each of them a cat!”. HAHA! And Tabs has really warmed up to Marmalade! 🙂

Portlandia makes me laugh, too. I’ve only seen a few eps but they’re always funny.

I was in the same boat for Valentine’s Day and picked up a last minute card and some dark chocolate/mint truffle-things. You can’t go wrong with candy on Valentine’s Day, right?

I like the analogy of Antique Diamond being like a pair of kitten heels. 🙂 It’s a pretty color, but I agree it might work better on cool toned skin.

I’ve been sick the past few days, so I haven’t given much thought to V-Day. I’m planning on celebrating this weekend by making some red velvet cupcakes. 🙂

A Tortie kitty! Definitely a Tortie kitty! My daughter would LOVE a kitten, but it would not fly in my house though. Sam and Mags are two grumpy old Diva cats that would not appreciate a whipper snapper upstaging them.

I actually like the MAC color much better! It is daintier, prettier – more delicate but still with that edge!
