It Takes You to Make the New Givenchy Les Ombres de Lune Palette Go Right

July 20th, 2011 by Karen 58 Comments

Givenchy Les Ombres de Lune

One thing Givenchy limited edition makeup releases have never been lacking is style. Whether it’s a pan of powder embossed with an intricate floral pattern or a palette with clean, understated lines, Givenchy understands the words “special” and “fancy.”

Whenever I see Givenchy on a counter or dressing table, I’m almost guaranteed to utter “oohs” and “aahs.” Just like when Alcide bares his chest on True Blood, the visuals are just too dang good. 🙂

Performance-wise, the products may hit or miss, but they are quite capable of knocking it out of the park. When it comes to their two new Les Ombres de Lune Shadow & Light Eyes palettes ($58 each) for fall, color my smokey eyes impressed.

Each of the two new face and eye palettes comes with two powder products — a darker eyeshadow for use as a shadow or liner, and a shimmery highlighting powder for the eyes, cheeks and face. I’ve been alternating between the two of them, Les Lune Mysterieuse and Les Lune Mordoree, for the past week, and both have been fantastic for giving skin a glow and creating quick smokey eyes.

Lune Mordoree palette

  • A shimmery, cool-toned lemony chiffon gold
  • A cool sapphire blue with black undertones and subtle shimmer

Lune Mysterieuse palette

  • A frosty neutral beige
  • An ebony black with a subtle shimmer

Shoot, I thought the Velvet Eyeshadows from Benefit’s Maggie and Annie kits were soft, but these powders are even softer. They’re like snuggling with silky, blue-eyed, baby ragdoll kittens (awww).

And they’re right on point when it comes to performance, too, flawlessly blending with intense pigments, but no creasing, fading or fallout to hold them back.

Givenchy, like Chanel and Dior, demands a premium for their products, so, yes, this fabulousness does come at a hefty $58 price. Hopefully, they’re still available during the next Sephora Friends and Family sale (20% off brings the price down to $46.40).

PRICE: $58 each
AVAILABILITY: Coming soon to Sephora stores and Sephora.com
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+ (expensive, but they rise to the occasion with functional, wearable colors perfect for use all year long)

Dinner of champions!

El Hub has to work late tonight, which means I’m free to eat fro-yo for dinner (YES!) and to watch Tivo’d Golden Girls reruns.

I also have to wrap a gift for my friend’s baby shower on Saturday. Hmm… I hear Target calling. I might opt for the cute gift bag/tissue paper combo instead.

In random music news, have you been hearing more Michael McDonald than usual? Or is that just me? I think something’s afoot… It seems like every time I turn on my favorite easy listening station (“Light rock, less talk”), homeboy’s mumbling something.

I swear I can’t understand a word that man says… 🙂

Enunciate, man!

Major ups if you can decode what he’s singing (without having to Google the lyrics).

Anywho, how YOU doin’?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I always go the “cute bag/tissue paper” route! Always! I can’t wrap presents to save my life o_O

Yay frozen yogurt for dinner! I like to mix fresh berries in with it and sometimes granola if I’m feeling adventurous 😉

And Golden Girls is the bomb (“Thank you for being a friend…”)! It used to be my favorite show when I was a little kid. And now I realize that it was highly inappropriate for me to watch at the age and wonder who let me get away with it…

Haha, I thought I was the only one who watched Golden Girls as a kid! And the funny thing was I always watched it when my parents and I went over to their older friend’s house. The guy would give my brother and I prunes to eat as we watched the show! It’s funny/weird when I look back now.

And haha, when I watched the Golden Girls as a kid I missed so many of the references! Now when I watch the re-runs… they’re kinda racy, LOL!

Thanks to you I now have It Takes Two stuck in my head….

I know what you mean about enunciating during singing. Another big offender is Michael Stipe of REM. I’m a huge megafan of their music, but what in the world are the lyrics? Radio Free Europe, anyone?

Speaking of LOTR, I’ve always wanted a palette named “My Precious.”

I don’t mind the melody and beat of that song! It drives me nuts how he mumbles, though. What’s he singing about? I can’t make any words out in the first 30 seconds at all.

That is so funny! It was on an old mixed tape that I really liked, which is why I think I still like it. Of course, now every time I hear the song I’ll be laughing – while thinking “mumble, mumble, mumble”. HAHA! And, I do agree, what I can make out of the lyrics makes very little sense. I think he has to mumble because if we understood what he was singing, we’d be like “What? That’s just a random string of words!”. 🙂

I haven’t tried anything by Givenchy other than their perfumes, which I love. I want to check out that palette with the colorful squares that look like candy…

Just reading that typed out made me LOLZ again. I think it’s “I’mmo be there”. Or maybe there is a guy out there named Yamo who is, in fact, always there.

My favorite is definitely Ange ou Demon Le Secret. It doesn’t last very long on me, but it is all sorts of yum when wear it (helps that the bf loves it too, but I liked it before I met him, so eh). I normally never finish my perfumes, but I just got this last year and I’m already down to a few last sprtizes.

El Hub and I went to the farmers’ market and kept joking about how Yamo was supposed to be there.

“Did you hear from Yamo? He said he was gonna be there.”

“I dunno, I think it’s kind of rude that Yamo just shows up. I heard he wasn’t even invited!”

It went on for way too long.

Wait, is this the BF who’s fam you just met?

Also – On your main page I see you posing with a surfboard. Do you surf? Super cute board! What’s the length? I’m about to transition from a 6′ 8″ to a 6′ 2″.

      Hi Rachel,

I do! I don’t get to do it as often as I like, though. I’ve tried surfing up here in Nor Cal, but it’s just too cold for me and I hate having to wear a wetsuit (makes me feel like a sausage). Last time I went was in November when I was in Hawaii visiting family.

Anywho, I’m a longboarder, and I’m not very good at it, LOL! I stand up, maybe do a turn or two to avoid crashing into people, and then I fall down.
