This Desert Rose Comes in Pink: The Marvelously Moisturizing, Long-Lasting Le Metier de Beaute Colour Core Lipstick in Fiji

Friggin’ flakes and dry lips! You’re always messing with my lipstick master plans. Like last week, what was up with that? You knew I wanted to wear MAC Vegas Volt all week long — when in Rome, right? — so what happened? Why you go and do me like that?

The heavy-duty casino air conditioning and parched Nevada desert wreaked havoc on my lips. To make matters worse, I wasn’t drinking nearly enough water.

My lips were flakier than that roommate I had in sophomore year who never paid her share of the telephone bill, and yes, I’m showing my age. Back before everyone had cell phones, people actually used to share a land line.

I know, crazy stuff. 🙂

Much as I love Vegas Volt and wanted to wear it nonstop last week in the desert, MAC’s Amplified Creme lipstick formula isn’t exactly hydrating. I knew I’d need a lippie with more moisture. Much more, like Le Metier de Beaute’s Color Core Moisture Stain Lipstick in Fiji ($32).

Le Metier de Beaute Colour Core Moisture Stain Lipstick in Fiji

An opaque warm pink with a cream finish, Fiji is one of 26 permanent shades in Le Métier’s Colour Core Moisture Stain Lipstick line.

Wear time like whoa!

This was my first rodeo with this particular family of lippies, and based on Fiji, it won’t be my last. Because I love it. It lasts a whopping 4-5 hours and delivers more moisture than a raging river.

It’s all about the shoes texture

When I think of moisturizing lipsticks, slick and slippery textures that are very thin come to mind, but this one feels thicker on my lips, like a creme or a semi-matte lipstick. I think it helps with the wear time, pushing it past the 2-3 hour mark that’s typical of lipsticks billed as moisturizing.

Le Metier de Beaute Fiji

A modern lip look

My favorite thing about it — next to the color and moisture, of course 🙂 — is how it fades evenly, gracefully, into a semi-matte stain over the course of the day. I like it. It seems…modern, and I think it’s just plain gorgeous.

Watch out for…

If you happen to pick it up in a store, a word of caution — you might want to open the box and take a close look at it before walking away from the counter. When I opened mine for the first time, I saw that the tip was smooshed, boo!

I hate to knit-pick, but for $32…I don’t want smooshed.

The final word

Other than the smooshing, I love, love, LOVE Fiji. Its long-lasting, moisture-packed opaque formula kept my parched pout happy in the desert for days.

It’s a wonderfully low-maintenance lippie, and now I’ve got the itch to start collecting other colors in the line, you know, because I really need another lipstick in my makeup bag, LOL!

PRICE: $32
AVAILABILITY: Available now in the permanent collection at Le Métier de Beauté counters at Neiman Marcus stores, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstrom and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A-

The core issue here…

Go grease lightning! Okay, not really…

…is that my core is, like, totally non-existent. I’m core-less. I can barely do one sit-up without feeling faint.

Okay, well, it’s not quite that bad, but close.

Have you heard of the Beach Body DVD’s? I’ve been wanting to include some core work in my workouts, and last week, out of the blue, I happened to start chatting with someone who recommended Shaun T’s Beach Body Focus T25 DVD Workout.

It gets pretty good ratings on amazon.com, but it’s $95 (yikes!).

If you’ve ever tried it before, lemme know what you think. I need something to spice up my workouts and spark my motivation again…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I was waiting for this and yay for the positive review! It looks like I’ll be picking up Fiji next time because everything sounds pretty much perfect :). I don’t think I own a pink like this yet. It looks great for a lot of make-up looks!

Hey Karen, Fiji looks GREAT on you! I’ve tried some stuff from LMdB, but not yet a lipstick! I suppose I’m waiting for the right shade to come along! Maybe I’ll pick up something bold for autumn/winter 🙂

This specific color is too light for me but I’m ALWAYS on the look out for a moisturizing lipstick. I may have to go check out the range! I used to love Chanel Aqualumieres but of course they took those away from me. Is there any SPF to it?

      Hi Leah,

Luckily there are lots of colors to choose from in the range. 🙂 If you find any good ones please let me know. As far as SPF, I don’t think it has it. Maybe layer your fave colorless lip balm with SPF underneath it?

I’m dying to know if you’ve had the baby yet! I hope that everything went smoothly.

I’ve just started to pick it up again, but I recommend Nike Training Club on the iPhone. It’s a free app that has loads of workouts. You tell it what your goal is (e.g., get lean, get strong, etc.) but also you can target specific areas like your core. 🙂

It’s pretty challenging but it’s easy to follow because they count you down at the end of each exercise.

Does this have any scent? Any lippie that’s not moisturizing is automatically drying for me, so this sounds amazing!

Hmm…I’ve never tried LMdB but if their moisturizing lippies last for 5 hours, they have to be a must-try.

Have you tried any of the ballet-inspired workout videos? I’m actually not a fan of ballet (As awe-inspiring and gorgeous as the dance is, I find going to actual ballets boring and the dance itself too restrictive). However, I really love the workouts inspired by the dance.

No dance background is necessary and a lot of it has to do with core work–both your abs and your back. It’s challenging and variable so I’m not bored.

I really like Ballet Beautiful. It’s not a “spiced-up” workout though so if you want a dance party of a workout–this isn’t it. But I do get sore everywhere and I always feel awesome after I do it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Beach Body workouts are too expensive for me. I like You Tube Workouts. There are some good certified trainers there. Check out

I’ve only done ST’s Insanity but have done the Power 90 Abs (not P90X, just the regular) and they’re decent. I actually just started incorporating 500 crunches per day into my routine. I’m hoping to jump up to 1000 next week. I’ll let you know if it helps (since it’s free)! 🙂

I love BeachBody! T25 is amazing! I hated insanity because its so hard. T25 is also super hard, but I can get through it! It’s only 25 minutes so I have no excuse, right!? After, I feel like I could lay on the ground for an hour. I wear a HRM and would burn 350-450 calories in the 25 minutes, which I think is pretty good.
