Look Stunning in Sayulita (or Any Town) This Summer with the $14 Stila Stunning in Sayulita Palette

April 29th, 2011 by Karen 19 Comments

Stila Stunning in Sayulita

H-O-triple-T-HOTTT!!! with three exclamation marks at the end. That’s how hot it was in Sayulita, Mexico (outside Puerto Vallarta), the one time I was there about 10 years ago. It was August, well over 100 degrees, and it had one of those beaches straight out of a Corona commercial.

Wish we were here!

Not gonna lie: I’ve been lusting after Stila’s limited edition Stunning in Sayulita Palette ($14) mostly because of the water. It was a clear teal blue with flecks of what looked like golden glitter in it, and I remember sitting on my surfboard, looking down and watching the glitter just swirl around my ankles and feet. It was beautiful. Almost surreal.

That’s me in the middle clinging to my board for dear life

Beach dog, woof!

The colors in the palette, which comes with two powder blushes (a cheek color and a bronzing powder) and four powder eyeshadows, should play up tan skin nicely. The shadows include a peach, brown, taupe, rose and green. Considering the theme and the cutie pie surfer girl cover art, I was also kinda expecting to find at least one shimmery gold or teal, but alas, nada.

The soft, smooth shadows apply with medium pigmentation. They leave a few specks of fallout beneath my eyes, but not too many. Just a few. As for the blushes, they are sheer, but still surprisingly easy to build and blend.

Taking into account the minor fallout from the shadows and the lack of a gold or teal, I still think Stila priced the palette perfectly. $14 for these four shadows and two blushes is one heck of deal.

PRICE: $14
AVAILABILITY: Available now (while supplies last) at Sephora and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+/A-

WOO HOO! FRIDAY!

Can you tell I’m excited? Tonight I’m gonna try to trick El Hub into watching Water for Elephants with me. 🙂 I’ll tell him it’s a documentary, haha!

What are you up to tonight? Whatever it is, I hope it’s fun.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I am currently in the middle of reading water for elephants, tell us if the movie is s good as the book! 😀

PS. as far as these stila palettes are concerned, they pretty much can do no wrong. The price is right and the colors are super wearable. I TRUST THAT THEY KNOW WHAT THEY’RE DOING WHEN THEY SET UP THESE PALETTES! THEY KNOW WE CAN’T CONTAIN OURSELVES! RESISTANCE IS FUTILE! >:D lol

I love the price point on this palette! The eyeshadow color selection is lovely, and I could definitely see myself creating a lot of wearable looks with them. The green shade is my favorite 🙂

I’m really loving the colors in this palette but they don’t say beaches or tropics to me! I wish everything was a tad more pigmented, but for 14 bucks i can’t complain. And I know about hot weather! Tomorrow is supposed to be 99 degrees where I live(south Texas)!

I got all of last years travel palettes. I doubt I will be able to stop myself from getting these because they are still so cheap. I’m guessing I’ll even buy multiples for gifts. Completely sold on the series already.

Ah! I have to get this for my mom for Mother’s Day! My family used to have a house in Puerto Vallarta and lived down there for a little while (3 months for me, longer for the rest of the fam) We went to Sayulita all the time! I hope my Sephora has this, I might have to rush order it because I leave for Australia and New Zealand on Wednesday for 6 weeks!
