Bring the Brow Bar With You: Get a Pencil, Wax and Comb for $9 With the L’Oreal Brow Stylist Sculptor

September 25th, 2014 by Karen 21 Comments

L'Oreal Brow Stylist Sculptor

As far as successful rebellion campaigns go, the long-running one being waged by my brows has been quite successful…from their point of view. If I had a fat tabby for every sparse spot or stray brow, I’d be living the cat lady high life, I tell ya.

Lately my forces have been attempting to squash the rebellion with L’Oreal’s new Brow Stylist Sculptor ($8.99, and available in Blonde, Brunette and Dark Brunette), a dual-ended product that comes with a pencil for brow filling on one end and a clear, matte setting wax on the other.

But that’s not all. You also get a stiff brush for combing through those unruly brow hairs, which is quite handy. It’s built right into one of the caps.

Just fill in any sparse spots using the brow filling pencil, comb through with the brush, and set the hairs in place with the wax.

I won’t go so far as to say that I’ve squashed the rebellion with these, but we’ve made progress…

I wear Deep Brunette, the darkest shade. It’s a dark neutral brown with a slight gray undertone. The brow pencil end feels waxy and soft, much like Benefit’s Brow Pencils. When I use it, I think my brows look great for five or six hours, but the formula breaks up slowly as the day wears on. On top of that, the wax only offers light control, and the bushiest parts of my brows could use something with stiffer hold.

Yes, the effect with these is subtle — it’s a natural, soft brow look — but I think they’re a pretty good product for the price. Fine in a pinch if you, like, lose your favorite Tom Ford brow pencil or tube of Anastasia Clear Brow Gel and need to find an affordable replacement to tide you over for a few days.

PRICE: $8.99
AVAILABILITY: Available in three shades at drugstores, Ulta and online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B/B+

P.S. Below Deck? Best reality TV show of the year? I’m almost too ashamed to admit that I’m addicted to a show about people working on a yacht…

Almost. 🙂

I remember back in the day I had a L’Oreal soft brown eye liner which I would sometime use on my brows! Cannot imagine doing that now! 😛 Lol!
I love the pinky coral theme on your face Karen! So pretty! and that blue on the eyes!

      Hi Divya,

You gotta do what you gotta do, LOL! I think I may have done the same thing, but with a rand-o Clinique eyeliner.

I have never used any Loreal brow products. This makeup look you created though is super pretty!

I am doing fine. Had a hair appointment yesterday and I decided to go darker! Having a wedding shower this Sunday! What’s new with you?

Did you go full on brunette?! Who’s getting married?

Honestly, nothing too exciting on this end. I have a writing project that’s keeping me busy. Also, there’s the half marathon training. My world revolves around pasta and sleep these days!

it’s not full on brunette, I still left some of my blonde and added two different shades of brown. I was too scared to drastically change the color but next time I think I am going to go even darker!

My best two friends are getting married and I am in the wedding, so is the hubby.

            When is your half marathon?

I love it! I think we both have the same eyebrow problems (almost!!!) my brows tend to go down when it grows. IDK. lol.

These look pretty good but I’d agree that you’d need something more than the wax to give it more of a hold-but I like the idea of dual ends with the wax on one & color on the other!

      Hi Kelly,

I know, right? I like the industrial strength hold I get from Anastasia Clear Brow Gel. A little swipe and my brows don’t move for nothing.

What’s your current brow routine like?

I might check out the Blonde version. Although I never am happy with the drugstore colors.

It’s really subtle. You wouldn’t see the difference if you didn’t point it out. BUT it does look really good. The difference is small but significant, if that makes sense.

based on your review i probably wouldn’t be able to use these…at least not the wax part because my brow hairs would just overpower it…they have a mind of their own!
but maybe these would be a good choice for someone who has very fine brow hairs that would be swamped by the more powerful gels/waxes out there?

I’ll have to check this out next time I’m at the store. I like the idea of having all my brow needs packaged in a single item!

I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve never heard of it (Below Deck)! Sometimes I feel like I’m living under a rock.

I feel you on the brow woes. I think mine get worse every day. 🙁

I’ll have to keep my eyes open for this, I could use a new brow product.
