10 Things You May Find Yourself Doing After Trying the MAC 109 Small Contour Brush for the Very First Time

May 23rd, 2013 by Karen 17 Comments

MAC 109 Small Contour Brush
Behold! The mighty MAC 109 Small Contour Brush! ($35; lens flare not included)
  1. Standing in the spotlight on a massive stage in front of thousands of adoring fans, with your cheekbones contoured like WHOA! — as confetti, balloons and glitter rain down upon your glorious form
  2. Wondering how you ever lived without it
  3. Marveling at how perfectly the diminutive, rounded brush head fits into pans of MAC Eye Shadow singles and the hollows of your cheeks
  4. Contemplating how strange it is for you to want different 109s for bronzer, blush, another one for powders, highlighters, two more for foundations (one for liquids and another for creams, both of which it easily applies) and another one strictly for buffing…
  5. Considering time travel, specifically going back in time 10 years to gift yourself with a 109 and a pan of MAC Refined Golden, and while you’re there, reassuring yourself that you’re doing just fine, so keep up the good work
  6. Singing Debbie Gibson’s Only in My Dreams at the top of your lungs in the shower (using a bottle of shampoo as your microphone, of course) and yelling, “That was for you, 109!!” at the end of the song
  7. Blurting out, “Whoa there, cowgirl!” to no one in particular after you get a look at how many bristles it leaves on your face, because it sheds A LOT — more than any other MAC brush you’ve ever tried
  8. Questioning your sanity after spending $35 on a makeup brush, good or not, that sheds as much as the 109…
  9. Sighing with relief after washing and drying it for the first time, which dramatically cuts down on the future shedding
  10. Gushing to all your girlfriends and makeup-lovin’ guy friends about how great the 109 is, but also warning them about the shedding and suggesting that they give it a good washing beforehand

Pretty stoked about…

This purple cauliflower. 🙂

Stopped by the farmers’ market yesterday and picked it up on a whim.

Have you ever tasted one of these before? I haven’t, but I’m going to steam it and toss it in some lemon vinaigrette and capers tonight.

It’s supposed to be sweeter than regular cauliflower… We shall see!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I looove the 109, call me crazy but I use it as a blush brush too, it’s great with sheer blushes and I like the more precise application.I never really expereinced the shedding problem tho, I wasn’t even aware of that issue. And look at that purple cauliflower! I never saw it before, sounds exciting! ^^

Once upon a time I was in a Mac store, and the kind MA let me borrow her 109 to try out a blush I’d been lusting after for weeks. Girlfriend, I ditched that blush in a hot second and bought that 109 on the spot. We’ve been inseparable ever since. The End.

about the cauliflower…..i think it looses quite a bit of color when it cooked…about the brushes 109 seems like a smaller version of the 116 :-0)

Purple Cauliflower? PURPLE? Whooaaa! Never seen it.. Never heard of it before! 😛
Same goes with MAC 109… Never knew it existed until now and it seems to be something you would want in your stash even with all the shedding 😛 Ha! I love the way you write Karen ♥

This brush has been on my list for a while, but I just haven’t picked it up yet! You’re really selling me on it lol. And that purple cauliflower looks amazing! They also have yellow ones where I live.

The MAC 109 brush was my absolute favorite for years! It sheds a lot, but I just pick the hairs off. It buffs your foundation off like a dream!

I bought the 109 last year and almost immediately returned it. It wasn’t even the shedding that got to me most–it was the stiff, super rough hairs. I guess I shouldn’ve tried washing it first though…:/

And purple cauliflower? Love it! 😀

    Hello,

I am so excited to have found your beauty blog. I just started really getting in to make-up the past few months, so I’ve been slowly trying to purchase more and more products. I am having so much trying new things and I know you’re blog will be extremely helpful!!! I was color matched at MAC and I am also NC42! I only have a few MAC brushes including the 217 and now I can’t wait to get my hands on the 109! Thanks for all the tips! xoxo

I love my 109 brush, but thankfully mine doesn’t seem to shed as much as everyone says they do! I can’t imagine contouring with anything else!

I was just thinking of you writing this post and I was going to search for it because I need a small multitasking brush like that. It’d be great for travelling and I’m going to Chicago next month on a train and my hubby already told me I have to pack light as there is no check in luggage allowed on this train route…

This brush will be PERFECT. I’ve taken it on my last three trips and as long as you clean it off between products (just rub the bristles gently with a paper towel), you’re good! 🙂

Are you going to Chicago for work or fun?
