My Dry Lips Love Moisture Rich L’Oreal Colour Riche Balm SPF 15

February 13th, 2012 by Karen 21 Comments

Sheer lippies are sure having a moment right now, aren’t they? Drugstores have been downright brimming with ’em lately. Especially moisturizing ones like the Maybelline Baby Lips and Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butters. I must spot a new sheer lipstick, gloss or balm at the drugstore every time I visit.

L’Oreal is even getting in on the game with a new line of unflavored, unscented, super sheer hydrating balms with SPF.

Available in eight non-sticky, barely there colors for $7.99 each, the new Colour Riche Balms deliver luminous lips with a tinge of tint and SPF 15.

And they are loaded with moisture. I mean gallons of it! According to L’Oreal, they’re supposed to keep lips quenched for a full eight hours.

Now, I don’t know about eight hours…but after switching back and forth between Caring Coral and Pink Satin both days last weekend, my lips feel great. They haven’t been this smooth and soft since the beginning of winter.

The Colour Riche Balms remind me of the Revlon Lip Butters, which I think pack a little more pigment, but I prefer the texture of these. They seem — I don’t know — more elegant? And slightly slicker and smoother, almost like Dior’s $28 Addict Lipsticks.

I guess if I had to fault these for something, it would be wear time. I wish they lasted a little longer because I feel like I’m always whipping one out to reapply (every 1-2 hours). No biggie, though. As sheer as they are, they’re a cinch to apply without a mirror.

And really, they aren’t advertised as long-wearing products, so I can’t be too surprised or disappointed. But on the off chance that someone over at L’Oreal happens to be reading…if y’all can improve the wear time a tad, I think we’d have a new entrant in the drugstore beauty Hall of Fame. 🙂

PRICE: $7.99 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at drugstores, Ulta stores and also online

The Friskies Plus Playhouse (and reality TV show kitties!)

Aw, man! I wish I’d heard about this sooner. Picture this: Big Brother for cats.

Photo via All Facebook

From now through February 19, Facebook users can tune in to the Friskies Facebook page from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Time to watch 10 cats frolic and play in the Friskies Plus Playhouse.

And the Playhouse is all decked out! There’s an aquarium (which is like cat television), kitten-friendly games and toys, climbing areas and remote control cameras that viewers can operate to “play” with the cats in real-time.

Tabs says he’s satisfied with his current living arrangements, but I’m sure he wouldn’t mind a visit to the Friskies Plus Playhouse.

And he has to be at least a little jealous, what with all of the airtime these cats are getting. I’ve been getting texts from his agent all afternoon pitching ideas for reality TV shows. Hmm…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

These look right up my alley since I am kind of intimidated by lipstick, lol; I shall have to pick these up next time I’m at Walgreen’s or Target.

The packaging is super adorable! I usually like loreal’s lipsticks, pigmented with great price. Gonna try these as soon as they hit the stores here 🙂

I like the SPF prospect! I’ve been ignoring sun protection ever since I moved to Europe, but I was told by a fellow blogger that I should go back on track so that I won’t have to regret later lol

And wheee a playhouse for cats! I spotted a Tango- and a Muffin-lookalike, only slimmer/bigger lol

I love a good moisturizing sheer lipstick. Will look out for them when they reach our shores!

i have 2 of these lipbalms (i think the same colors as you have!) … and i love them! my fave way of using them is as a base before putting on a matte lipstick on top. its a bit more forgiving than bare lips and gives a boost of moisture!

Yes! I like them as a base for lipglosses too, especially sheer ones, because they don’t get in the way of the color!

      Hi Yelena,

Well, they’re both so sheer that they actually look very similar on my lips. If I can I’ll try to wear one in an upcoming FOTD.

These sound promising. Even lip balm seems to be drying my lips out these days!

I love the kitty aquarium built into the floor. Definitely genius! Though the poor fish are probably freaking between 3 and 6! 🙂

I would love one of those in our house! It would keep Tabs out of my hair for a good, oh, five minutes. 🙂

What balms are you using these days? I could always use another one!

Oh, I hear you. It seems like every time I sit down, I have 3 cats all over me!

My latest and greatest balm is from Badger. It’s a pink grapefruit flavor. Though, right now, I’m wearing SuperBalm in raspberry. I can almost feel the moisture being sucked out of my lips as I type. Isn’t that weird? It’s funny because a friend told me the other day that my lip color looked great and asked what it was. The answer was “chapped” since I wasn’t wearing anything but balm. HAHA!

I agree 100%. I love these! Revlon Lip Butters definitely pack way more color, but I love the smooth, lightweight feel of these balms. Sugar Plum lasts a lot longer than Rose Elixir, but I don’t mind re-applying because the size is smaller. (Revlon Lip Butters are a bit wide for me – it makes it difficult to apply without error.)

I’m obsessed with these. I have Rose Elixir and Caring Coral, and they’re moisturizing, and I love that they give just a hint of color, and let the freckle on my upper lip show through. And I can apply them with no mirror :p

I definitely prefer the texture of these to the lip butter I bought. It wasn’t as moisturizing, and it had almost a gritty feel from the shimmer in it. I want to pick up the berry one, I think, and Walgreens has L’Oreal BOGO 50% off this week.

I have this in Tender Mauve and I have similar skintone. The color is amazing and feels fantastic! I am in love with Tender Mauve! They don’t have long wear time, but they feel like heaven on your lips.

Bought Tender Mauve and returned it because I could not tolerate the SPF taste and smell!
Revlon Lip Butters are much better for me!

I bought this in Tender Mauve and the SPF taste and smell are terrible! Got my money back. Revlon Lip Butters are way better.

anyone know which balm will give a more pink, natural lip look on olive tone skin? i bought nourishin nude which i like but its more mauve than nude so my lips look more dark brownish than pink – if that makes sense. thanks gals!

I love these! I like them way better than the lip butters, yes they are sheerer but they look better on my lips. The lip butters sink into my lip lines and look kinda gross. They dont feel as nice as the. Loreal balms either.

Thanks for the review on these! I keep seeing them in the store but I’m always wary of lip products because my lips get so dry – these might work great for me!
