Neither Long Nights Nor Wig-Snatching Tabbies Can Stop the New MAC Extra Dimension Glamour Daze Eye Shadows

October 29th, 2012 by Karen 28 Comments

MAC Glamour Daze Extra Dimension Eye Shadows
The new MAC Glamour Daze Extra Dimension Eye Shadows!

Gurl, I wish I could say that during the 10 hours the ah-MAY-zer-ing new $19.50 MAC Glamour Daze Extra Dimension Eye Shadows lasted on my lids the other day, I cranked out that young adult novel I’ve been meaning to write…

But nope. That book remains unwritten.

Instead, after layering a few of the shades on top of NARS Pro-Prime (my current primer fave) in the Katy Perry Halloween look, I…

  • …was the victim of a wig-snatching! — and the culprit was Tabs. He tugged the wig off while I was sitting on the couch (and now I know how it must feel to star on The Real Housewives of Atlanta).
  • …went shopping for Halloween candy at Target still dressed as Katy Perry. Mini-Snickers for everyone! 🙂
  • …painted my nails twice! Okay, three times… Two words: OPI Skyfall.
  • …talked to my mom on the phone and got caught up on all the family gossip (“Oh, but the thing is, HE’S A MARRIED MAN!”) and her favorite Korean soaps in less than five minutes.

(And I fear I’m beginning to confuse the family events with some of the plot lines from the soaps.)

Poster child for productivity, I’m not, but at least these shadows look good. 🙂 They up the ante on the first batch of Extra Dimension Eye Shadows MAC released last spring, incorporating the same shiny, vibrant finish, negligible creasing and smooth formula that steers clear of my fine lines with an improved wear time that lasts well beyond the original formula’s six hours.

Grayish black Tall Dark & Handsome, soft peach A Natural Flirt and pinkish purple Stylishly Merry last on my lids for at least 10 hours, which is as long as I’ve worn ’em, but I suspect their real wear time may be closer to 16!

Thing is, I haven’t had an occasion to wear them that long yet (no all-nighters at da club on my to-do list this week), but if/when I do, I bet they’ll last.

I want to stop by a MAC counter this afternoon to check out the taupe shade, Stolen Moment, and if it begs for a nice lady to take it home, I might say yes. 🙂

Will I see you there? The counter in the Nordy’s store at Corte Madera? You could show me the cat pics on your phone while I grumble about how MAC shrank the pans for these to 0.04 ounces from 0.07 (and yet kept the price the same).

Really, MAC? Why you gonna do us like that? #catlady solidarity.

Oh, and if you don’t already own a 217, I’ll enable you HARD, because that brush blends these shadows particularly well.

Yup, gotta love pretty colors and double-digit wear times… Highly recommended, despite the decrease in the actual quantity of product. Grrr!

PRICE: $19.50 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at MAC counters, stores and maccosmetics.com

Wythe Blue, continued…

Finally! I picked up a small sample of Benjamin Moore’s Wythe Blue over the weekend and painted a test swatch on a piece of paper.

I couldn’t bring myself to actually test it on the walls, which is probably what I should have done, because what if I hated it?

I like it…but it’s a little darker than I expected.

Hmm… I’m still leaning toward yes.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Those of you out on the East Coast or anywhere in Sandy’s path, please stay safe and be careful!

You will LOVE Stolen Moment! I got it the other day and am obsessed. I am mad that they shrank the size down so much. Boo MAC!
I’m in CT, so Sandy is roaring outside, but I somehow still have power.

I’m glad to hear the formula has improved, and bummed out there is a huge decrease in product and the price remains almost the same. Still, I’m eyeing Stolen Moment as well! Would love to swatch it!

I’m in love with A Natural Flirt! It has the prettiest pink duochrome that I didn’t notice until I took a peek at it in-store. Plus, it looks AMAZING as a cheek highlight!

I didn’t grab any of the other shadows, but I did grab Outrageously Fun lipstick and Orpheus Kohl Power pencil! I’m surprised by how much I ended up liking this collection!

Me too! Oooh…speaking of Outrageously Fun, it looks really pretty with a bright pink gloss. If you have something like MAC Pro Longwear Lipglass in Full Speed Ahead, try it. It’s my new fave combo.

These definitely look better than those last ones that came out–but of course, I really wouldn’t know bc I haven’t tried any of them. I am starting to get tempted though…maybe that taupy shade that came out?

These shadows look amazing! Last time I went to Sephora, they had something similar. Not sure on the wear time, though, I think MAC may have the Sephora brand beat.

Hmm, I’ll have to look for those shadows when I hit up the store. At they by the Sephora house brand?

Not to barge in the conversation but yes they are a Sephora brand! 😀 I have some myself, their pretty good! Not as long-wearing as MAC’s but for the price you can’t beat it! It’s called Prisma Chrome eyeshadow but like MAC’s they too were limited edition!

Hi Karen!!! It’s been too long since I have visited your site or a Mac counter. I too am upset that Mac has reduced the quantity of product, but I am really digging natural flirt as a simple wash of color on the lid (for those lazy days). Also, my bf is moving to San Francisco next week. Any good food joints you would recommend?

      Hi Rosemary,

Thanks for coming back! It’s good to see you again.

You’re right; A Natural Flirt is perfect for a quick wash. Add a little bit of liner and you’re good to go.

As for food…there’s a ton of great places to eat in SF. In face, I just went to a yummy brunch place called Rose’s last Saturday. Here are a few pics:

Wow Stylishly Merry is so…pink! I thought it would be more burgundy ya’ know? Or is there another burgundy one? That’d be the only thing I’d get it I got anything at all from the collection.
LOVE you as Katy Perry! You make a better one than she does! 😉

The shadow colors and very pretty – I always have a soft spot for pinks. 🙂

Definitely get that paint on your wall, sista! If you don’t like it, you can just paint over it. You can do it! 🙂

      Hi Kim,

I’m very excited about the paint. I’ve always wanted to live in a house with different colored rooms, and hopefully this will be the first step to making that dream come true! Hopefully when the room’s done I’ll feel like I’m at the beach when I’m sitting there. That’s the goal, at least.

Do you guys have different colors on your walls?

I’m excited for you! One of my friends has the best collection of different colored rooms. They are all unique/trendy colors but they work so nicely together. No, sadly The Hubs would like everything to be white so I get a ration whenever I want to add some color. That said, we have gold in the living room, light yellow in the kitchen, pale blue in the downstairs bathroom, pale green in the kids’ room and beige in ours. There was a lot of wallpaper when we bought the house, so we’re (very) slowly transitioning. It’s always a “discussion”. 🙂 I think you’re going to love your new walls – it’s such a great, beachy color!!

The painters stopped by today to get a look at the room. Looks like it’s going to happen very, very soon, hooray!

Your color choices sound very soothing. Me likey! The last thing I want is to come home and see “stimulating” walls. LOL. Oh, and ever since I read The Yellow Wallpaper in college, the thought of wallpaper kinda stresses me out (“But what if I start seeing things in the patterns?”).

Kinda random, but I watched a movie with Nathan Fillion last night and thought of you.

Another Stolen Moment lover here – its a gorgeous taupe thats almost holographic. I cant describe the color accurately, but I dont own anything like it. At all. I actually bought a backup. 🙂

I also got Stylishly Merry, which is the most gorgeous dark pink/purple, Ready to Party, which is a soft, pretty lilac, almost baby pink shade and Evening Grey, because im a sucker for grey eyeshadows. Grey anything, really. 🙂

Me too! I love grey eyeshadows. I have tons but I always want “just one more grey”. You know? The MAC Styledriven (permanent) eyeshadow in Weathered is beautiful. It has some purple shimmer in it. Also, the Phone Number Kohl? Love it! Used with bronze-ish shadows, it’s gorgeous.

    Karen 🙂 You look amazing.

The collection launched today, here, and I picked up two of the Extra Dimension eyeshadows: Tall, Dark & Handsome as well as Round Midnight. I love the texture.

I live in an apartment with many coloured walls. It’s actually quite fun: kitchen is lime green, bedroom is medium blue, bathroom is medium blue and the living room is like chili red. But I have to say it can be a bit too stimulating sometimes. I’m pretty bad at relaxing at home because of the colours, I think.
