The Shimmery Jewel-Toned Eyeshadows in the NYX Suede Palette Are Anything But Typical for Summer

May 30th, 2014 by Karen 15 Comments

NYX Suede Palette
Wearing the new NYX Suede Palette on my eyes

Dust off that stick of MAC Costa Riche liner (or any of the warm reddish brown eyeliners or eyeshadows in yo’ collection, for that matter), because the new NYX Suede Palette ($15) wants to make magic with it.

This new palette of shimmery, pearlescent jewel-toned eyeshadows is like the partridge to a warm reddish brown’s pear tree. I’m thinking a warm reddish brown with a matte finish…a la MAC Costa Riche, Swiss Chocolate or Embark.

Because all eight shadows in the palette have a shiny finish that borders on metallic, incorporating a matte to contrast with the shimmer should balance with the shadows quite nicely. For these pics here, I used good ol’ MAC Costa Riche on my water and lower lash lines, but I think I’ll sweep a matte brown in the crease as well next time I try this.

These shadows sure are easy to work with. Hardly any fallout at all, lots of pigment, AND they’re easy to blend. The only issue I’ve really had with any of them at all is with my eyes watering — not a lot. Just a tad. My eyes must be super sensitive today because my left eye got a little teary after I smudged the dark blue teal along my lower lash line.

I really dig this palette, in large part because it’s not just your run-of-the-mill, typical gold and teal summer eye palette. It’s different — moodier, kind of smokey, and the shades should be just as wearable in the fall.

Suede is available now for $15 at NYX counters and nyxcosmetics.com.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Who’s down for some shoe shopping tonight? 😀 LOL! I needs it. It’s been one of those Fridays, ya know?

What are you up to? Are you going to see Maleficent? It looks like it’s getting OK reviews so far… Not great, but I don’t care. I still want to see it.

Hi Karen! I wanted to tell you I still read your blog, but I’ve been super busy for the past five months. I love reading your posts – they give such good info! I’m excited about this weekend – tomorrow I get to pick up my dress and have a hair and makeup trial for my wedding on June 21! I’ll be carrying Evo-Revo with me that day 🙂

This would be a great one to get for someone who is just stepping out of the neutral zone into a world of color 🙂

This looks like a really neat smoky palette, actually! It’s lovely that there are affordable brands really upping the quality and selection of their eyeshadows – it’s great for beginners or people who want to get into a different colour scheme without risking too much expense! 😀

    1. Cool- or warm-toned eyeshadows? Is it bad that I don’t know the difference?
    2. We’re going for a bike ride down to the beach. What’s in your bike basket? Water bottle and towel!
    3. Mint or pink? Pink – I think it id flattering on everyone
    4. One thing that makes you happy? Besides margaritas in the summer – my cat and people who are kind

      Hi Denay,

      I loved your answer to 5. 🙂

What kind of cat do you have, by the way? What’s his or her name?
