Sarah Moon for NARS Holiday 2016: The Mind Game Velvet Lip Glide Coffret

Welcome to the Dark Side! — and by “Dark Side,” I don’t mean Darth Vader’s neck of the woods. I’m talking about the $45 NARS Mind Game Velvet Lip Glide set (a Sephora exclusive, coming November 1st), one of several NARS sets in the Sarah Moon Holiday 2016 Collection.

It comes with six mini Lip Glides, and I’ve talked about the Lip Glides before.

Basically…I think they’re awesome.

They’re liquid lipsticks that feel like glosses, but unlike your typical liquid lipsticks, they’re comfortable. They also shouldn’t make your lips dry or make them look like a cat butt after a few hours. They stay nice and creamy, but they aren’t so malleable that they end up all over your face. I think they’re lovely and really great.

These have the same light vanilla flavor and scent as the ones in the permanent line and the same flat doe-foot applicator, which comes in really handy with the dark colors.

These aren’t high maintenance to wear or apply, and you can get nice, crisp, clean lines with the doe foot. A lip pencil or lip brush isn’t necessary.

Obviously, if you aren’t a dark lips person, this won’t be the set for you, because five of the shades are dark. It’s a dramatic look — more high fashion-y than goth, in my opinion.

Three of the shades are in the permanent line (Bound, Unspeakable and Toy), and I’m pretty sure that the other three are re-promotes (No. 675, Chez Claude and Plato’s).

Oh! — about wear time, I almost forgot. Liquid lipsticks are famous for lasting hours upon hours upon hours and through meals, but these don’t, because the formula is lighter like a gloss. They last on my lips about three hours but won’t last through a meal.

WHAT IS IT? The Mind Game Velvet Lip Glide Coffret
SHOULD YOU GET IT? Yeah, I think so. It’s a great deal, especially if you like dark lip colors. You get to try a bunch of NARS Velvet Lip Glides for $45, and I think the Velvet Lip Glides are some of the best lip products in the entire line.

Oh gosh these are lovely! Toy is a really perfect Autumn/Winter shade. They all look beautiful on you! Is the formula sticky at all?

    Thanks for the swatches, Karen!

I was really looking forward to this set but I’m kinda bummed by how similar a few of the shades are.

when you say you think the new shades are repromotes, do you mean within the existing Velvet glide line? I’d be curious to know which you’d equate with 675, as I think that’s the only shade I want based on the swatches.

    Thanks!

What a lovely set! I only have one Velvet Lip Glide (Unspeakable) but I think it’s a great formula.

hey lovely, I’m confused about a few of the colors being repromotes — I thought this was a brand new formula, so did you mean the shades had previous lives in other lippie forms? like gloss or pencil or normal lipstick?

I’m gonna be honest and tell you those colors, with the exception of the light pink, don’t suit you :/ nars is nice but sooo overpriced.

I really wanted Bound and Unspeakable in full size but I’m holding off to get this because all the shades are great. 675 is a little out of my comfort zone being warmer than what I usually use, but we’ll see!
