Tame House Tabby or Jungle Cat? The Dolce & Gabbana Animalier Bronzer

June 30th, 2011 by Karen 32 Comments

Card carrying members of Team Cat Lady, whether you’re a a tame house tabby or a certified jungle cat, chances are you WILL meow when you see the leopard print on Dolce & Gabbana’s limited edition Animalier Bronzer ($50).

Isn’t it just the coolest thing since leopard-print heels? Too bad the pattern’s an overspray and not actually etched into the pan — or maybe that’s for the best. The first few times it’s used, as the colors in the overspray are mixed together, the product applies super dark (like a chocolate golden sheen), and it would probably make a fantastic eyeshadow totally perfect for sexy, smokey eyes.

But once the overspray gets worn away, out comes a sheer, orangey brown bronzer with tiny flecks of golden glitter. Mrow! It’s sheer, though. Too sheer for me as an NC42; on me it delivers a subtle warmth, yet while I sheer do like the glitter and how smooth it feels, there’s something a little off about how the color works with my skin, like some of the darker tones from the overspray are still milling about…

“Muddy” is the word that comes to mind, and I was actually hoping for sun-lit.

The cat lady in me loves the design (it might even be worth it for that) and applauds the evocative, provocative idea, but as a bronzer it just doesn’t light me up the way I like (ala MAC Gold-Go-Lightly Careblend and NARS Laguna).

PRICE: $50
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Saks Fifth Avenue stores and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B (nifty idea, but $50 is a lot)

Taking the kitty/puppy modeling world by storm!

Tabs and I have been blown away by the fierce kitty/puppy models who’ve sent in pictures of themselves with their tubes of MAC Evolution Revolution Lipglass. 🙂

Lucky the dog, who shares a home with Tiffany, plays up his paws like a pro.

Ella, the Main Coon kitty who rules the roost (and rents a room) at Mimi‘s house, has perfected the art of smiling with her eyes. Watch out, Tyra!

And Dexter the cat, an aspiring runway kitty, likes to show his friend Amanda his advanced kitty modeling moves (check out that sneaky side eye!).

If your furry friend ever strikes a pose with a tube of EvRev nearby, snap a picture and mail it to me at karen at makeup and beauty blog dot com, or send it by Facebook or Twitter.

The pet modeling scouts are always looking for new talent. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I was going to take a shot of Tigger with EvRev but my camera died. The batteries are charging as I type! I did get a cute photo of him in a little ball, though, with the camera on my iPhone. 🙂

While I appreciate the spots (like Gizmo’s tummy!), this seems overpriced — especially considering the muddiness. Ah well. I guess I’ll have to bolster my CCL credentials through other purchases, lol.

BUMMED! Thanks for swatching this. I still may have to try it on in person but knowing that this is an overspray (my suspicions to begin with) I may pass.

    Being a fellow NC42, I don’t think I can pull this off.

I don’t have a pet but I can send you a picture of my daughter attempting to put Evolution Revolution gloss on her cute little lips.

You’re welcome! And aww… your daughter is so lucky! Back in the day my mom didn’t let me wear makeup until I was in high school.

What did you use on the eyelids? It’s so pretty!

I’m also a NC42/44 girl… now I kinda want a bronzer :P. Not this one though… do you prefer the Nars or Bobby Brown one?

      That’s the new Chanel Fantasme!

As for bronzer, I really, REALLY love NARS Laguna. If you can get a hold of MAC’s Gold-Go-Lightly from Surf Baby, that’s great too.

Thanks Karen! I saw the Chanel post after I commented on this one. I love both Fantasme and Khaki Platine (especially!).

Thank you for the bronzer recommendation too. I’ll try to get my hands on the Orgasm & Laguna duo *grins*.

Karen, maybe D&G are trying to start a new trend? Dirty faces rather than bronzed?

I had wondered how black in the bronzer (overspray or not) would work. I guess now I know. Thanks for being the guinea pig on that one! 🙂

With all the crazy beauty trends that’ve come and gone, I wouldn’t be surprised of a dirty-looking face actually became trendy, LOL!

This is kind of muddy. I have a Physician’s Formula Face and Body Bronzer that is bronzey-brown, but once I put it on, the shimmer picks up on my tanned skin and makes me look great. I think that’s what a bronzer should do for you.

I am waiting for my MAC order so I can take a pic of Rock n’ Roll and Jazz holding EvoRevo. I know they’re going to fight over it!

I agree that the overspray is a little scary. I think I’d also look like an Oompa Loompa even when it wore off. 🙂

Tiffany’s Lucky is the cutest dog I’ve seen in a LONG time. Tiffany, if you’re reading through the comments (and if I remember correctly, you’re probably still trying to catch up on sleep from the baby!), is Lucky still a puppy and what breed is he?

Aww thanks Kim! You and Karen just made my day 🙂 he will actually turn 8 (!) in about a month. Time flies! I got him from a shelter and he’s a mutt, but we think he’s part springer spaniel. Not sure what else is mixed in there!

$50 is DEFINITELY a lot. Way too much. And it’s a shame that..

    1. It’s only an overspray
    2. The overspray makes it muddy.

    🙁

Aw, it’s unfortunate that it’s just an overspray – it’s so beautiful! And it’s also unfortunate that the overspray ruins the actual product in terms of color, haha. Oh well. The cute pictures of animals makes up for it 😀
