For Lips So Shiny the Sun Would Envy: Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss in Envy

August 1st, 2014 by Karen 4 Comments

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss in Envy

Step away from the lip pencil!

Don’t worry. You’re not gonna need it with new Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss in Envy ($19), even though I thought I would when I saw the tube.

Turns out I didn’t.

Tarte Envy LipSurgence Lip Gloss (5)

Mauve-ish berry Envy, a limited edition gloss in Tarte’s 2014 fall collection and the latest gal to join Team Tarte LipSurgence, is filled to the brim with antioxidants and moisturizing ingredients, and it’s supposed to push your fine lip lines and wrinkles out of the picture.

The color looks much deeper and more intense in the tube than it does on my lips, where it applies quite sheer.

Actually, all of the LipSurgence Glosses are like that. Natural-looking lip color is the name of their game. Tarte purposefully dialed back the pigment to make sure that some of your natural lip luster peeks through.

Where Envy doesn’t pull any punches is shine (it’s right up there with MAC Clear Lipglass, an old-school fave), and it’s highly reflective. I swear, when I wear it, my lips, which aren’t that full to begin with, turn into a ScarJo-like pout. The shine makes them look plumper.

Straight up, if your lips are dry, dry, dry like mine, Envy moisturizes like a mofo. The cruelty-free formula, which doesn’t feel sticky on my lips, also has a warm vanilla taste and scent, and it lasts from 2-3 hours.

It’s also easy to apply, thanks to an “ergonomic” doe-foot designed to hug the lips.

Envy is a lovely low-maintenance, high-moisture purse gloss perfect for gals and guys who just want a little tint on their lips.

It might seem a tad overpriced, though, if you’re looking for richer color.

PRICE: $19
AVAILABILITY: Limited edition, available now at Tarte counters, Sephora, Ulta and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B (did I mention that it’s very sheer?)

Karen

The colour is pretty in the tube and swatch, and it does look lovely on! It probably would show its colour on my zombie lips, but I can see how it might be less enticing to non-zombies who are looking for colour that shows up!

I like how moisturizing it is but I realized recently that I need to dial back the shine and the glitter (especially the glitter, though I realize this doesn’t have any). I put on a Gloss in Love the other day and had to wipe it off because the glitter made me look totally cray. Looks like my shimmery summers have come to an end. HAHA!
