Tarte Three Carats: Easy Blush, Light Flush

November 16th, 2009 by Karen 33 Comments

tarte-three-carats-open

Today I came *this close* to chomping down on the cheek stains in Tarte’s Three Carats Set ($25) because they reminded me of Push-Ups pops. Nom, nom, nom! 🙂

tarte-three-carats

One of three new limited-edition makeup gift sets from Tarte, Three Carats comes with three mini-gel blushes decorated in festive silver and rhinestones.

Don’t be fooled by how dark they look in their blingy outfits; they apply super-sheer and natural, despite appearances.

  • Cushion: A sheer and shimmery bronze
  • Brilliant: A sheer and creamy apricot
  • Princess: A sheer and shimmery pink

Like other Tarte cheek stains I’ve tried in the past, these are really easy to use — a lazy girl’s BFF, fo’ reals. I dab them directly onto my cheeks, blending with my fingers.

Ready to rumble in less than a minute flat!

In terms of color, I think there’s room for a little more. All Three Carats deliver a simply subtle shimmer — pretty, but more like highlighters than a blush.

Pale beauties better look out because these light, natural colors should sing sonnets on light skin. 🙂

If you like easy blush with a natural flush, these should get a big Santa stamp of approval. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

I really like Princess but the other two scare me a bit too much to plunk down $25 for the whole set. Apricot and brozey colors tend to look very, very bad on my ultra cool-toned fair skin.

The packaging is super cute though!

      Hi Kate & Zena,

Hmm, maybe they’ll release Princess as a full-sized cheek stain in the future. 🙂 I’ll keep my fingers crossed for ya!

I think the packaging on those is seriously cute… and you’re right, they’re totally like Push-Ups!

I am thinking about getting these babies because they are so cute with their bling bling. These might be a bit light for my skin tone, I am a NC 35. I wouldn’t mind carrying this around in my bag for touch ups or just to whip it out randomly to show it off. Those POP UPs are a classic! Do they still make them?

They look more like highlighters than blush. I’m trying to stay away from anything with shimmer besides eyeshadow right now. My BB cream is loaded with shimmer so if I added this, I would be a human disco ball. I can’t quit using this BB cream either because I’d be guilty I put it to waste 🙁 Cute packaging though!

      Hi Ashley,

Why are you trying to stay away from shimmer? I don’t think I could live without it.

Oh man, now I want a Push Up Pop! Also, Amy — pay attention in your check out aisle next time you’re at the grocery store, because they are still around! I bought one a few months ago for the hell of it 😀

      Hi L,

I remember buying them from the ice cream truck when I was a kid. Are those still around? I haven’t seen one in years.

Hm… these are too light =( They looked like real blushers in the tube but I can’t believe they come out to be like highlighters. That is a huge disappointment.. *sigh*

      Hi Sheila,

I think for the right skin tone these could be great blushes. But alas, ’twas not meant to be for me…

I reckon they look great, but the packaging is a bit too much for me. Though that’s not what counts, obviously! Cushion is my fave, it’s sooo pretty!

I have these. I got them about a month ago when I went on an I-want-to-try-cheek-stains kick. I like them all well enough, but Brilliant is definitely my favorite. It wears really well on my fair skin. They smell nice, too.

Beware though, as I got mine during Sephora’s F&F, and they are dry and scratchy….I’m returning my set this weekend and hoping to find the Nars set instead…..

      Hi DonnaN,

Bummer about yours being dry and scratchy! Mine were super moist… maybe you got a junk set, hmm.

Are you planning on getting some NARS multiples?

    Hey Karen,

I don’t know what happened….very dissappointing, that’s for sure. I have NOT had luck with cream blush. Maybe powder’s just my thing……

I am gonna try to get the Nars trio as an exchange, if they have them in the store…..otherwise, I will have to include them in my December online order. Any suggestions on any other brands I should look at?
