The Chanel Collection Essentielle De Chanel Paris-L.A. Palette Goes Great Without a Tan

December 9th, 2010 by Karen 20 Comments

Chanel Collection Essentielle De Chanel Paris-LA Palette top

Before my hair appointment yesterday (I’ll post pics soon. 🙂 But here’s a hint: Vanessa Hudgens!), I swung by the Chanel counter to check out the Chanel Collection Essentielle De Chanel Paris-L.A. Palette ($85) in person.

I saw it the other day on The Non-Blonde and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since.

With the limited edition holiday palette for eyes, cheeks and lips, Chanel says they were shooting for something hip like LA yet elegant like Paris. It comes with two lip glosses, one a shimmery plum and the other a shimmery reddish plum; one shimmery plum lipstick; three powder eyeshadows in matte beige, matte taupe and matte plum; a shimmery, peachy pink cream blush with a hint of gold; and two creamy yellow-based concealers. That’s nine bits ‘o Chanel for $85…which is just about as close to a fire sale on Chanel as we’re ever likely to see.

Chanel says the palette plays nicely with all skin tones, but I dunno. The colors look pretty sheer, especially the shadows, swatched on the back of my hand, which is probably somewhere around an NC35. It might take some time to really build up these shades if you’re a very tanned gal. Lighter lasses, upon which the pigments would POP!, should have better luck with these. 🙂

PRICE: $85
AVAILABILITY: Available at Chanel boutiques, select department stores and chanel.com

I agree with you, Karen. Judging from the swatches, I think the eyeshadow and concealer colors looks a bit ashy. Definitely wont purchase for any price.

      Hi Arumanis,

Wouldn’t it be nice if they made palettes for different skin tones like light, medium and dark? I’d totally dig that.

        Hi Karen,

Totally. Imagine…nude pallette for rosy skin, nude pallette for bonze skin. That would be so cool…

What a great Chanel palette! (Then again, I’m pretty fair-skinned) And I’m all about the shimmery plum.

      Hi Kimberly,

These colors would probably look great on you!

Speaking of plum shades, have you ever tried Chanel’s Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Emoi? I put it on yesterday and it’s the most beautiful plummy/berry.

You got me at plum/berry. I’ve a 6h airport layover next week, I’m going to do some serious makeup stalking methinks.

I wish Chanel would make palettes likes this with a blush and a bronzer instead of foundation/concealer. Unless they make different ones for different skintones, it seems silly to cut 70% of people out of your possible sale pool because there are items in it that don’t match their skintone. I really like the palette, but if I’m going to pay $85 for something I’d like to be able to use ALL of the items in it!

      Hi Lucie,

I hear you. You could always try using the concealer as an eye primer…

Thanks for the link love 🙂
We’re in agreement. It’s lovely and a great value. I adore the lip colors but haven’t bothered with the eye shadows in weeks. Maybe I should pass it along to my much lighter sister.

Can’t wait to see your new hair!

I’m pretty fair and I wear plums well so I really want to love this…but it just doesn’t seem that well thought out. If they wanted this to be a grab-and-go weekend palette, I think a highlighter and a cream liner would have been a better use of the concealer spaces!

Thank goodness…it would never show up on my skin colour…:D 😀 and now I won’t feel so bad that Chanel never bothers getting the palettes to India.

It’s pretty, but I’m not much for the pinky eyeshadows. If it were some nice browns in there I’d be all over this palette!

I’d be all over this if not for the concealers, which I think look too dark and orangey to be of any use on me. Indeed, if only you could switch those out for something else!

I got this last week and took it with when I travelled to my friends. It was great for morning after the concert make-up, when I was too tired and sore to even think about using loads of products!

Well, it doesn’t scream Holiday, but it’s very pretty. Then again, I’m a pink kinda gal. 🙂

Let’s see those hair pics!! 🙂

I’m not really impressed by this palette tbh, the colors look boring and too sheer for my taste.

The palette looks very pretty but I think that it is a mistake to put concealors in there because many people wouldn’t be able to use those colours.

And the colours are so sheer!
