The Chanel Ombres Perlees de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette, Kitty Tron and Chai Tea

December 24th, 2010 by Karen 24 Comments

chanel ombres perlees de chanel on karen

Christmas came early this year! Granted it’s only a couple of hours away, but it really did come early, in the form of these three very cool things.

1. Big Train Spiced Chai

Reader Bunny Masseuse recommended this powdered chai mix in the comments a couple weeks ago, and HOT DAYUM! I actually raised the roof in my kitchen this morning when I made a cup (to quote El Hub from the other room: “What the hell are you doing?”). If you like chai, you gotta give it a try (ha! I made a rhyme!).

2. This kitty Tron outfit

I don’t have the words to convey how totally awesome this is. Someone tweeted it today, and the first thing I thought was, does it come in kitty XXL?? Um…Tabby got a big ol’ booty.

3. The Chanel Ombres Perlees de Chanel Eyeshadow Palette ($65)

I know, I know, $65 is a LOT of tacos, but hear me out.

The palette of five eyeshadows is new for spring and one of two eyeshadow palettes in the Les Perles de Chanel collection.

The texture of these shadows is a little unusual for Chanel. They feel almost creamy, kinda like the cream eyeshadow base from last fall’s Chanel Ombres Contrastes Duos.

They aren’t creamy in the same way that a solid pan of cream blush or a MAC Paint Pot are, but rather they’re moist like a buttery powder.

The texture makes them perfect for applying with fingers, and that makes them perfect for busy mornings. I can just pat a few colors on my lids, blend ’em out, and jet.

To see how they’d perform, I also tried to apply them with a couple of different makeup brushes — a flat goat hair eyeshadow brush, a domed goat hair eyeshadow brush and a synthetic flat eyeshadow brush — but I got the best results, with the richest colors and most even application, when I just used my fingers (maybe the warmth from the fingers helps to distribute the product evenly).

I love the look of big, bright eyes, and these five have a super sophisticated, frosty finish that makes the look easier to achieve. It’s like the soft luminescence on the surface of a pearl. Frosty, but with the shine turned down a notch.

No worries about these shadows looking heavy, either. Even when I’ve really packed ’em on, they still look blended into my skin, as opposed to looking like they’re sitting on top of it.

I wish I could say that I found the palette on sale somewhere, but Chanel appears to be allergic to discounts. Chances are we won’t be seeing Ombres Perlees offered at a discount any time soon.

PRICE: $65
AVAILABILITY: At Chanel boutiques, counters and chanel.com

LOL love that Kitty Tron. I don’t think anyone human or feline can look good in a skin tight glowing outfit.

I really want to try this palette.

I never buy Chanel, but I’m seriously on the fence this time. And I told Mark I was waiting for someone to identify or create a Black Pearl dupe, and he actually argued in FAVOR of buying Chanel, god love him.

I think if I am dragged out into the world of post-holiday shopping this weekend, this will be my reward. And if not, I’ll just have to find another reason. 😉

I ordered a few things from Nordstrom last night & this was one of them! Can’t wait til it arrives…I especially love that fingers are the best method of application. Nothing like a quick ‘n easy process for a time-strapped Mommy like me! 😀

    Merry Christmas, Karen!

My friend talked me into swatching it (I was avoiding that price tag) and I loved the colors so much I got the very last one in the drawer! I tried out one eye look I saw online, completely gorgeous colors on. I’m looking forward to wearing them out.

    Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

Alright. Chanel palette goes right onto the top of my shopping list, the minute it pops up here! 😀 I love that fingers are the best way to apply it and that its not overly frosty. Merry Christmas Karen!

I just received mine today! It’s so gorg. Love the free expedited shipping Chanel offered on Wednesday! I actually splurged on most of this collection, I just love how it goes together and looks alone so much.

The Tron cat picture is so many kinds of awesome that my husband had to save the image for our wallpaper.

I ain’t payin’ $65 for that palette, but I will buy the coral lip liner and the nude gloss (Insouciance, I think?) from the spring line.

Oh Chanel, why do you tempt us so? I haven’t been this excited about a Chanel release since spring two years ago (with Gypsy Scarlet lipstick and Vendetta nailpolish…)

So so pretty! Probably the first palette I’ve seen in a long time that I like every single color. Must swatch on Monday, but I’m thinking it is love.

i quit buying chanel in stores, i now buy them online. why cause very often/most of the time they have free shipping, i pay no tax (i live in ca also) and my products arrive in a small black chanel gift bag which is reusable (i use it for my makeup bag). so yes i swatch away in stores and shop online. oh they always include 2 free samples also so i can try new products.
