The MAC Hey, Sailor! Powerpoint Eye Pencils Are Proving a Point About Coordinating Colors

This one’s for the off-the-charts MAC fanatics — the ones who collect obsessively and foam at the mouth over the prospects of getting a Barbie Loves MAC t-shirt.

The three new MAC Hey, Sailor! Powerpoint Eye Pencils ($16) are fully equipped for obsessions. Smudge-ably smooth and fully opaque, they last all day on my lids, even without primer, and pair perfectly with their MAC Hey, Sailor! Eyeshadow counterparts. Twinsies! 🙂

Handforged, a metallic yellow gold, belongs with Barefoot; Emerald Sea, a kelly green, gallops with Feeling Fresh; and Blue Stripe, a dark navy, sings songs of the sea with Nautical Navy.

“A kohl pencil that has all the intensity and colour-power of ultra-soft carbon. Provides deep, fully opaque coverage and an intense, smoked finish with duo-chrome pearl. Versatile in application: blend or smudge. Packaged in blue and white stripes, it’s a match to everything Hey, Sailor!”

— maccosmetics.com

If you already planned to sail away with any of the Hey, Sailor! shadows, you might be wondering, “Are the Powerpoint Eye Pencils still worth my time?” Well, if you’re a die-hard, dedicated MAC-aholic, then yes, I think they are. Having both the eyeshadows and their coordinating Powerpoints has its privileges.

Even though the eyeshadows pack a lot of pigment on their own, there’s always room for more. To crank up the intensity even further, I’ve been applying the shadows on top of their coordinating Powerpoints. Sometimes, though, I’ll also wear them on top of the shadows along my lash lines, to give my lashes a little extra kick.

I’m also impressed by how long these Powerpoints last on my combo dry/oil lids and along my lash line, even when worn without a primer. We’re talking 6-8 hours, and without a primer, that’s quite good.

Now, if you already have the Hey, Sailor! shadows that match with each of these, you might not feel like you need these Powerpoints. In that case, I think they’re nice, but not necessarily must-haves.

As for the amplified effect of wearing the matching Powerpoints and eyeshadows together, you can kinda recreate the same effect by wetting a MAC 266 brush with Fix+ before applying your Hey, Sailor! eyeshadow.

But say you have room in your checkout cart for a single new liner. I’d push for Blue Stripe (MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A). A navy shade similar to Nautical Navy eyeshadow but lacking the black undertones, I think it’s the smoothest, most pigmented of these three.

And if you can accommodate two, I’d add Emerald Sea (MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A-), just because I think it’s fun and bright. This week, in a couple of a cat eye looks, I wore Hey, Sailor! Jaunty all over my lids and alternated between Blue Stripe and Emerald Sea on my upper lash lines.

Not that I don’t have love for Handforged, because I do (MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B). I love the gorgeous brightening effect it has, but it also feels a little grittier and chunkier to me than the other two, probably due to its bigger glitter bits.

Which reminds me…I’d stick to wearing these on your lash lines. I chatted with a MAC artist this morning who said that the Powerpoints aren’t approved for us on the water lines. That limits their flexibility somewhat, but hey, what are ya gonna do?

All three Powerpoint pencils are available now at maccosmetics.com and arriving May 24 at MAC counters and stores.

As for that whole “I’m waking up at 5:30” experiment…

Day two. I actually woke up to use the bathroom before the alarm this morning (yay!), but after I washed my hands, I crawled back in bed (boo!).

I think I might need to start drinking coffee again… Maybe I should put the coffee maker in my bedroom and set it to automatically start at 5:30. 🙂

I’m sure I wouldn’t be the first person to give that a try, haha!

How about you? Are you an early riser? What time do you usually wake up in the morning?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

They look lovely on you! Handforged gives you such a lovely glow! But yes, I don’t particularly enjoy the idea of having chunky (harsh?) glitter on my eyes. I have a thing for blue eye-liners, they are so much fun!

I get up early only when I have to :). Otherwise, it’s always 7:00-7:30 AM.

PS: Tabs is looking so cute-snuggly baby =^.^=

      Hi Musical,

It’s a little chunky compared to the other too, but it’s not super chunky, if that makes any sense. Swatch it when you hit up the MAC counter. It’s still a really great color (I’m wearing it today, as a matter of fact). 🙂

My body naturally wants to wake up a 7 too. Lemme guess, you go to bed around 11 or 12?

Yes! Would love to check it out! (This makes me so happy!)

And you’re right regarding my bed-time schedule-that’s what’s been going on lately! A while ago, though, i used to hit the pillow after “The Carson Daly Show” :-D.

Hrrrrmmm that gold – I want!

Im not exactly an early riser but I manage. During the week, im up a little before 6 – to feed the cats and get ready for work. In theory, I have around 30 minutes to spare, since im always at work by 730, but better safe than sorry. 🙂

On the weekends, the alarm is off but I still wake up at around 6am. Luckily, its easy for me to fall right back to sleep, but the latest I can sleep is around 9, otherwise id get a headache. 🙂

      Hi Nina,

Yeah, it’s really pretty. I wore it today with the gold and white shades from the collection (also MAC Teddy) and it’s very, very pretty. Hee, hee, do the kitties and the pup follow you around in the morning until you feed them?

I really like what you’ve done with Handforged. The shape looks so cool! It’s like an angel’s wing. 🙂

As for early rising, heck no. I get up at about 6 AM on workdays (and pretty much for half the year on weekends because of hockey) but only because I have to. I could easily sleep until 10. I wasn’t like that when I was young and I’m told I won’t be like that when I get old(er) but I’d say I’ve loved to sleep in for about 20 years now. 🙂

      Hi Kim,

      Thanks! 🙂

Oh, I could easily sleep in every day until 10 or 11. I don’t just understand the concept of getting too much sleep. I don’t think I could ever get enough.

Dude…my dad wakes up at 4 in the morning now. I can’t believe I have that to look forward to.

Wow, I love the blue mascara with all of them, especially the green! Never thought of trying colored mascara before but that’s a really cool way to do interesting color combinations without looking like a clown threw up on your eyes! 😛
