The MAC Reel Sexy Lipsticks: Bright, Saturated and Undeniably MAC

Wearing MAC Lipstick in Reel Sexy

MAC lovers must be finding Reel Sexy real hard to resist. The four lipsticks from the upcoming release don’t arrive on counters until Thursday, April 5, but they had been available for purchase online. Not now, though, at least not directly from MAC. All four are currently sold out, and it’s probably safe to assume they’ll be hot commodities when they arrive in stores this week (at the time of this writing, they were still available on nordstrom.com).

I can’t say I’m surprised that MAC lovers have been snatching ’em up with a quickness. They’re bright, saturated, and undeniably MAC.

One of these days, I’d love to round up a bunch of us and go to the movies. Maybe — and I’m just throwing out a suggestion here — the movie could be The Hunger Games 🙂 (yes, I’m actually thinking about watching it AGAIN), and we could all wear the Reel Sexy lipsticks, because I like the idea of looking around the theater and seeing all of our faces in the dark, with the light from the screen reflecting off our lips, all lit up and magical…

These colors would be great for something like that.

Here are a few notes on the individual shades…

Watch Me Simmer: Love this shade! So smooth, so bold, so bright… It’s easy to dress up or down, and I only need one layer for complete coverage. The Amplified finish also lasts all day long on my lips.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

Reel Sexy: Another win! To me, this one’s all floppy hats, colorful beach coverups and white sandy beaches. I think it can take a little bit of babying to look good, like, I have to pat the lipstick down with a finger to even out the pigment, but a second layer makes it perfect.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A-

Pink Popcorn: A lavender with a Lustre finish, Pink Popcorn is the quiet one. I used a couple of layers to build it up for these pics, but when its worn as a single layer, I think it actually looks very natural, like a purpler version of Syrup. It may not have the staying power of Watch Me Simmer or Reel Sexy, but I really like color and its flexibility.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+

Heroine: She might be a little too much for me, but I bet this intense violet could look really beautiful on darker damsels. If you love All My Purple Life Lipglass, don’t miss this Heroine.

Deep thoughts…on Cee Lo’s wig

Did you catch The Voice last night? Oh, that wig… Ha! The first time the camera showed Cee Lo in that crazy wig, I almost projectile laughed up a mouthful of Annie’s Cheddar Bunnies! 🙂

I must say — it kinda went with that outfit, didn’t it? Which is something, because there aren’t a lot of things that go well with bejeweled, skintight red jumpsuits with fringe!

I love that goofy guy… All of the judges, really. They don’t make an effort to humiliate people like many of the judges on other shows do. I like that.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Your review was fun to read. Your Pink Popcorn FOTD actually brought out the complexity of the lippie… I thought it was going to be a plain, sheer pink but it actually looks great on you. I’ll have to grab one if I can!

I’m tempted to buy another tube of Watch Me Simmer but I think I’ll pick up pink popcorn and Reel Sexy instead.

I like Heroine but its far too loud for the office.

Heroine makes me laugh-I keep thinking of “Making Poise Magazine heroine chic” from the movie 13 Going On 30! Thirty and flirty! 😛

I don’t watch all those similar show but I find the The Voice in different countries is actually nice. I have watched quite a few different episodes on YouTube.
Love how Pink Popcorn looks on you.

      Hi Marina,

It’s a pretty good show. I never got sucked into watching American Idol, but this take on a singing competition has been really interesting. I think a lot of it is the judges. They seem to have a good chemistry.

Aww, really? You could try dabbing it on your lips to create a light stain. That would look really pretty too.

      Hi Twyla,

Even though you’re a gloss girl, you just might love Pink Popcorn. One layer looks kinda like a gloss!

I dont watch The Voice but that wig is BANANASSSS! I caught a glimpse of it as I was channel surfing last night and had to backtrack. Insane. Have you seen CeeLo with his cat? LOL!

The lippies are gorgeous — I have Watch Me Simmer from the last collection it was in and I havent used it all that much. Thats why I stopped myself from buying any lipsticks this time around. Seeing your swatches though, kindasortamaybe makes me want Heroine. Its gorgeous — more like a fall lipstick, but so interesting and has such an awesome depth of color!

LOL, yes! His cat is named Purr-fect. He even has a pic of him in the area where he trains his singers!

Heroine is a really beautiful color, but yeah, it may be something you’d have to wait until fall to wear during the day. Maybe get it and use it for date night over the summer? Gotta love a dramatic lip all year long. 🙂

What an awesome name — Purr-Fect, and somehow, I really did picture CeeLo as a cat person!

Im excited for my birfday dinner. Remember the guy who won Top Chef this year? The restaurant he works for opened a place here in Houston and ive put in a request w/ the Hubs for my birfday dinner there. Cannot.wait! Maybe, ill have Heroine by then and rock it!

Wait, what? A purpler version of Syrup?!? That is my ideal color. Right now, I’m rocking Flaunting It and looove that kind of shade. A little lustre would be fab. Must check this out tomorrow on my way home from work.

I love the judges, too – I think they sincerely want to help people become better singers.

And I’m super pale (NC20ish) and I bought Heroine, to replace an old purple lipstick I had. I love purple lipstick, for whatever reason. Hopefully it won’t look awful on me, haha.

OK, I love how all of these look.
Maybe someday you would consider doing a quick reference oF MAC lipstick type descriptions on your MAC reference area? I get so lost on MAC and Channel since there are so many diff types.
PS- was Ceelo doing an ode to James Brown? I’m going to have to look for this OnDemand.
