Vacation Beauty Shoutout: elf Holy Hydration Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm

July 14th, 2022 by Karen 8 Comments

Aloha, friend! If you’re headed to a sunny summer vacation spot and plan on slathering yourself with sunscreen, make a note to pack a jar of this solid balm cleanser by elf. Technically it’s designed to remove makeup, but I’ve found it works like a charm to melt off even the most stubborn waterproof sunscreen, and yes, you can use it all over your body — not just on your face.

It’s basically like the first step of a double cleanse. Before I step into the shower, I rub Holy Hydration Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm on my face, neck, shoulders, arms, legs and feet. Then, when I’m in the shower and my skin’s wet, I work the balm with my hands to help break up the sunscreen even more. After I rinse it off, I do a second cleanse with a shower gel!

Sounds like a lot, I know, but I’ve found this process is much faster and easier than trying to rub off the sunscreen with a small face towel, soap and elbow grease.

Oh, and added bonus, since the balm is solid, it’s carry-on friendly. A 2-ounce jar is $11, and you can find it at drugstores and Ulta.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I love E.L.F. products, thanks for this great tip for sunscreen removal-it can take days to get it off my arms! The E.L.F. pure skin moisturizer is great and I am loving the the Holy Hydration Night cream and the Hydration Booster drops are the best.

That looks a lot like the it cosmetics cleansing balm I’ve been using on my face recently. It was a freebie from Ulta, and I’m in love with it. I haven’t priced it, but I’m sure the elf is much cheaper… I’m going to pick up a jar. Thanks— your recommendations are always on point!

That’s a great price for two ounces! I need to look into that one because I’ve been using the L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil to remove my body sunscreen and it adds $$$ up!
I have an e.l.f. brush (can’t remember the name) that I love for applying liquid or cream foundations, since I’ve never really use a sponge to apply foundation.
Hope you’re having a great time in Hawaii.

Double cleanse is a great idea for sunscreen removal. Speaking of sunscreen—have you tried those dots you put on your arm that turn purple when you need to reapply sunscreen? I wonder if they work well!

Off to watch Ms. Marvel with my teen. Such a cute show! Well, except the jin fights ‘n stuff. But nice to see a smart superhero girl who’s also sweet.

Ooh, I love this tip. I’ve been using Bioderma’s body oil cleanser because it’s HUGE, and oil cleansers definitely do it for sunscreen when body wash and a washcloth don’t. I’ll have to try this one though!

I wish I had this information when we went to Hawaii recently. The reef-safe sunscreen is so stubborn!

This ELF cleansing balm has been a holly grail since I tried it years ago. I used to be a big fan of the Clinique « take the day off », and tried the ELF one in a mini kit I purchased before a long weekend abroad. Since then, I always have one in my bathroom even though I sometimes splurge on a much fancy and expensive one now and then.
I also use it on my body when I am in hurry, especially on my awfully dry legs, but after my body wash as it enables me not adding an extra step on adding a body moisturizer. And as it is fragrance free, no clash to expect with my perfume 😉
Have a lovely stay in Hawaii.

That is such a great idea, especially when you have a balm that is so affordable.
