Vaseline Aloe Fresh Protecting Lotion with SPF 15 and Sunny Tiburon Afternoons

August 11th, 2009 by Karen 22 Comments

Last Sunday it was unpredictably hot and sunny here (finally, summer!), so I took my camera and a bottle of Vaseline Aloe Fresh Protecting Lotion with me to the nearby town of Tiburon, a seaside hamlet and tourist stop about a 20-minute ferry ride north of San Francisco.

On a sunny day (that is, when the fog stays out to sea), Tiburon’s within sight of some lovely landmarks like Angel Island (formerly known as the Ellis Island of the West), Alcatraz (formerly known as Al Capone’s beach house) and the Golden Gate Bridge.

I spent about an hour walking around outside, cruising along the waterfront and pier in a sleeveless sundress, snapping pictures of sailboats and seagulls, and thanks to the Vaseline Aloe Fresh Protecting Lotion SPF 15 ($8) I was wearing, my skin didn’t burn at all. 🙂

One of three new moisturizers in the Aloe Fresh line released earlier this summer, Vaseline Aloe Fresh Protecting lotion’s lightweight and absorbs fast.

Because it absorbs so quickly, it takes me about half as much time to apply as the Aveeno Active Naturals Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 15 I’ve been using since June.

It definitely feels moisturizing (not sticky or greasy), without leaving a film, and I love the fact that it doesn’t smell like sunscreen; instead, I think it smells just like it should (like fresh cut aloe Vera).

On top of everything else, it’s priced right, costing a third less than Aveeno ($8 vs. $12).

Yea! Another pleasant surprise from Vaseline… I’m always glad to find a new budget body lotion with SPF. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

I love Tiburon! Did you stop in for a drink at Sam’s? Great people (and celeb) watching!

It’s so great that body moisturizers have SPF now, I’ll have to try this Vaseline!

      Hi Jill,

Nah, we ended up going to lunch at Rooney’s across the street. Have you ever eaten there? The salmon club sandwich is so good.

I love this lotion! And the one without SPF smells better than the one with. I also love the Cocoa Butter of this same line – it smells amazing. I especially love it after I’ve been out all day in the sun – it feels extra moisturizing. The Cocoa Butter body oil gel is amazing as well and gives your legs/arms some nice sheen if you are going out!

      Hi Beth,

I haven’t tried the Cocoa Butter body oil gel — it sounds fabulous. I bet it’s really pretty with some loose highlighting powder mixed in, oh la la!

I may have to try this. I’m notoriously known for being allergic to Vaseline’s lotions but I’ll have to give it a swipe by testing it out at the store (I cheat, I know).

It could be an alternative to my Aveeno and Coppertone Hypoallergenic, Fragrance-free sun lotion with SPF 45.

      Hi Kate & Zena,

Ha! I swipe a little at the store, too. Shh… I won’t tell if you won’t tell.

You should definitely try the Vaseline Aloe Fresh Moisturizing Body Gel.

Its gorgeous – 100% Aloe Vera, cooling, absorbs really quickly and smells kind of like apples (although maybe thats just what fresh aloe vera smells like – not sure!:))

I’m terrible with body lotions. They maybe get 4 or 5 uses before I get bored and they either get donated to a friend, or thrown out. This one, I’ve almost finished the bottle and will definitely re-purchase.

I heart Tiburon. Taking the ferry to have brunch at Sam’s is awesome. Such a fun place to go for brunch. Love going to Guyamas too.

This sounds like a great product.

      Hi Marisol,

Next time you go hit up Rooney’s. It’s right across the street from Sam’s. It has a pretty patio in the back, and the food is really yummy.

Hope you had a nice Tuesday!

      Hi Kajal Couture,

Yah, give it a try! It costs half as much as the Aveeno one…maybe you’ll like it even more. 🙂

Hi, Karen. it is broad spectrum, like UVA/UVB? I live in a place where it’s very hot in the summer. I hope they come up with spf broad spectrum 30

      Hi Vivian,

Hmm, it doesn’t indicate it on the bottle — the active ingredients: Octinoxate (7.0%), Oxybenzone (3.0%). You’re probably better off with a regular sunscreen. I reserve this one more for work days, when I know I’ll be getting just a little bit of sun (like an hour at lunch and during short breaks).

      Hi Marce,

Yup, I did! There’s little sharks that actually breed in the lagoon in town. They aren’t dangerous, though.

Hey, you got to test it for allergies someway, right? You can’t just put your hand to the bottle and hope the package turns a certain color to alert you if you’re likely to be allergic to it.

Well, I love this Vaseline Aloe Vera Gel and it might just have cured me…for now anyway!

I’ve used the Johnsons Baby Oil Gel with Camomile off and on and I use Philosophy’s Inner Grace one to match my perfume. Other than that, I just bought one in my local supermarket that is Coconut and lime (yum), I’ve got a bottle of Jergens Ultra Hydrating that I’m bored of and I think there’s some Nivea “My Silhouette” slimming gel-cream lurking too.

I’ve got Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse (the non-shimmer one) and some Body Shop Spa Wisdom Monoi Oil too – just in case I want an oil not a lotion/cream.

I so have a problem! LOL
