The New Anastasia Want You to Want Me Holiday Kit Sings Songs of Soft Satin Finishes and Long-Lasting Wear

September 10th, 2012 by Karen 33 Comments

anastasia want you to want me palette

I have an urgent and important question for you, friend!

Are you ready…?

Brace yourself. Here goes: what’s your karaoke song?

LOL!

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t important in the Merriam-Webster sense of the word, but I’m curious.

Me? I have a couple of musical standbys honed by the fires of fifty Filipino family gatherings! Seriously, you can always count on two things at a Filipino party — 1) a redonkulous amount of food and 2) karaoke! 🙂

Myself, I like to warm up with a little Phil Collins…

“She’s an easy lover! She’ll take your heart but you won’t feel it!”

And then really get the crowd going with Cheap Trick…

“I waaaant yoooo to want meeee!”

The later meets the three crucial criteria of a top karaoke song. It’s upbeat, almost everyone knows the words to it (so they can sing along), and it doesn’t require any complex vocal gymnastics, which is good because I reserve that kind of thing for my car or shower.

Next time I hit the mic (hopefully soon — karaoke, anyone?), I’m wearing Anastasia’s new holiday 2012 eye makeup kit, because not only does it pay homage to my go-to karaoke tune, but the colors are just plain pretty!

The $34 limited edition Want You to Want Me kit’s lush velvet case houses enough eye makeup to keep your eyes glowing softly while you rock all night long.

The kit includes…

  • A gift box with a velvet cover, chain detailing and a magnetic closure (so pretty!)
  • An eyeshadow palette with nine powder shades in mostly shimmery brown, beige, taupe and purple colors; the palette pops out of the larger velvet box for easy touch-ups on the road
  • A black liquid eyeliner with a thin brush applicator
  • A clear brow gel
  • A small dual-tipped brush

SO excited about the new, limited edition Anastasia Kisses On My List Volume 2 Hydrafull Gloss Set, $30. I really enjoyed last year’s and hope this one is just as good.

The name is also one of my favorite Hall and Oates songs. 🙂

Feeling all alone without a friend, you know you feel like dying…

Points if you can name the band that sings this song!

That’s the new Anastasia Want You to Want Me Palette ($34), new for holiday 2012.

14 Pink Lips for Valentine’s Day: Which Is Your Favorite One?

February 14th, 2012 by Karen 62 Comments

Pink lips get a lot of love from me 365 days a year, but on Valentine’s Day I usually pay them extra attention.

And that’s because I usually spend more time than I’d care to admit trying to figure out which particular pink to wear out to dinner with El Hub.

What do you think? Which of the following 14 pink lipsticks, balms and glosses do you like best? These are some of the shades that frequently catch my eye.

Yes, I busted a Tabs this morning and tried on every single one…

There’s a pretty wide range represented here, from splurge-worthy brands like Chanel and YSL, to budget-friendlier brands like Soap & Glory and L’Oreal.

Oh, and if your favorite pink lip isn’t listed here, let me know what it is in the comments. Inquiring minds want to know. 🙂

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture in Fuchsia Dore, $32

Soap and Glory A Great Kisser in Chocolate Cherry, about $8

MAC Kissable Lipcolour in Woo Me, $18

MAC Lipsticks from the left in Quick Sizzle, Innocence Beware and Naughty Saute, $14.50 each

Anastasia Kisses On My List Hydrafull Gloss in Sugar Pink on my lips

What a deal! The new $30 Anastasia Kisses On My List, a new limited-edition holiday set with six full-size Hydrafull Glosses, would cost $126 if the six tubes were full price.

Instead, the tubes work out to $5 each.

The set comes with six limited edition Anastasia glosses with a level of pigment somewhere between sheer and medium. The colors, which range from beige to pink to nude, include Barely (a nude beige), Nectar (a pale pink shimmer), Lychee (a sheer pink with golden shimmer), Guava (a pinkish nude with opalescent shimmer), Sugar Pink (a petal pink) and Cameo (a pearl with silver shimmer).

I’m Feeling Neutral About the Anastasia All Eye Want Palette

November 10th, 2011 by Karen 7 Comments

Anastasia All Eye Want Palette (4)

When Urban Decay coaxed thousands of us (maybe millions!) into getting Naked last year, it prompted many of the big makeup lines to follow suit with neutral palettes of their own. And just like that! — neutral was the new black. 🙂

I’m not complaining, of course. I’m always down to play with easy-to-wear colors. Colors like the cocoas, caramels and latte shades in the new limited edition Anastasia All Eye Want Palette ($32, exclusive to Sephora).

Anastasia All Eye Want Palette (3)

The palette, which Anastasia created with weekend getaways (and very likely coffee-based drinks, LOL!) in mind, contains nine neutral shadows, some shimmery and some matte, and small versions of her Clear Brow Gel and Lash Lifting Mascara.

I’ve Got Anastasia Bright Eyes, Big City in My Suburban Sights

November 9th, 2011 by Karen 25 Comments

anastasia bright eyes big city (5)

My inner urban girl, the one who after 10 years living in the surburbs still tells herself that “it’s only temporary,” loves that Anastasia gives a shout-out to city girls with the name of her $39 Bright Eyes, Big City Brow & Eye Collection kit.

anastasia bright eyes big city (3)

The kit, one of four available now from Anastasia for the holidays, comes with a nice array of eye and brow products put together to create natural, wide-eyed looks.

The kit includes…

  • One pan with a trio of matte eye and brow powders
  • Another pan with a trio of baked shimmery eyeshadows
  • A travel-size mascara
  • A full-size Cooling Eye Brightener
  • A full-size Clear Brow Gel
  • A tiny tweezers
  • A mini dual-tipped brow brush
  • And a mini dual-tipped eyehadow brush

Anastasia’s known for bodacious brow products, and they’re my favorite pieces in this kit. With the brow/eye powders, gel, tweezers and mini brow brush, perfect brows are just a minute or two away.

As for the rest of the eye makeup here, well, I feel like it’s just okay. I do dig the glowy effect I get with the shimmery eyeshadows, but it’s accompanied by some fallout. That, and I feel like the mascara, despite the great lash separation it creates, doesn’t deliver the drag queen length and volume I crave.
