It’s Time for a Summer Romance with Clinique Brandied Bronze

April 7th, 2010 by Karen 34 Comments

Unconventional?! Avant-garde? A breakthrough in color palette technology?

Well, not exactly… Yep, we’ve seen colors like these in palettes like this before, but that hasn’t stopped me from falling for Clinique’s new Brandied Bronze Eyeshadow Palette ($25). When I think “classic summer eyeshadow shades,” this bad boy has six of the colors that regularly come to mind.

Clinique Brandied Bronze

A limited-edition summer collection with products for eyes, lips, cheeks and face. Prices range from $14-25.

Brandied Bronze’s beige, bronze, gold, teal, purple and pink are so spot on that if Ryan Reynolds asked me to go on a three month surf vacation with him, I could foreseeably make it through the entire trip with just this palette, a single cream blush, waterproof mascara and a tube of MAC Nymphette. 🙂

I Only Have Eyes for Clinique All About Eyes Serum

April 7th, 2010 by Karen 29 Comments

I believe El Hub has officially resigned to his fate as the partner of a beauty-addicted weirdo. We’re at the stage now where nothing fazes the boy, not even beauty products in the fridge. 🙂

Case in point: I’ve been storing my latest skincare obsession, Clinique All About Eyes Serum ($26), next to the yogurt and cat food (yes, I said cat food)…

El Hub: Babe? Uh…why is there lipgloss in the fridge?
Karen: That’s not lipgloss; it’s Clinique All About Eyes Serum. Don’t touch.
El Hub: So…why is there eye serum in the fridge?
Karen: It feels better on my eyes when it’s cold.
El Hub: Okay… Can I put it with the cold cuts so it’s out of the way?

LOL!

Clinique High Lengths Mascara: Take Me To Your Leader

January 28th, 2010 by Karen 43 Comments

Have you noticed anything weird about mascara brushes lately? It’s like they’re getting all funky cold medina! Last year it was motorized brush heads; before that, spiked medieval flails (Givenchy’s Phenomen’Eyes).

Now even Clinique is throwing their hat into the ring with a different spin on the standard brush design. High Lengths Mascara ($14) flaunts a minimalist, almost alien bow.

Maybe I’ve been watching too much sci-fi lately (a VERY safe bet), but those rows of short, stubby teeth aren’t giving me warm and fuzzy feelings — that’s for sure.

When I touched the brush for the first time (expecting certain doom!), it flexed and bent like Gumby’s yoga master, LOL! I really had no idea how it would perform on human lashes. 🙂

Buck nekkid lashes!

My Movie Night Lip Look Starring Clinique Black Tie Violets

November 14th, 2009 by Karen 21 Comments

clinique-black-violets-lip-look

Things I’m crushing on this weekend…

  • Ryan Reynolds
  • Toe socks (brr… it’s cold in here)
  • The Clinique Black Tie Violets collection!!!

That there at the top is the Black Tie lip combo I wore to the movies last night. 🙂

I went with Defining Liner for Lips in Pomegranate ($14) layered beneath Different Lipstick in Different Grape ($14), and for extra sparkle and shine I added Full Potential Lips Plump and Shine in Bloomberry ($18).

It made the movie easier to bear, LOL!

As far as the colors and finishes of the products I used (to dupe them with other things from your collection), the combo breaks down to…

  • A shimmery reddish blue lip liner
  • A creamy violet lipstick
  • A lipgloss in a shimmery pink

I’m picturing the look with thick black cat eyeliner. Wouldn’t that look hawt?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Did you do anything fun tonight? I just got back from pizza, and now I’m looking for a brainless movie on iTunes. Tabs says “meow.” He wants me to get The Ugly Truth. He loves those romantic comedies…

November 13th, 2009 by Karen 56 Comments

clinique-black-tie-violets-1

‘Twas the night before Saturday, when all through the house
Not a beauty addict was stirring, not even a mouse.

Makeup brushes were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Violet soon would be there.

Behold the real fruits of my Friday night labor! I went all swatch crazy with Clinique’s new Black Tie Violets collection, whee!

Here’s a quick look at seven of the 11 pieces from the collection (a limited edition holiday release).

Let me know if anything pops out at ya. 🙂

A Cult Classic Goes Mainstream: The Clinique Bamboo Pink Collection

June 25th, 2009 by Karen 30 Comments

clinique-bamboo-pink-collection1

What’s up, my fellow makeup lovahs? Have I mentioned that Clinique’s Bamboo Pink is one of my favorite lip colors, ever?

When I heard Clinique was doing an entire release based on it I went nuts!

The color itself is a cool, silvery pink — a cult favorite — and I was stoked to see that a lot of you are just as hyped about the news as I am.

Who could blame us, right? The limited edition summer release for cheeks, eyes and lips (available now) includes a color palette of cool pinks, bronzes and taupes that work together beautifully.

So far, I’ve played with five items from the 11-piece collection.

Colour Surge Eye Shadow Quad in Bamboo Pink, $25

The Bamboo Pink Eye Shadow Quad comes packed with four perfectly coordinated shades of shimmery light pink, shimmery copper, shimmery taupe and shimmery rose-pink.

All apply on the cool side, so I’m guessing cool-beauties will be able to TURN THIS MUTHA OUT.

No doubt, the shades are shimmery, but they aren’t overly frosty, which I think makes them pretty easy to wear. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Cream Shaper for Eyes Duo in Chocolate Lustre/Cocoa Shimmer, $15

Okay, I’ll come clean — at first glance this dual-tipped pencil didn’t give me lusty makeup thoughts. I thought Cream Shaper for Eyes Duo in Chocolate Lustre/Cocoa Shimmer looked kinda ho-hum on the outside, but inside it’s a gem. The pencils are super creamy and glide on without skipping. They’re also water-resistant and don’t smudge for nuthin’.

I like how well both Chocolate Lustre (a shimmery brown) and Cocoa Shimmer (a shimmer taupe) work as eyeshadow bases layered beneath the colors in the Bamboo Pink Quad, yes! Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Clinique After Sun Rescue Balm Is Da Bomb

May 28th, 2009 by Karen 9 Comments

052809-clinique-after-sun-rescue-balm-final

I just love it when products work as advertised. 🙂

My post-Hawaii tan hasn’t shown any signs of peeling, and I think Clinique deserves most of the credit.

I’ve been applying their After Sun Rescue Balm with Aloe ($20) once a day since getting back home on Monday.

The stuff’s not just your run ‘o the mill lotion. It’s designed to soothe and repair skin exposed to the sun, thereby minimizing peeling while moisturizing and cooling at the same time.

Here Comes the Sun — Screen: Clinique Sun SPF 30 Face Cream

May 10th, 2009 by Karen 30 Comments

clinique-sun-face-cream-spf-30

Do you smell that?

It’s the scent of my new sunscreen crush, Clinique Sun SPF 30 Face Cream ($17.50).

Part of Clinique’s new 10-piece Sun Protection line of face and body products, Clinique Sun SPF 30 Face Cream is an oil-free, quick-absorbing sunscreen offering protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

But its scent, or lack thereof, is what sets it apart.

The lightly moisturizing formula doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy or sticky, so I can use it on my face AND my neck. Plus, it dries to an invisible, matte finish — no gray or white cast on my brown skin.

In terms of texture, Clinique’s Sun Face Cream feels thick and rich (a little goes a long way).

My favorite thing about it has to be the scent. Clinique nailed it down. You know how most sunscreens smell so “sunscreeny”? Sun Face Cream doesn’t. I mean it does, but it’s very faint.

Outdoorsy, active girls should love the stuff because it resists sweat and water like a champ. I’ve been applying it before going outside for runs lately, and it doesn’t sting my eyes as sweat trickles down from my forehead.

Unfortunately, it’s Clinique, so it’s not the cheapest sunscreen around…
