MAC to the Glitter Chunks in New Superglass Lipgloss: Supersize Me!

April 27th, 2010 by Karen 36 Comments

A lot of people don’t know this, but the lyrics to Parliament’s famous 1976 single, Give Up the Funk, originally went like this:

Ow, we want the chunk
Give up the chunk
Ow, we need the chunk
We gotta have that chunk [2x]

True story. 🙂

The bodacious bits of chunky glitter in the nine MAC Superglass shades ($18 each) are so big, eye-catching and IN YO FACE that they’re making me break into song (like so many things do!).

Why don’t you stick around?

I expected glitter chunks this big to make these glosses feel gritty, but the formula slides onto my lips. They’re sticky, though, despite how gracefully they glide. As a matter of fact, I think they may be a little stickier than MAC Lipglasses are, for what it’s worth.

Wimpy Lashes, Meet MAC Opulash Mascara

April 26th, 2010 by Karen 68 Comments

I just love thickening mascaras that plump threadbare lashes, boo. 🙂

Say “hi” to MAC’s Opulash Mascara in Bad, Bad, Black ($14). It’s exclusive to Nordstrom stores for now, but it’ll be rolling out to other MAC counters soon.

With Opulash, MAC is venturing into totally tubular Clinique Lash Power/DiorShow territory. I’m sure you remember DiorShow, but how about Clinique Lash Power? With its “tubes” of mascara that surround each lash? Opulash also coats with tubes of mascara, and despite how long lasting it is, it still washes right off with nothing but warm water; no extra eye makeup remover required.

To remove it, I wet a cotton pad with warm water, hold it against an eye for a few seconds, and then gently slide down the length of the lash. It takes about three swipes to do a good job, but it’s a lot easier than having to bust out another remover.

The way it’s removed is pretty cool, but by far I think Opulash’s strongest point is how well it plumps up the volume from root to tip — and not just near the base (I’m talking to you, Givenchy Phenom Eyes!).

MAC Unsung Heroes: Lychee Luxe Lipglass

April 12th, 2010 by Karen 64 Comments

Question for my coral lovin’ babes: Do you have a favorite coral lipgloss? Hands down, mine’s got to be MAC Lipglass in Lychee Luxe ($14). It’s a shimmery coral from MAC’s permanent line, and if I had to guess I’d bet I’ve gone through a double-digit number of tubes, yikes!

Wish I could say I stumbled upon Lychee Luxe on my own, but I actually heard about it from my mom. She gave me the heads-up about 10 years ago, which is funny to me because she’s never really been into makeup.

Proof positive that Lychee Luxe holds *great* magical powers. 🙂

One day she swung by a MAC counter looking for a gloss with just the right amount of color for her fabulous 50-ish self. She left with her first tube of Lychee Luxe, and a familial makeup obsession was born.

Have You Tried Any of These MAC Technakohl Liners?

April 8th, 2010 by Karen 53 Comments

I’ll just come out and say it: I love the MAC Technakohl liners ($14.50).

They glide like skates on my waterline and stay put all day long. I’ve been using two of them pretty much nonstop for a month, Graphblack and Brownborder, so when I stopped by a MAC Pro Store last week I decided to grab a few more: Smoothblue (a shimmery ocean blue), Earthline (a shimmery grayish brown) and Uniform (a khaki green with golden pearl).

MAC’s Calling, and They Want You to Just Add Colour

April 5th, 2010 by Karen 71 Comments

*Ring-a-ling-ling*

Get the phone, honey child, because MAC’s a-calling, and they want you to Just Add Colour. 🙂

If I ever had any willpower when it came to bright sticks o’ gloss, MAC’s Just Add Colour Lipglass ($14) totally nuked it. Hello! It happens to be almost the exact same shade of fuchsia as my iPhone case. A coincidence? Perhaps, but when the worlds of makeup and technology collide, I’m so there.

Limited edition Just Add Colour shimmers by herself as the lone Lipglass in the approaching Prep For Colour collection (arrives Thursday).

Just Add Colour Lipglass

Isn’t she sassy and fresh? Perfect for spring/summer. The color begins with a bold, highly pigmented POP, but it wears down over the day into a surprisingly natural dark pink.

MAC Cosmetics Partners with Makeup and Beauty Blog

April 1st, 2010 by Karen 208 Comments

Ladies, if you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you probably know about my love for MAC Cosmetics. I’ve been a fan of theirs for years (my very first post was Barbie Loves MAC!).

And being such a devoted fan, I’ve been dying to tell you about a special project I’ve been working on FOREVER, but because of legal hoopla and various other contractual shenanigans I haven’t been been able to announce anything until now.

Starting this month, I’ll be splitting my time between this blog and a brand new site called MAC-Up and Beauty Blog.

In a nutshell, it’s going to be a MAC beauty blog with a quirky MBB spin. I’ll be giving you advance looks and swatches of new MAC collections, backstage access to MAC events and the latest tips and tricks from our favorite MAC makeup artists.

It also means I’ll be traveling a little bit more, but things will remain business as usual here on the OG MBB, where I’ll still post plenty of non-MAC beauty reviews, news and more than enough Tabs to last a lifetime. 🙂

MAC-Up and Beauty Blog won’t go live until mid-month, but MAC wants to get this party started, so they’re sponsoring a HUGE giveaway today on the blog.

The first 10,000 readers who friend the new MAC-Up and Beauty Blog Facebook page will receive a free tube of MAC Nymphette. This shimmery, peachy pink gloss is my all-time fave for smokey eyes.

If you’re interested, click here to sign up.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

The MAC Pro Longwear Lipstain Markers: Answers to Your Questions

March 29th, 2010 by Karen 20 Comments

Hello, young lady. How was the rest of your Monday? Downright spectacular, I hope. 🙂

Mine was aw-ite, I guess, with the exception of the weather. The rain is back in a big way this week, and dark, scary rain clouds are parked overhead. One of them HAS to have a silver lining, though, and I’m determined to find it. I thought it might be somewhere hiding among the coral lippies of MAC’s Pro Longwear Lipstain line from the MAC Art Supplies collection, so today I took a close look.

We talked about ’em last week, but I still had a couple more shades to show you — Tomorrow’s Coral (a reddish coral) and Full of Flare (an orangey coral).

From left: Tomorrow’s Coral, Full of Flare

Tomorrow’s Coral

Full of Flare

The last two turned out to be my favorites of the line! Before these, I felt most of the red and brown Lipstains looked too much alike, but these stand out. I’m even drooling over the prospects of layering them beneath a reddish coral gloss like MAC Liglass in Lychee Luxe. I get the feeling that’s gonna be the hawtness!

Today I also wanted to follow up and address some of your questions from the first Longwear post. Here’s one from reader Rae:

Aside from being gorgeous, how do these wear? — Rae

Hi Rae,

I get about two hours of rich color intensity before the color starts fading. Even after it fades, my lips still remain stained.

One day last week I’d put on A Classic (a dark red) at five in the afternoon. Three hours later, after a workout, the color was still holding strong, even after I’d chugged a ton of water from my water bottle.

After dinner and a shower, my lips still had color when the clock struck 9:30, and when I finally hit the haaay at 11, there was still some red hanging around.

All in all, that’s about six hours of pretty decent color.

The next question’s from reader Makeupmorsels who asked…
