Urban Decay Lo-Fi Lip Mousse Is Hella High-Five Worthy

July 19th, 2018 by Karen 11 Comments

Nope, not a blush. Just coolness ? in a pan.

Ya know, I’ve been reviewing makeup and waxing philosophic about makeup and photographing makeup (and cats!) for more than a decade now (started in 2007, yo!), and when you write about any topic for that long, you really, REALLY gotta love it (and I do!); otherwise, you risk falling into a fugue state akin to Breaking Bad.

But here’s the deal: although I still relish discovering new coral lipsticks and love the thrill of finding a fab new cream blush, sometimes it feels like every “new” highlighter/palette/liquid lipstick/etc. that crosses my desk is something we’ve all seen before…except with a different cheeky name and outfit.

These days, it takes something seriously funky or outrageous to grab my attention and make me wanna shoop, shoop-eh-doop, if you know what I mean, so when Urban Decay’s new Lo-Fi Lip Mousse showed up, I was like, “I cannot bear to hot tub time machine back to 2012 right now. Let’s just eat some brownies, fire up season four of Sex and the City and take a cat nap, but HOLD ON, WAIT A MINUTE, LET ME PUT SOME BOOTY IN IT — you’re telling me this isn’t a blush?? It’s a matte lipstick instead!? Alright, Urban Decay, tell me more.”

Urban Decay Lo-Fi Lip Mousse ($22 each)

These are mousse matte lipsticks in a compact, and they’re wacky in the best possible way (as opposed to being strange for the sake of being weird). They actually work really well.

The color-coordinated boxes are a nice touch!

Urban Decay must’ve poached some NASA rocket scientists to formulate these because not only do they look smooth, avoid my lip lines and feel feather light, they couldn’t be a lot easier to apply.

“Ready for modern matte lip color that’s as chill as an afternoon record-shopping sesh? Whipped to airy perfection, Lo-Fi Lip Mousse is a weightless, buildable, waterproof lip color. Lo-Fi provides high-impact color with a velvety soft finish that feels like you’re wearing nothing. The plush matte texture is very of-the-moment, and the application is effortless.

We’re dropping a megamix of eight all-new shades ranging from cashmere-soft baby pink to plum purple and attention-grabbing bright orange. We’re really falling for Amplify, a truly intense red with autumnal vibes that flatters virtually every skin tone.

Loaded with pigment, Lo-Fi’s budge-proof, buildable formula lets you control the color and keep it where you want—from sheer to full coverage. Feeling low-key? Pat on the mousse with your fingertips for that ‘barely there’ effect. Wanna go bold? Create definition with the pop-out applicator. How about soft and sexy? Apply it intensely at the center of the lip, fading it out toward the edges like a blooming flower. Any way you choose to apply, Lo-Fi leaves lips soft, smooth and stained with color.

This shimmering purple compact slides into a handbag pocket, but still fits in your slimmest clutch for after hours.”

What’s inside

I think they’re much easier to use than your typical tube of matte lipstick or a liquid matte that comes in a wand. I just use my finger to dab them on like a lip balm, then pat-pat-pat for fresh, easy, flattering lips.

Very Chanel Velvet-eque!

The formula, which isn’t drying at all and hangs on for about three hours, is unflavored and unscented, too, in case you were wondering about that (because, Chelsea, I knew you were gonna ask!).

Fist bump, UD. This is hella cool.

❤️❤️❤️❤️ 4 out of 5 hearts.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Frequency is gorgeous! These are cool! I’d have to make sure to keep them safe from dog and cat fur LOL.

We took all three animals to the vet today. Absolute madness.

Did you catch your shout-out at the end?

      Are the fur-kids OK?

Omg I can’t believe I missed it, LMAO! I’m famous!

Well it was entertaining transporting three animals and two adults in a VW Golf! Cats are overall healthy, all three critters need to lose weight, Jiji and Hettie had to get some shots. Mina hissed for the first time ?

Hettie has had a few seizures, so we were a little worried. We have to keep an eye out for how frequently they happen (it’s only been a couple times in the 15 months we’ve had her), and if it gets worse. They’re pretty minor right now, so no medication, but something to keep an eye on. It’s consistent with epilepsy as opposed to a tumor (thank goodness). But the vets absolutely loved her and how good of a girl she was, as well as the kitties.

Hettie was found as a stray who was already spayed, so Zack got sad that maybe someone dumped her because of her seizures. But she is so so loved and she was so worried about her kitty siblings when the vets were examining them. Love my furkids!

Karen, I’m so intrigued by these.

Is the pan big enough that you could apply it directly by kissing your lips to the surface, do you think?

What do you use to apply it on your lips? A synthetic lip brush? Beautiful pictures 🙂

I was tuned out when I saw the pan because I hate using a lip brush, but I definitely perked up when you said you can use your finger! Amplify is my fave of the bunch, color wise. They all look really nice and smooth, though!

Amplify Boom Echo!! I’m interested. Glad they’re not drying, not flavored and not scented. Are they out already?

I can’t wait to try these. I’ve got to say, I’m so impressed with Urban Decay. Every time I think their product line can’t improve, it does.

I’ve got to try these! I’m all about a matte, blurred out lip for summer so these sound perfect. Do you find that they stain?

Ooh la la! I definitely need to check these out… I’m always on the lookout for non-drying mattes!
