Whenever I hop on the Volaire site (they’re a niche hair line; Kristin Davis is their spokesperson), I feel like I’ll be buying products at 2 in the morning in an insomnia- and infomercial-fueled frenzy because there’s something enticingly late night “As Seen on TV” about it…
This particular styling spray is part of a multi-step system for volume, but you can also use it as a standalone product, which is how I tested it.
Volaire Air Magic Texturizing Spray ($34, 10.1-oz. bottle)
Smells A LOT like Eternity for Men and, thus, reminds me of making out with sweaty, clumsy dudes in college.
Oh, lord… I was a baby back then. What the heck did I know?!
Volaire Air Magic Texturizing Spray adds texture and lifts everything (roots, mid-shaft, ends, everything!) to give your hair more volume, and it does so without turning your style into an immobile ’80s hair helmet.
“Add instant lift, texture and effortless volume, and extend the life of your hair style with this multi-functional styling spray. Powered by exclusive AIRWEIGHT TECHNOLOGY™, Air Magic Texturizing Spray is part texturizing spray, part sheer hold spray with oil-absorbing properties to refresh, and extend the life of your full body style. Sulfate-Free. Paraben-free. Color-safe. Vegan.”
Not to say that you can still run your fingers through your mane when you use it, because my strands feel stiff. There’s definitely the sense that this is locking sh*t into place and leaving a layer of “stuff” sitting on my hair, and when I hop into the shower at night, it’s hard to wash out… I gotta shampoo twice.
The volume is there for me, though, and it’s massive. I scrunch the ends every few hours to revive it and make the most of that big-haired glory.

My texturizing spray gold standard these days is Oribe Gold Lust (hefty volume and texture, no white cast, smells good, soft hold, easy to wash out, shiny finish… So many great things.), and while Volaire BRINGS IT with the volume, I think Oribe’s is better overall. And it doesn’t make my hair feel as stiff, to boot, even though it’s crazy $$$.
❤️❤️ 2 out of 5 hearts.
Did you know? Here’s a time-saving hair hack I use all the time: I style my hair before I go to sleep whenever I know I won’t have a lot of time to get ready the next morning. 😉 Basically, the night before, after blow drying and styling my hair with a curling iron for loose waves, I’ll apply texturizing spray to the roots and mid-shaft (for lift), and then I’ll put it in a loose bun and secure the bun with a scrunchi. Then, in the morning, I take the bun out, run my fingers through my strands, and I’m good to go.

Karen, how much longer before we learn what you’ve been wearing on your lips? lol, I’m so excited to find out!
Efrain says
When I started making out with guys most of the times they smelt like Axe so I think Eternity for men was a better option, lol.
Since having curly hair, there’s no big deal about volume, just start to brush my hair and it’s done, but maybe if I’m trying an afro it’d be a good option. But I just think I going to get that Donna Summer look in the 70s instead of an afro.
Karen says
LOL, I guess every generation has a specific scent! I’m glad I got to miss the Axe trend.
I think a big Donna Summer ‘do can look amazing if you’re working it. 🙂
How are your German lessons going? Do you think you know enough to get around? I’m sure you’ll pick things up fast once you get there.
Efrain says
My hair isn’t long enough for that style but I’m celebrating I was able to get some decent boxer braids yesterday.
I’m taking German classes four days a week, and I’ve already learned to talk in past tense so I consider it a victory. My main goal is to be independent enough when I arrive, but I’m sure the first month I’ll ask everybody to talk slower.
Janet Shepherd says
Oh man, I used to love Eternity for Men on guys lol.
One of these days I’m going to have to try that Oribe texturizing spray – it sounds so amazing!
Ok, off topic here but I love your pink t shirt in this photo! It’s my favorite colour ☺️

I think I will skip the spray, but give the overnight bun trick a go. Anything that saves time in the mornings is very welcome.

I was always more of an Escape fan. 🙂 You know I’m always down for some volume but, of course, I’m more interested in the crazy expensive Oribe now that you compared. HAHA! I do love the “results may vary” statement, though. Translation: your hair will not look like this if you don’t blow dry it and use a curling iron. 😉
