I was looking through some old pictures at my parents’ house on Easter Sunday and ooooh wee! — the upper lip-mustache-and-eyebrow sitch in some of my school pics was out of control.
The funny thing is I remember furry face being more socially accepted than it is today. As a teenager, I didn’t pluck or wax, and neither did any of my girlfriends. We weren’t complete werewolves, but we still managed to get dates, fur and all.
By a few years after high school, the hair thing had gone out of style, and women were doing all sorts of things to get smooth and hair-free.
I once had a creative roommate who’d bleach her upper lip hair (making it less obvious), and then cut the bleached hairs away with a scissors — this, to avoid the pain of waxing.

To smooth my ‘stache, I’ll usually wax my upper lip with either Sally Hansen’s Hair Remover Wax Strip Kit ($6) or Parisa Warm Wax ($12); to trim my brows, I’ll pluck with a Tweezerman, and then trim off any wayward hairs with a scissors.
It seems like most women go for plucking, waxing or threading…
How do you remove excess facial hair?

This afternoon I had my way with 11 of the 23 pieces from MAC’s upcoming A Rose Romance collection (arrives April 23), and judging from these plums and pinks, the collection looks hella cool — as in tones. 🙂
Most of these shades draw from the cooler end of the color spectrum. With my coloring that means I may have to inject some warmer colors into the mix to pull them off, but pale beauties who look good in cooler colors could easily rock these shades in a heartbeat.

Sometimes I like to take stock of the random things I dig…

Like, lately I’ve been hooked on wedding magazines, even though my wedding was three years ago.

And when I haven’t been pouring over cake designs and bridal flower trends (mini-cakes and lotus pods are “in”), I’ve also been into trying different stress relief teas (highly recommend Get Relaxed red tea by The Republic of Tea).

Speaking of stress relief, I’ve found that chewing gum helps me to relax and have been chewing vast quantities of Orbit Gum while reading about how to grow Heirloom tomatoes…

And on the makeup front, I’m loving Benefit’s new Velvet Eyeshadows ($18).

The more closely I look at Clarins, the more fascinated I become. Did you know their skin care line includes products designed to keep “the girls” firm?
The products are called Bust Beauty, and Clarins claims that both Bust Beauty Extra-Lift Gel ($58) and Bust Beauty Firming Lotion ($54) will “firm, tone and strengthen the delicate skin of the bust and decollete.”
I know I’ve mentioned that pesky white hair in my left eyebrow… Well, I’ve noticed other things ch-ch-ch-changing, too — some of them succumbing to GRAVITY.
Honestly, it was like one day I looked in the mirror and BAM! — there they were, kinda sad and droopy like a clown in a ’70s velvet painting, LOL!
I think I’m good about taking care of my breasts in other ways (PSA: please do your monthly breast self-exams, ladies!), but taking steps to keep them perky? — not so much.
What do you think about skin care products for your bust?
Right now I just use my regular body lotion (Johnson’s 24-Hour), but I’d probably roll my pennies for a dedicated beauty product proven to lift and firm.

After seeing Laura Mercier’s Mediterranean Sea Eye Mosaic eyeshadow palette ($35) in the Daily Beauty picture today, some of you gals suggested I try her in my face of the day.
That was all the prodding I needed… Here she is in all her shimmery turquoise, royal blue and golden bronze glory!

For the eyes in this look, I added MAC Rollickin’ Paint Pot ($16.50; limited edition, but a good dupe would be Estee Lauder’s Sea Mist for $17.50), Chanel Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Delta ($32), Cargo Plant Love Eyeliner in Midnight Blue ($16) and MAC Mascara X in Black X ($12.50).
The Mediterranean Sea Eye Mosaic quad is probably my favorite eyeshadow palette so far this summer. The shadows virtually melt into the skin, pack intense color and blend with ease.
Don’t these shades look bangin’?

If the makeup gods forced me to choose between this quad or coffee for a week, I’d give up the java — OUCH! I’d be totally cranky, but at least my eyes would look smokin’ hot. 🙂
