The Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting EyeShadow 5-Color Palette in Infamous Sky

If I had a black-tie beachside gala to go to — assuming that there is such a thing — I’d be all about the browns and blues in this eyeshadow palette.

I want to go to there…ideally with Christopher Meloni (I’m sure El Hub would be cool with that). I like the idea of wearing shimmery sandy browns with a hint of sky blue as I snack on fancy scallop-kabobs washed down with bubbly. 🙂

Yup, Estee Lauder’s new Infamous Sky Palette ($50) suits that dream nicely…

Infamous Sky is one of the new Pure Color Envy Sculpting EyeShadow 5-Colors, a new line of creamy, plush powder eyeshadow palettes that partner wearable neutrals with richer pops of color, and they’re available now at Estee Lauder counters and also online.

Dewy Wear Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Cheek Glow? Yes, We Dew!

May 14th, 2014 by Karen 10 Comments

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Cheek Glow
The new Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Cheek Glow

How smooth is Estee Lauder’s new Bronze Goddess Cheek Glow ($28), my favorite piece from this summer’s annual Bronze Goddess collection?

Well, it’s smoother than an iced Frappuccino on a 92-degree day.

Ah… I sure could go for one of those right now.

Resist Red Lipstick Mediocrity With Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Defiant Coral

May 9th, 2014 by Karen 12 Comments

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Defiant Coral
Wearing Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Defiant Coral ($30) on my lips

I love the name of this Estee Lauder Lipstick — Defiant Coral.

Like it hangs out with a bunch of ruffians in front a 7-11 past curfew or, I dunno, stands up in the middle of a boring staff meeting and yells, “KISS THIS!” to the boss on its way out the door.

LOL! Oh, Defiant Coral, you rebel, you. 🙂

Pure Color Envy Sculpting Lipstick in Defiant Coral, $30

Defiant Coral is one of the new Sculpting Lipsticks in Estee Lauder’s permanent line, which are called “sculpting” because the multi-faceted pigments in each of the 21 high-intensity statement shades is supposed to make lips look more defined, shaped and curved.

  • Full coverage with 6-hour wear time
  • Time-release moisture complex helps capture and seal in moisture
  • Lips feel continuously moisturized throughout the day

They sound pretty expensive for Estee Lauder at $30 a pop, but they remind me of Guerlain’s pricier $51 Le Rouge Gs in terms of how they feel, look and perform.

I mean, I don’t think the packaging is as sexy as the silver bulleted Rouge Gs — although the navy and gold is elegant in its own way — but Defiant Coral’s smooth creaminess, rich hydration, opaque coverage and 5-6 hour wear time is like something out of the Rouge G line.

I’m filing Estee Lauder Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Lust under “Shades I’m Inclined To Recommend To My Mom But Probably Won’t Because I Can’t Handle Hearing Her Say the Word, ‘Lust’.”

Ha! It’s true though. 🙂

Over-Blending and the Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette

May 6th, 2014 by Karen 13 Comments

Estee lauder Bronze Goddess The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette
For real, though

Over-blending…

The struggle is real!

I’m so not kidding either. If someone hands me a fluffy brush like the MAC 217, I will swipe, buff and swirl until the cows come home.

With some eye looks, it works in my favor, like for blown-out super blended smokey eyes with subtle gradients where all of the shadows smoothly transition into each other.

In looks like that, you almost can’t blend enough, ya know?

But then there are those other times… Those times when over-blending isn’t so cool, and while you think you’re doin’ your thang, and blending those subtle transitions between the colors, the eyeshadows all merge together into a muddy mess.

It happens a lot sometimes with certain palettes and eyeshadows.

It happened to me recently with Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess the Nudes Eyeshadow Palette, a $60 limited edition summer palette available now with the Bronze Goddess collection at Estee Lauder counters.

Elegant tortoiseshell packaging…

Bedecked in tortoiseshell attire, it houses five nude matte eyeshadows in bone, beige, tan, brown and dark brown; and three metallics in white gold, bronze and plum.

First things first — these shades all being together in the same palette makes total sense to me, but figuring out the best way to work with the palette does not.

That’s because the nude mattes are all pretty close together in terms of color. There isn’t a ton of variation among the shades (lots o’ brown), and they’re kind of semi-sheer, so, like, when I pop them on my lids and start moving my brush around, they merge together into a blend of brown.

Same thing with the metallics… They appear quite dark in swatches but apply semi-sheer on the lids.

And, they also blend together a little too freely.

It’s not a big deal if I’m just going to be wearing one or two of these colors, but anything more than that can look muddy.

It’s a personal favorite of the Easter Tabby’s, available now as part of the Bronze Goddess summer collection at Estee Lauder counters and esteelauder.com.

Tabs has great taste. I can’t wait to take this one out for a spin. 🙂
